Tottenham are said to have failed in an attempt to sign the 22-year-old, De Telegraaf claim.
However, the player is understood to be holding out for a switch to the Bernabeu.
Real chiefs are said to have made enquiries this summer about signing the Ajax star, and were quoted a price of £50-£60million by director of football Marc Overmars.
The La Liga giant’s remain interested in Van de Beek and it’s understood they have already offered the player a multi-year contract for next season.
But reports in Spain suggest Real boss Zinedine Zidane wants to sign Manchester United playmaker Paul Pogba.
With Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen available on a free transfer next summer, Zidane is hoping the Dane makes an Old Trafford switch to open the door for Pogba to leave.
It comes after Friday’s edition of French outlet L’Equipe claims the Red Devils will refuse to let the World Cup winner and leave midway through the season in the winter window.
The Los Blancos boss was pictured in deep conversation with Pogba when they were both on holiday in Dubai in October and Marca claimed he was desperate to complete the move next month.
Pogba, meanwhile, has been out of action for United since the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in September with a persistent foot problem.
There have been suggestions the 26-year-old has not been rushing back in fear of jeopardising a potential move to Spain by aggravating his injury.
Yet boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leapt to his star’s defence recently by saying nobody should question Pogba’s desire to be fit again and playing for United.
