Conor McGregor taunts Floyd Mayweather on three-year fight anniversary as UFC legend claims he ‘carried’ boxer

CONOR McGREGOR taunted Floyd Mayweather on their three-year fight anniversary after claiming he “carried” the boxer in the bout.
McGregor lost his boxing debut in ten rounds against Mayweather, who would go on to retire a perfect 50-0.

    3

Conor McGregor taunted Floyd Mayweather on their three-year fight anniversary
The Irishman started well, winning some of the opening rounds, before his legendary opponent upped the pace and controlled the action.
Many claimed Mayweather surrendered the early session to tire McGregor.
But the former UFC champion flipped the narrative and goaded it was him who helped Mayweather along the way.
He wrote online: “3 years ago today I carried Floyd for his final boxing match.

“Wow time flies when you’re stacking cheddar. Happy retirement champ.”
Despite Mayweather not fighting professionally since, McGregor has been campaigning for a rematch.

Before his UFC comeback in January, which he won against Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds, he was adamant about boxing the 43-year-old again.
McGregor told ESPN: “I know I beat Floyd, I’d beat Floyd if we rematched, when we rematch.

“He’s not gonna do a mixed martial arts bout like he said. It was supposed to be me boxing, and then we’ll do a mixed martial arts bout.
“That was what was said. And it came out of his mouth as well, and it was not written, but it was a verbal agreement.
“And obviously, that’s not gonna happen. I’m not going to push him on that, either.
“But I would like to box him. I think that would be a good rematch.”

But McGregor has not fought since the new year and even retired in June, having grown frustrated during coronavirus lockdown having been unable to compete.
Following his announcement, Mayweather was on hand to offer the Irish southpaw a rematch, should he have a change in heart.
He said: “If I’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time.
“Now you’re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again.”
Mayweather last year announced he was “coming out of retirement in 2020” to work with UFC boss Dana White.
White revealed the American plans to box again, but ruled out a lucrative second fight with McGregor.

Kell Brook offered £1.1m to fight P4P star Terence Crawford for world title in November

KELL BROOK has been offered £1.1milllion to challenge WBO welterweight Terence Crawford in November.
Unbeaten Crawford, 32, has been searching for an opponent having not fought since beating Egidijus Kavaliauskas last December.

Promoter Bob Arum was negotiating with 41-year-old legend Manny Pacquiao, but fears that will have to wait until fans can be allowed back into venues.
Instead, according to The Athletic, Brook has now officially been handed the chance to face Crawford.
Josesito Lopez was also approached but he is set to fight Maurice Hooker on the Errol Spence Jr-Danny Garcia undercard in November.
Brook, who has not boxed at 147lb since losing to Spence in 2017, has been campaigning to fight Crawford.

The 34-year-old’s rival Khan last year snubbed a grudge match to instead face the welterweight champion in a £4m payday which he lost in round five.

Crawford had been vocal about not fighting amid the coronavirus pandemic where fight purses have taken a hit following the loss of ticket sales.
But Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed talks are underway between himself and Top Rank to finalise the world title fight.
Hearn Hearn told iFL TV: “I had a couple of conversations with Bob and [Top Rank VP of operations] Carl Moretti yesterday.

“And I feel that’s a big fight for UK TV, so we’re trying to help out and get that over the line.

Anthony Joshua eyes Barcelona transfer to replace Lionel Messi as he shows off football skills in Instagram clip

BARCELONA have found their ready-made replacement should Lionel Messi leave – in the shape of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
The Argentine great, 33, wants to quit his childhood club after almost 20 years following a major fallout with the board.

    4

But while speculation around his next club continues, boxing champ Joshua put himself in the shop window with some silky skills.
The Watford star, still in his prime at 30, took to his Instagram story to show off his tasty tekkers as he teased a dramatic career change.
AJ did a series of keepy-uppies and even pulled out a nonchalant around-the-world as he enjoyed a kickabout in the gym after another gruelling session.
He captioned the video: “@fcbarcelona If Messi goes I’m ready! Boxing ain’t getting any easier.”

But the next video he posted will not give Marc-Andre ter Stegen any reason to worry.
Joshua shared a clip from A League Of Their Own as he goes in goal to face a Freddie Flintoff penalty.
And the former England cricket captain stuck it straight through the 6ft 7ins giant’s legs.
AJ added: “Just don’t stick me in goal!”

The WBA, IBF and WBO king is preparing to face Kubrat Pulev in their rearranged heavyweight showdown, expected to take place in December.
But for Messi, his next move remains far from orthodox.
He faxed the Barcelona board to inform them he wants to quit after growing furious with their treatment of him and, most recently, Luis Suarez.
Messi, whose deal runs out in 2021, believes a clause in his contract means he can leave for free this summer.
However, Barcelona reckon that offer expired back in June.
Manchester City are the 5/2 favourites to land the Argentine if he does leave, reuniting with Pep Guardiola.

Jorge Messi – the great man’s dad – has reportedly even landed in England to discuss terms over a sensational Etihad switch.
But as revealed by SunSport, Manchester City will go all out to sign Messi  — as long as he is committed to joining them.
City have been burned twice before in their pursuit of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner and do not want to be embarrassed again.

Dillian Whyte has made a career of ‘slagging off’ Fury, Joshua and Chisora so let them enjoy Povetkin KO, blasts Warren

DILLIAN WHYTE and his team need to stop crying about their Twitter trolls after he failed as British boxing’s boogieman.
The 32-year-old lost his WBC mandatory title shot on Saturday night after Alexander Povetkin bounced up after two knockdowns to detonate a magnificent uppercut on Whyte’s chin.

