Man Utd outcast Sergio Romero back on Everton’s transfer wishlist but Ancelotti faces competition from Juventus

EVERTON are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Sergio Romero.

The goalkeeper, 34, is set to leave Manchester United as a free agent when his contract expires next month.

Interest has arrived from Goodison Park and Juventus, according to the Mail.

Both clubs see Romero as an ideal back-up to their first-choice shot-stoppers.

The Old Lady are about to bid farewell to Gianluigi Buffon and will need competition for Wojciech Szczesny.

Likewise, Everton reserve keeper Robin Olsen is set for a new challenge once his loan from Roma expires.

United are not due to offer Romero a new contract despite Lee Grant and potentially one of David De Gea or Dean Henderson leaving this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to choose between his goalkeeper options and cash in on whoever will be short of game time.

Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton has been named as the most likely candidate to step in as the new Old Trafford back-up.

Romero’s stay in Manchester has recently been marred by disputes over his lack of opportunities.

The Argentine and wife Eliana were left fuming by Solskjaer’s decision to drop him after the August Europa League win over Copenhagen.

United’s refusal to sanction a move to Everton earlier in the season is also said to have angered the player.

Solskjaer confirmed in January that Romero and countryman Marcos Rojo were due to leave the club.

He told reporters: “Both of them have contracts until the summer and they’re not going to be extended.

“We’re looking for them to find clubs. Marcos has been given time to go home, so he’s still in Argentina.

“Sergio has been back home as well to see his family but they’re pros, working hard and ready if they call in for us.”
