Aaron Chalmers reveals talks with Tommy Fury but still eyes life-changing fight with Jake Paul and Love Islanders

AARON CHALMERS is now in position to set himself up with life-changing fights with stars from the YouTube and reality TV world. Chalmers, 34, has now confirmed his switch from MMA to professional boxing, signing for promotional company Boxxer and Sky Sports.
Former reality TV star Aaron Chalmers, 34, has confirmed his move from MMA to boxing
It is the latest chapter in his prizefighting career, which started in 2017 with an MMA debut and will now carry on into the ring.
But Chalmers almost began his boxing career with a mega-fight against fellow influencer Tommy Fury.
He verbally agreed to face Fury, 22, while out of shape weighing 14st and having never boxed before.
But after meeting with trainer Adam Booth in the following days and revealing his plan, the esteemed boxing brain put a stop to that.
Chalmers told SunSport: “I met Adam a week later, and he said, ‘No chance’. It was not in my favour whatsoever.”
What followed for Chalmers was 17 months under the watchful eye of Booth, who famously led David Haye to a heavyweight world title.

He is set to make his pro boxing debut this April in the middleweight division as the latest high-profile name to sign with Sky Sports.
Chalmers helped headline MMA shows in his home of Newcastle – as well as London and Dublin – with the backing of his Geordie Shore fanbase.
And re-igniting talks with Fury, brother to heavyweight champion Tyson, could be another way of introducing boxing to a new set of eyeballs.
Chalmers said: “I don’t know Tommy, but I know he probably gets as much stick as I do.
“So maybe that’s something we can look at down the line. He’s a big lad, stuff like that, it interests us.
“Because it’s a challenge, it’s a big fight, maybe not for so-called ‘boxing fans’.
“But I’ll bring Geordie Shore fans to the boxing, which is not a bad thing.”

Chalmers is surrounded by elite boxing talent like Michael Conlan, Liam Williams and Josh Kelly at Booth’s Surrey-based gym.
He lives nearby, but that comes at the cost of spending only one weekend every fortnight back home with his partner Talia and their three kids.
But with the likes of YouTuber Jake Paul, 25, bringing millions of pounds to any opponent he faces, it offers Chalmers the ultimate reward.
Chalmers, who has 2million Instagram followers, said: “The sacrifices were made because I knew what could come, I’m looking at how boxing is going.
“Obviously, you’ve got your Jake Pauls and all that, going down that route. If one of them fights come up, that’s my family sorted for life.
“Not that I’m chasing that from the off, but I know with the right noise made, something like that could happen.
“Then the sacrifices would be worth it, as I’d never have to work a day in my life again.”

Paul’s coach BJ Flores is an old friend of Chalmers’ manager Booth, potentially making the fight easier to negotiate.
Love Island winner Jack Fincham, 30, is another celeb with a boxing background, looking to get in the ring again.
But despite the list of big-money bouts on offer to Chalmers, winning a prestigious domestic belt, like the famed English or British titles, could be just as rewarding.
Chalmers said: “By all means, if Adam and I thought in two or three years time, I was ready, then 100 per cent I would never shy away from trying to earn a belt.
“For someone who started boxing at 33 years old I would f***ing love to retire with a British or English title.
“For me that is a big, big step, but we’ll see. Along with those fights, you’ve also got Jack Fincham, and other fighters in boxing we can look at.
“I’m just excited, I’m so glad it’s been announced.”

YouTubers who became boxers, from the infamous Paul brothers to rapper KSI, Dubai billionaire Money Kicks and Joe Weller

FORGET recording video content for their adoring followers, these YouTubers would rather stream fights. In recent years, boxing has been dominated by social media personalities who are stepping into the ring to add to their fortunes.

While some are fighting each other, others are taking on former UFC stars, ex-basketball players, and even calling out pros like Conor McGregor.
Here are six YouTube stars who have become boxers.
    Jake Paul
The most famous out of all the YouTubers when it comes to the sport, Jake has enjoyed an epic rise in boxing.
Boasting a 5-0 record, he has seen off MMA stars Tyron Woodley (twice), Ben Askren and cruelly knocked out ex-NBA hero Nate Robinson.
Jake has repeatedly called out UFC’s Jorge Masvidal for a fight, while he has a continuing beef with Conor McGregor.
It has been reported he has made around £20million so far in his astonishing career.

    Logan Paul
Jake’s elder brother Logan was the first of the Paul brothers to embrace combat.
Unbelievably, when the pair were on the rise Logan and Jake offered each other out for a fight, although that never materialised.
Logan did fight YouTube rival KSI, though, twice. The first fight ended in a draw, then KSI won a rematch at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which was streamed by DAZN in the US.
The fight was watched by over 2.25 million live viewers, including over 1.05 million watching pay-per-view and 1.2 million watching illegal streams on Twitch.

    KSI
Conqueror of Logan Paul, YouTuber/rapper/boxer KSI, real name JJ Olatunji, isn’t short of confidence.
The British star labelled Jake a “c***” in front of brother Logan, insisting he would be able to beat him in a fight. Whether or not that happens is another thing, with KSI
So far KSI has fought three times, twice against Paul and once against Joe Weller – and is undefeated.
With over 34million subscribers, you can bet if the Londoner was to return to the ring it would draw huge pay-per-view figures, even if he does say he’s retired… for now.

