From London to Brazil, beers flew into the air and supporters ripped their shirts off in celebration.
After the astonishing game, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez said: “There could not have been a World Cup that I have dreamed of like this. I was calm during the penalties.”
For Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni it was a nail-biting finish to a turbulent tournament and he could not hold back his tears following the final whistle.
“I cannot believe that we have suffered so much in a perfect game. Unbelievable, but this team responds to everything,” Scaloni said.

“I am proud of the work they did. It is an exciting group. With the blows we received today, with the draws, this makes you emotional. I want to tell people to enjoy, it’s a historic moment for our country.”
It was the third world title for Argentina and the first since the late Diego Maradona won the trophy almost single-handedly in 1986.
For Argentina players and captain Messi, who netted twice in the 120 minutes before also scoring in the shoot-out, it was the biggest title of their careers.
Messi’s Argentine team had made the final as recently as 2014 but on that occasion they finished second best to Germany.

“I’ll never forget it. We had to suffer but we deserved to win,” Argentina defender Rodrigo De Paul said.
“We’ve beaten the last champions, it’s a joy I cannot put into words.

Ally McCoist trolls England with cheeky jibe as he quips Kylian Mbappe made history with World Cup final hat-trick

ALLY MCCOIST was once again on top form while on commentary duty for the World Cup final. The Scotland hero has been a hit with viewers for his media work over the course of the tournament in Qatar.
Ally McCoist was on commentary duty for the World Cup final between Argentina and FranceCredit: Getty
He was chosen by ITV to take the mic for the showpiece tie this evening alongside broadcaster Sam Matterface and ex-Arsenal defender Lee Dixon.
The match itself turned out to be a thriller – with several touting it to be one of the greatest World Cup finals of all time.
Argentina came out on top through penalties but looked to have been cruising at one point with a 2-0 lead.
A quickfire Kylian Mbappe double forced extra-time before Lionel Messi’s second of the night then put the South Americans ahead once again.

Mbappe though was given the chance to complete a historic hat-trick when the French were awarded another spot-kick two minutes from time.
His emphatic disposal meant he became the first player to score three in the final of a World Cup since Sir Geoff Hurst for England in 1966.
Matterface was keen to reference this impressive stat on commentary but was hit with a quick-witted response from McCoist.
Even so many years after, debate has still never been settled as to whether one of Hurst’s famous goals had crossed the line or not.

And McCoist quickly pointed out: “(He’s the) First person to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final with all three over the line.”
Matterface joked, “You might get some letters about that comment.”
To which McCoist replied: “I might get one or two!”
Speaking after the tie, McCoist couldn’t hide his excitement over the game he had witnessed, he added: “It was an absolutely outrageous final.
“Let’s be honest for a good bit of it we were disappointed about how France were going about the game.
“But after the penalty it exploded into one of the best games of football I’ve ever seen, never mind just in the World Cup.
“We said before ‘Is the script written for the wee man?’ He was amazing.
“Mbappe and Messi both turned up – the two players that we spoke about before the game. It’s an absolute privilege to be here.”

Kylian Mbappe coolly tucked away France’s first penalty, having also beaten Martinez twice from 12 yards during the 120 minutes.
    But Mbappe’s team-mates couldn’t handle Martinez’s antics.
The shimmying, swaggering Aston Villa goalkeeper saved Kingsley Coman’s spot kick.
He then won a battle of mind games with Aurelien Tchouameni to put Argentina close to the finishing line.

Tchouameni, 22, was made to wait an age to take his penalty after Martinez threw the ball away.
The referee booked the stopper for his unsportsmanlike conduct – but the damage had been done.
The French midfielder missed the target altogether, with Martinez performing a dance in celebration.
Randal Kolo Muani did manage to blast home France’s next penalty kick.

But Gonzalo Montiel then had the opportunity to win the World Cup for Argentina – sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way to launch his country into dreamland.
Martinez, 30, had also made a crucial stop to deny Kolo Muani one-on-one in the final seconds of extra time.

And after his shoot-out antics, fans couldn’t help but point out his incredible role in Argentina’s victory.
One wrote: “I love Emiliano Martinez biggest s***house in football.”
While a second tweeted: “Emi Martinez is a proper s***house and I absolutely love it”
A third gushed: “Emi Martinez what a world class s***house.”
But a fourth wanted to point out: “Emi Martinez picking Kylian Mbappe up off the floor after the game.
“Emi can be a massive s***house but that was a touch of class from our keeper.”
The stopper was rewarded for his performances after the match by picking up the Golden Glove award.

And one blonde woman left nothing to the imagination as she celebrated with her top off.
Glam footie fans risk being slapped with huge fines – or even put behind bars if they flash their figures in Qatar.

Although non-Qatari women don’t need to wear the abaya – the long, black robe – their tops must cover their midriff and shoulders, and skirts, dresses and trousers must cover the knees.
Women travelling in to the Arab nation are also banned from wearing any tight clothing, or flashing any cleavage.

And WAGs were advised to wear a scarf around their necks in a bid to cover up their busts.
Fans were quick to take to social media to point out the topless woman risked arrest due to the nation’s very strict conservative laws.
One fan said: “I spotted her, very brave! she’ll be arrested over there if she’s not careful…”
A second added: “Caught live on TV”.

The game was hailed as one of the best World Cup finals ever after Argentina overcame the French 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 thriller.
The South Americans started the better side as Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria scored in the first half.
France and Kylian Mbappe hit back in the second half as the PSG forward netted a crucial brace to send the game to extra time.
Messi and Mbappe directed fist-pumps at each other after their respective goals.
The Argentine captain had thought he had won the game in extra time before Mbappe had one more chance from the spot after Montiel handled the ball in the box.

The current trophy is called the Fifa World Cup Trophy.
Before Fifa awarded teams with a different trophy called the Jules Rimet trophy.

West Germany scored two goals thanks to Paul Breitner’s penalty and a goal from Gerhard Muller.
These goals helped make a comeback against The Netherlands who had a penalty scored by Johan Neeskens in the second minute of the final.

Famously stolen in 1966 and then found by Pickles the dog, Bobby Moore lifted the trophy in England’s only World Cup triumph.
Rimet had stipulated before his death that if a team won the tournament three times they could keep the gong – and Brazil managed to achieve that feat in 1970.
Sadly the trophy was stolen again in 1983 and it is widely believed that the thieves melted it down. More

As a result, the game went to extra-time.

Joining them on the pitch was Aguero, who won more than 100 caps for his country and played at three World Cups.
