I had to join gangs in Texas to keep me safe but now I am fighting Jake Paul and I want to finish him

RELATIVE UNKNOWN Andre August is set for the fight of his life tonight against YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul.August, 35, is just the second professional boxer that Paul has faced – but he’s more journeyman than a glamour tie for Paul to square up against.

August has a 10-1 professional record and has won five of those by knockouts which makes him the most experienced fighter Paul has faced.
There is a mystique surrounding August, given most of his fights have been small-scale affairs so there is not actually much footage of him in action.
Despite the absence of that, his story to becoming a boxer is illuminating and he told The Daily Star all about it.
In the interview, he accredits boxing with saving his life from a world of gangs and violence.
    READ MORE ON FOOTBALL
Talking about his experiences growing up to The Daily Star, he said: “Just extremely in the hood man, it was in the hood. It was either beat down or get laid down. You got to join us or get rolled over.
“So I had to join the gangs, you know what I’m saying? And be down with whatever area outside of town I was in and I did that. It was just for me to stay safe as well.
“Because at first I was trying to go against the grain. But yeah, that’s how it happened. [If you didn’t] You was jumped. You couldn’t trust nobody on the other side of town. So, I had to join.”
August’s home of Beaumont is one of the most dangerous areas in America and according to CrimeGrade.org, the city ranks in the lowest percentile in terms of safety.

That means it is more dangerous than 99% of cities in America.
But, August says that boxing showed him a path to drag himself of bad situations.
He said: “It played a major role in my life. Even just keeping me away from the streets. It also brought me away from my hometown.
“It’s kind of bittersweet, but I’m away from my hometown. So I’m out here living a good life, living an ok life with the boxing world.
“I still have my other things I do besides boxing. I still work and things like that. So, I’m just a man is trying to live his dream, man. I got my kids. Just being a dad, man.”
There is a huge gap on his boxing CV between 2019 and 2023 where August did not fight sue to the pandemic and he said those days were rough: “The number one thing is the pandemic.
“The pandemic was the one that started everything. Ever since the first year and the second year the funds were getting low.
“I had to take care of my family and be a man of the house so I had to work.”
August is grateful for the exposure fighting Paul will bringCredit: Getty
To make ends mate he worked for American insurance company State Farm, before returning to achieve victory over Brandon Martin in August.
August’s background couldn’t really be any more different from the privileged start to life for the Paul brothers – who have only been making more money since going into boxing.

But August knows the opportunity he has if he is to beat Paul, and said: “As far as me, it’s been a long time coming. So I’m here you know. I did what I did in the past as far as my amateur career.
I did have a deep career as well in my pro career. I did it with a lot of self discipline, that’s just me being out here doing what I need to do, just like right now.” More

KSI boxing record: Who has the YouTuber fought

KSI is returning to the ring for the first time since he headlined the huge Misfits Boxing Prime card against Tommy Fury. Now the YouTuber is set to face fellow internet star IShowSpeed in a sparring match on December 15, 2023.
KSI pictured during the Misfits Cruiserweight fight against Tommy Fury in 2023
    Who has the YouTuber fought?
Like many internet sensations, KSI has used his social media fame as an opportunity to enter the world of boxing.
As of December 2023, the YouTuber-turned boxer boasts a boxing record of 4-1-1.
    Logan Paul
Having previously beaten fellow YouTuber Joe Weller in his first amateur boxing fight, KSI turned his attention to Logan Paul as his next opponent.
The highly-anticipated fight ended in a draw, with the rematch scheduled as a professional fight – the first of both their careers.

KSI once again emerged victorious with a result of a split decision, with two judges scoring the contest in favour of the British boxer.
    Swarmz and Luis Pineda
In 2022, KSI returned to the ring once more to face rapper Swarmz.
Later that evening, the YouTuber fought for a second time against Mexican boxer Luis Pineda.
Following the double fight night, KSI defeated Swarmz via a second round KO – and that wasn’t his only victory.