    Money Kicks
You wouldn’t normally associate Rashed Belhasa, better known as Money Kicks, with boxing.
No, in fact it’s more common to see him hanging out with sports stars in a zoo that’s part of the heir to a billionaire’s mansion and posting photos on his Instagram.
However, Belhasa is game – and will fight the legend that is Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition bout scheduled to go for eight rounds, if it lasts that long, on February 20 in Dubai.
He’s confident too. He told Sky Sports: “Mayweather is too fast – I need to be close and just go crazy on him!
“I won’t lie to myself. Entering the ring with him is an honour. I will try my best. You never know – any punch can land, and I have heavy hands.”

    Joe Weller
Eastbourne YouTuber Weller was the first of his kind to start the trend of social media personalities going into boxing.
He fought internet star Theo Baker in 2017, winning the contest, and called himself the “champion of boxing on YouTube.”
Weller would later lose to KSI, and spar with Jake Paul in LA when he visited.
He has not fought since being knocked out by Paul in the first round of their sparring session.

    AnEsonGib
The Saudi-born AnEsonGib, real name Ali Loui Al-Fakhri, fought at amateur level before taking on Jake Paul and losing.
He did enjoy success early on – winning by technical knockout against fellow YouTuber MaxPlaysFifa at the Copper Box Arena in London in 2018, and defeating Jay Swingler of TGFbro by unanimous decision.
Most recently, Gib fought American TikToker Tayler Holder in an exhibition bout at the YouTubers vs. TikTokers event last.
The result was originally announced as a majority draw.
However, following controversy, the result was changed to a UD victory for Gib after a review by the officiating organisation

The 24-year-old told talkSPORT: “I was upset. A lot of stuff had been said and I wanted to knock him out. I wanted to make him bleed and eat the canvas.
“That is the most satisfying part when your opponent has a lot to say and you just knock them out and embarrass them in front of the whole world.
“I’m a little bit p****d off I’m not able to do that. The kid is scared. The kid cracked under pressure.
“The whole fight build-up got to him and now he fumbled the biggest opportunity of his life, the biggest pay day of his life.
“He’s going to have to return all the Christmas presents he got Molly as he has no way of paying for them.”
Fury still plans to fight, and beat, his American rival in 2022 – but Paul has cast doubt on that.
    ‘NOT RELIABLE’
He said: “The door is closing (for Tommy Fury). He’s not reliable. He didn’t show up to the first press conference. He’s faking these injuries or whatever they are.
“It’s upsetting. So if he’s doing that now, then what is stopping him from doing it next year.
“For me, in a cynical way, I just want to leave him in the dust and never give him this opportunity again.”

Paul will instead fight Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August bout.
The ex-UFC star is already in training and was offered an extra £377,000 if he secures a revenge knockout.
Paul added: “The show must go on. This is business and these types of things happen in boxing and I just told my team I will fight anybody, whoever it is.
“Tyron Woodley was down, he’d been training for a fight in January and he has balls for getting in there and stepping in.
“It’s going to be exciting, almost a more exciting fight than Tommy Fury because Tyron is harder. He’s more experienced and wants to get that knockout.” More

But he is now solely focused on honing his own skills, having signed a deal with Sky Sports.
And the East Londoner, who is already 4-0 with high-profile bouts in Mexico, Las Vegas and Dubai under his belt, hopes future foes write him off as a novelty act – at their peril.
The West Ham-trained ace told SunSport: “if there are still any fighters out there who doubt me and underrate me, then they only have one more fight to enjoy that.
“It might have been a little tool to use as my advantage but once I make my Sky Sports debut they will see how serious I am.
“Anyone who thinks I am just a social media star or a celebrity boxer will realise very soon the damage I can do.

“Then I predict I will become very avoided – until somebody wants to try to get a payday off of me.”
Riley’s brand-building business nous means has already amassed over 1million YouTube subscribers and will have a target on his back.
While mate KSI and rivals Jake and Logan Paul and Tommy Fury have used the sport to boost their popularity and earning power, Riley is an old-school fighter since childhood and wants to remind the UK of that with his homecoming bow.
He revealed: “I have trained a lot over in Las Vegas at the Floyd Mayweather gym but now I will be doing all of my training and camps in the UK.
“I am a British fighter, I want domestic rivalries and domestic titles before I go on to win world titles.”
“Because of all the hard work I have done as a trainer, I am way ahead of any other fighter – in terms of brand and following – at a similar level of experience, so people will be wanting to have a crack at me.
“That’s great for me, I want a nice long queue of opponents who want to try to make a name for themselves off me, they will be perfect target practice for me.”

Like it or loathe it, YouTube and celebrity boxing is a mega-money new aspect of the hurt business and Riley has played a pivotal role in its formation.
And that brain power – along with his heavy hands – means Sky have had to bash the bank to land him and will still offer him a punditry position.
He said: “As long as it never interferes with my own training or fighting, I will continue with the television work I have done recently with Sky’s boxing relaunch, two wages are better than one.
“Negotiations went on for a long time because they – and their competitors – know I bring something to the table that very few other people do.
“Sky have not only signed up a talented boxer but they know I have the knowledge of and influence in a market that is changing the whole sport.”
