TYSON FURY is reportedly set to face WWE Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 on April 5 just weeks after his rematch against Deontay Wilder on February 22.
The Gypsy King made a winning start on his WWE debut late last year after he defeated Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.
WWE Champion Brock Lesnar could be set to face Tyson Fury at WrestleMania 36 in April
Fury, 31, had been expected to feature at wrestling’s showpiece event in some capacity, with the unbeaten heavyweight refusing to rule out a return to WWE.
According to talkSPORT’s Michael Benson, the former WBA, WBO and IBF champion is targeting a match-up against the one-time UFC heavyweight king.
He tweeted: “Tyson Fury has stated that he plans to return to WWE and face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania on April 5th after his rematch with Deontay Wilder.”
It had been suggested that Fury’s potential return to WWE would depend on whether he manages to rip away the WBC belt away from Wilder in Las Vegas next month.
But WWE COO Triple H has rubbished those claims, as he stated that he is welcomed back regardless of whether he manages to dethrone the 2008 Olympic gold medallist.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport ahead of NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool II, he said: “Having done a lot of the promotion for the last time that he worked with us, yeah I think there’s thoughts out there about a lot of things with Tyson Fury, he had a blast working with us.
“It’s funny that one of the things that I learned with him doing the press for the other time he worked for us is that in his mind, as a kid, he saw himself being a WWE superstar, not a boxer.
“Like the entertainment side of it, that showmanship side of him is in front. So I think he would love to do something more with us and love to do a bigger thing.
“I think he understands the entertainment value of this, it’s not for him about “oh I need to be the champion or I need to be this or that”.
“The doors open and I think the doors open on our side and the doors open on his side. But there’s a lot of things in between.
“And then in that fight on February 22 will be huge for him to what his next steps are, so we’re open to that but it needs to be right for everybody.”
