Man Utd’s £85.5m signing Antony IGNORED boss Erik ten Hag’s defensive orders during 6-3 derby drubbing to City

ANTONY ignored defensive orders from boss Erik ten Hag to track back before Sunday’s 6-3 Manchester derby mauling.

The Manchester United winger was reunited with Ten Hag, his manager at Ajax, after his £85.5million signing.

Since that transfer, Ten Hag has reminded Antony of his defensive responsibilities in all United’s training sessions at Carrington.

The message was reinforced to the 22-year-old before the clash with Manchester City at the Etihad.

But Antony seemingly forgot those instructions much to the frustration of his manager and right-back Diogo Dalot, who had no protection.

At one point in the rout, Dalot  remonstrated with Antony, who scored a scorching 30-yard strike, as he was constantly exposed down the flank by both Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva.

Dalot walked a tightrope from the second-minute yellow card for bringing down Grealish.

There was not much help for left-back Tyrell Malacia  from Jadon  Sancho either.

New-boy Malacia also picked up a booking in the first half after a loose Marcus Rashford pass set Phil Foden away.

United were 4-0 down by the break  before losing the game 6-3.

Former Red Devils midfielder Paul Scholes aimed a dig at both Antony  and Sancho in an Instagram post in which he captioned a picture of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs saying: “Anyone remember when wingers used  to help their full-backs?”

They will now aim to shake off the hangover from Sunday in the Europa League  with Thursday’s trip to Cyprus to face Omonia Nicosia.
