Kell Brook in line to face pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford if WBO champ fails to land Manny Pacquiao fight

KELL BROOK could be in line for a sensational world title shot against pound-for-pound king Terence Crawford.

The Sheffield boxer is adamant he can get to the very top in the sport, and stopped Mark DeLuca in the seventh round last time out.

Brook stepped up to fight middleweight destroyer Gennadiy Golovkin in September 2016, but suffered horrendous facial injuries in a fifth-round stoppage.

Then seven months later Brook put his IBF welterweight world title on the line against Errol Spence Jr – but suffered a fractured eye socket as his corner threw in the towel in the 11th round.

The 33-year-old has refused to call time on his career despite the severity of those injuries, and has gone on to win his last three fights.

And now Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum has confirmed Brook could get his wishes of a world title shot against his undefeated fighter.

We’re exploring a Pacquiao fight, and if that can’t happen, we’re exploring a fight against Kell Brook

Boxing promoter Bob Arum

Speaking on the TalkBox podcast Arum said: “We’re working on Terence’s fight in June at the beginning of July.

“There are a couple of options for Terence.

“We’re exploring a Pacquiao fight, and if that can’t happen, we’re exploring a fight against Kell Brook.”

Crawford has won all of his 36 fights, with 27 KO’s.

One of those stoppages was of course Amir Khan in April last year.

For years fight fans have wanted to see a battle of Britain between Brook and Khan.

But the two seem no nearer actually sorting that out – and Brook feels the blame lies squarely with the Bolton man.

BROOK DISMISSES KHAN SCRAP

Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “I am fed up of hearing Khan, but I think we would all still love to see that fight. It would be realistic for me, but I don’t think he fancies it.

“People say he’s scared, I don’t think he’s scared, because he’s been in with Canelo, he’s been in with these fighters. I think it’s more about his pride, losing to another Brit.

“I understand that, but it’s risk-reward. To be great, you’ve got to do that. We’ve got history. We get asked about fighting every boxing interview we ever have.

“As much as we’ve talked about it, if it was official and we were fighting each other, believe you me, it sets alight petrol.

“All I would do to get rid of him is turn up on that day and I just knock him out. And he will get knocked out. He knows that.

“I think everybody knows as well. If anyone is holding anything up, not me, nor Eddie, him. Him, that’s who it is.”
