Man Utd are ‘crazy’ about Enzo Fernandez and ‘desperate to land Benfica midfielder in January transfer’

And Fernandez, 21, is being targeted for the January transfer window, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.

United are said to be at the front of the queue to sign the midfielder.

Rivals Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be interested, as well as Europa League play-off opponents Barcelona.

They are all said to have sent scouts to watch Fernandez in action this season.

But the Red Devils are reported to be the “main interested” party.

Erik ten Hag and Co are eyeing a January move, although Benfica are only willing to sell at the end of the season.

Martinez has only been at the club since the summer, arriving from River Plate for £10.5million.

He is thought to have a whopping £105m release clause in his contract.

Fernandez has caught the eye in his debut campaign since arriving from Argentina, scoring three goals and providing fourth assists.

The midfielder helped Benfica qualify top of their Champions League group, ahead of PSG and Juventus.

His form was rewarded with a place in Argentina’s preliminary World Cup squad.

Fernandez is expected to be on the plane to Qatar with the well fancied South Americans.

And a strong World Cup would only bolster his chances of a blockbuster move to Manchester United.
