Jamie Vardy out for ‘a few weeks’ after undergoing hernia operation in huge injury blow to Leicester

JAMIE VARDY has been ruled out of action for ‘a few weeks’ as he has to undergo a hernia operation.

The Foxes forward has been the star of the show this season with 11 goals and five assists in 18 league games.

But Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he will be without the 34-year-old for the next few games.

Speaking at Friday’s press conference, the Foxes boss said: “Jamie Vardy will be out for a few weeks.

“We’ve been managing him over these number of months and he’s been fantastic but we have a window now that allows him to have an operation on his hernia. Then he’ll be back.”

Vardy will miss this weekend’s FA Cup fourth-round showdown with Brentford.

And he looks likely to at least miss league games against Everton, Leeds, Fulham and Wolves.

Rodgers has hinted that he will use Spanish forward Ayoze Perez to lead the line in Vardy’s absence.

He said: “We’ve played without Jamie before and scored and won. He’s contributed to the team over these past few weeks even if he hasn’t scored.

“When you don’t have one of the top strikers in the league, it’s disappointing. It’s not overly concerning.”

Before he added: “Ayoze Perez is a natural striker. He doesn’t threaten the backline as quick as Vardy, but he’s a great finisher.

“I’ve got Kels [Kelechi Iheanacho] who can offer a threat too.”

Leicester are third in the Premier League standings after winning 12 times in 19 attempts.
