On the reaction to Pogba, interim boss Ralf Rangnick said: “I didn’t hear it but we were talking about it with my staff in the locker room.
“I think the fans here are amazing and the support again was great, it couldn’t have been any better.
“And I can fully understand them being frustrated – so are we – and things have stayed peaceful all the time.
“But I don’t think it makes sense to take on and target any individual players. It is a collective responsibility.
“For me it doesn’t make sense and that’s why I will always protect and defend my players.
“I think, by the way, in the first half Paul protected the ball well, because he was not playing in his best position, but without players available, I had to choose.
“And as I said, I can understand the fans in a way but don’t think it makes sense to take on individual players.”
Prior to kick-off, thousands of United fans could be heard singing the vile chant “Joe Glazer’s gonna die” as they marched through the streets calling for the owners and board to leave the club.
The protest continued inside the Theatre of Dreams, with some fans refusing to take their seats until the 17th minute – marking one minute for every year of Glazer ownership.
The Old Trafford protest came just one day after a handful of fans turned up at United’s Carrington training ground, demanding the Glazer family sell up.
The supporters want to see a major restructuring at board level in a bid to begin improving results on the pitch.
And one fan told The Mail: “We just want to highlight what’s happening. We want people to know this is not a good club.
“What the transfers do is to make the share price go up or attract sponsors.
“They are not football people. We are not even close. It’s a shambles.”
