Sergio Aguero confirms David Beckham has offered him return to football with Inter Miami and is open to shock comeback

MANCHESTER CITY legend Sergio Aguero has admitted he is itching to get back on the football field despite rejecting Inter Miami’s advances – for now.

The star was forced to quit the game late last year because of a heart problem just months after joining Barcelona.

He now says he is counting down the days to the six-month deadline doctors gave him to put his boots back on.

But the 33-year-old father-of-one has insisted his only plan at the moment is to play with friends once he gets the go-ahead from medics.

TYC Sports claim that the Argentine has been offered a comeback by David Beckham’s MLS side, with him telling them: “Yesterday, it crossed my mind that I could play again.

“Inter Miami called me but I refused. In two years? Let’s see…”

Aguero also revealed he had recently turned down the offer of a kick-around in Miami after exchanging text messages with his heart specialist – as well as saying ‘no’ to the chance of playing in a match today in Qatar where he will attend Friday’s World Cup draw.

Speaking on Wednesday night after touching down in the Middle East, Sergio said: “My heart feels fine at the moment.

“Yesterday I even thought about doing some sprints to see how I was.

“I’m not thinking about returning to professional football but I’d love to get back to playing football with my friends.

“The doctors told me six months because I spent two and a half hours on the operating table and they fiddled around inside me a lot and the advice is that I don’t do things like run around like a madman for 40 minutes.”

Speaking to Argentine TV channel TyC Sports, he admitted he still suffered mentally when his heart rate jumped by doing things like running up the stairs, saying: “Before when I got out of breath from doing a sprint I didn’t think anything of it.

“Now I get out of breath and I’m thinking, ’S**t, am I okay?’

“My doctor says it’s normal my mind works like that and that I shouldn’t worry.”

Offering fans a glimmer of hope he could consider football beyond kick-arounds with pals some time in the future, he added: “You never know what’s going to happen.

“Maybe in two years I get a mad idea to play again but I don’t think it’s going to happen now.”

Aguero was filmed working up a sweat playing tennis during a holiday in Uruguay just after Christmas and dancing at his son Benji’s 13th birthday party in February – but has otherwise been taking it easy.

His retirement announcement last December was sparked by the discovery he had an irregular heartbeat in tests after he was forced off in a game for Barcelona with chest pains in October.

The former Man City player made just five appearances for the Catalan giants after leaving the Citizens at the end of last season following a record-breaking 260 goals for the Premier League club.

Earlier this month he was offered a role on Argentina’s staff at this year’s World Cup to serve as a link between the players and the coaches.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed he wants the ex-striker to be a middleman in Qatar, saying: “I would like him to be close to his teammates, that he brings us any problem or anything that could happen during a World Cup.”
