But the Red Devils will go into the game with their tails up after beating Tottenham and old boss Jose Mourinho last time out.
City, meanwhile, thrashed Burnley 4-1 away from home to breathe new life into their quest to retain their title.
But they have it all to do as they are ELEVEN points behind Liverpool in the league.
City have even been leapfrogged by in-form Leicester who lead the chase to catch Jurgen Klopp’s troops.
David De Gea will once again take the gloves for the trip to the Etihad. He has been one constant positive in a tough season so far.
At the back, Harry Maguire will get another chance to develop his understanding with Victor Lindelof.
GREENWOOD’S BIG CHANCE?
The pair look like they have all the attributes to make a success at centre-back, but things haven’t quite clicked into place.
Ashley Young has forced his way back into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI of late, and the old head should start ahead of the emerging Brandon Williams at left-back.
Summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka will hope to provide some attacking threat as well look solid in defence.
Fred, Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay should start in midfield.
Lingard will have to curb his attacking nature against the fluidity of City’s team, and his discipline could be key to getting a result.
Up front Mason Greenwood deputised for Anthony Martial, who missed the Spurs game with injury and is likely to be on the bench.
He could get the nod for the big one this weekend, with Marcus Rashford and Dan James supporting.
Rashford scored twice against Tottenham and was unplayable at times. United fans will hope for more of the same in the Manchester derby.