    2

A few rival heavyweights and thousands of online boxing fans seem to take pleasure in Whyte’s shock demise – including ringside commentator and long-time rival Anthony Joshua.
And trainer Dave Coldwell took to social media to launch a dramatic defence of his man.
But promoter Frank Warren has moved to remind Coldwell and Whyte of his previous.
Tyson Fury’s matchmaker told SunSport: “I saw Dave Coldwell’s little speech and it made me chuckle because Dillian has enjoyed having a go at everyone else.

“He’s always calling Tyson Fury – who went to Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder’s backyards as a huge underdog – a coward.
“He has made some serious slanderous accusations about Anthony Joshua being a drug cheat, including posting a video of the Verve song ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr.
“He’s talked about Ruiz Jr having his hardest fight against diabetes, when his hardest fight was at short notice against AJ because Dillian didn’t have the bottle to take it himself.
“And he has constantly called Derek Chisora a donkey despite him not kicking off a fuss when he was robbed in their first fight.

“If these fighters and fans have enjoyed Dillian’s defeat then it is only because he has made a career out of slagging others off.
“To put it very simply, what goes around, comes around.”
A part of Coldwell’s post read: “Look at the recent record of @dillianwhyte – opposition he CHOSE to fight knowing he’s in line for a crack at the World Title.
“Who has the bigger b****… him or the trolls?
“Who deserves more respect, win or lose.. him or the warriors of social media? Opinions are always welcome. Trolls, as always, can go get f***ed.”
But Team Whyte – including Coldwell – ordered in garish tracksuits two days before the fight in an effort to embarrass Team Povetkin, after their checkered choice of attire when they landed in the UK went viral.
And Warren wonders if they had been more concerned with their tactics, instead of trying to troll a 40-year-old ex-Olympic and world champion, whether they would still have been carrying their man out of the ring.
Warren, who was blocked by Whyte on Twitter today, said: “What was that tracksuit thing even all about, didn’t they have bigger things to worry about?

Dillian Whyte ‘hounding Eddie Hearn every day’ for Alexander Povetkin rematch which could take place in Russia

DILLIAN WHYTE has revealed he has been pestering Eddie Hearn about a rematch to face Alexander Povetkin following his shock defeat.
The Body Snatcher suffered a huge blow in his quest to fight for a world title after he was knocked out by the Russian at Fight Camp on Saturday.

    2

But the 32-year-old – who has been embroiled in a war of words with promoter Frank Warren – intends to enforce an immediate rematch against the former WBA heavyweight champion.
Whyte looked on course for a routine victory after he floored the veteran boxer twice in the fourth round, only to be blown away by an uppercut a round later.
Despite a second professional loss, Whyte has insisted he has “never been more excited” for a fight as he looks ahead to their rematch.
He told Sky Sports: “I’m good and secondly I just want to say thanks to everyone, all the fans and all the support. It’s been amazing.

“I’ve never been this excited for a fight before in my life. I was excited for the first fight. Now, it’s like turning pro all over again. I’m buzzing.
“I want to go to training now. I’m forcing myself to take the two weeks’ rest. It’s all good. I learn quick. I just can’t wait to get back in there. I want to go now.
“I have been hounding Eddie every day to hear what they are saying about this rematch.”
    DILL ME IN
Before adding: “There’s certain moments in your career that does something to you. The loss to Anthony Joshua done something to me. This time, this has done something else to me again.

“It’s crazy, I feel young and youthful. I feel good. It’s [Povetkin rematch] probably going to be the end of November, early December, so let’s see.”
A rematch could take place in Povetkin’s native Russia, after the WBC Diamond champ’s team teased a fight in Eastern Europe.
In quotes obtained by RT, Povetkin’s manager Andrey Ryabinksiy said: “I don’t see such a big difference boxing here or in the UK.

Dillian Whyte labels Frank Warren a ‘f***ing fish eyes snake’ and blocks him on Twitter in bizarre row after Povetkin KO

DILLIAN WHYTE blocked Frank Warren on Twitter after calling him a “f***ing fish eyes snake”.
The promoter called for Whyte to face the winner of Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce if he wins his rematch against Alexander Povetkin.

    2

Dillian Whyte did not approve of Frank Warren’s comments
Whyte’s hopes of a shot at the world title were shattered when he lost to Povetkin.
The Body Snatcher, 32, is in line to rematch the Russian, 40, in November to try and salvage his shot at the WBC belt.
In a clip posted by BT Sport, Warren called for Whyte to face Dubois or Joyce.
The 68-year-old said: “What I saw on Saturday is exactly how I expected it to end with Daniel.

“That’s why I wanted the fight. If I thought he was going to get beat, I wouldn’t be screaming for the fight, would I? I fancy him to beat him.
“According to what’s being said, he’s got this rematch. Let’s hope he can come through and beat Povetkin if they do the rematch.
“Then he’s got to wait a year. Instead of sitting on his backside waiting for a year, make the fight.
“Make the fight with the winner of Daniel and Joe on October 24.”

Tyson Fury mocked Anthony Joshua with a meme of him taking his rival to school
And ahead of their potential undisputed title decider, Fury taunted his rival by indirectly telling Joshua he has superior skills.
He captioned the hilarious post: “Happy Wednesday.”
In the picture, a mocked up image of AJ asks while holding the far bigger Gypsy King’s hand: “Where are you taking me?”
Fury responds: “To school, you bum.”

The social media jibe garnered mixed reaction from opposing fans, who are divided on who will emerge victorious.

The Battle of Britain had come under threat after the WBC mandated the winner between Fury and Deontay Wilder, 34, – signed for this year – to face Dillian Whyte.
But Whyte’s hopes of finally challenging for the heavyweight crown went up in smoke after he was knocked out by 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin.
Whyte, 32, has the chance to enact revenge against Povetkin in a rematch.

And Fury has told Joshua to “stop running away” now his mandatory duties have momentarily been erased.