KSI also defeated Pineda via a third round KO.
    FaZe Temperrr
The next boxing bout saw KSI take to the ring against Brazilian YouTuber FaZe Temperrr.
However, he was originally scheduled to face Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis.
This bout turned out to be KSI’s quickest victory to date – with the contest stopping in the first round following a brutal knockout.
    Joe Fournier
Following a number of wins, KSI faced professional boxer Joe Fournier, who was also undefeated, in May 2023 at the Wembley Arena in London.
During the second round, the YouTuber-turned boxer threw a right hook that missed, causing his elbow to strike Fournier, knocking him unconscious.
KSI was awarded the KO win on the night, but after the bout concluded, Fournier appealed the decision.
Later that month, the Professional Boxing Association officially overturned the win and it was ruled as a no contest.
    Tommy Fury
The YouTuber suffered a unanimous decision defeat to the Love Island star in their grudge match.
The bout took place at Manchester Arena in Manchester, on October 14, 2023.
Internet sensation KSI fumed with the result of the contest, so much so that he launched an appeal to the Professional Boxing Association.
But the PBA have insisted there were NO grounds to overturn the result of the Misfits melee.
KSI was consumed with rage after slipping to his first defeat in the influencer boxing scene and claimed he was “robbed” of a victory.”
He said: “Obviously [Tommy Fury’s] a pro boxer.

“If I won, it’s a mockery for the sport. That’s how they see it.
“I won it bro. I got robbed. It’s outrageous bro… I was landing the cleanest shots, he couldn’t get any jabs off.” More

“Under his Instagram posts, Twitter posts or anything that he posts online.

Man Utd fans only just realising Mark Goldbridge’s REAL name with YouTuber once enjoying very different job with police

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are just discovering YouTuber Mark Goldbridge’s real name – and a back story equally as intriguing. The presenter on The United Stand and talkSPORT watched Nottingham Forest as a kid and was a policeman who became a detective.

But many Red Devils’ supporters have only now realised his true moniker is  Brent Di Cesare.
The married dad of three, 44, who lives in Solihull, is of Italian descent.
But that Azzurri association is the only thing supporters might be able to guess from his real name.
Fans were amazed to discover his alternative details as they reflected on the Red Devils’ early exit from the Champions League.

One posted: “Wait y’all know who Brent Di Cesare is?”
And others revealed they had dashed off to Wikipedia to check it out.
But his marvellous moniker, which he changed at his police bosses’ request when he launched his YouTube career, is just one fascinating fact about the outspoken broadcaster.
Goldbridge has gone from investigating crimes to laying down the law on United performances.

He’s amassed around 3million followers across his four YouTube channels, regularly going viral with his rants
But his football journey began watching Forest – as he was born in Nottingham and his dad would take him to the City Ground.
However, his parents split when he was six and his mum’s dad got him into following United.
After working in insurance in Ireland, he returned to England in his mid-20s – joining the police because he couldn’t find any other employment.
Goldbridge told JackMaate’s Happy Hour podcast in December 2020: “When I came back from Dublin, I had no qualifications.
“I had a C in Maths and English and that was it. And although I had quite a good job in Ireland, I couldn’t get a job anywhere.
“My wife said ‘why don’t you go in the police?’.
“I wanted to do the fire service but I’m not very good with heat, I’m really irritable in the heat so I went in the police.
Mark Goldbridge was a detective with a far more exotic nameCredit: Instagram @markgoldbridge
“Uniform about a year-and-a-half then a detective for 10 years.”
And his reason for switching from the beat might surprise fans who know him best for his hard-hitting outbursts.
He would “just walk about and try and stay out of trouble” as “I haven’t got the physique for it, have I?” – so he moved into detection.
Goldbridge also revealed his trauma at seeing dead bodies on the job – with the “horrible smell” of the first occasion still remaining with him.
His online persona kicked off when he set up Soccer Box TV after England exited the 2014 World Cup at the group stage for the first time since 1958.
