World Cup 2022 LIVE: France’s Tunisia defeat could be OVERTURNED, Argentina TOP Group C, England squad updates – latest

FRANCE’S shocking 1-0 defeat to Tunisia could be dramatically overturned.Antoine Griezmann thought he had rescued a point for the world champions deep into stoppage time before the goal was chalked off in a controversial offside call.
But France have demanded Fifa change the result as Tunisia had kicked off before the equaliser was ruled out which goes against the rulebook.
Meanwhile, Argentina recovered from their opening-day defeat to Saudi Arabia by topping Group C with a win over Poland.
And England are training with the entire remaining squad after the departure of Arsenal star Ben White ahead of Senegal clash.

England Head and shoulders above the rest says Hoddle
Former England manager reckons Gareth Southgate’s side have been comfortably better than any of their rivals at the World Cup.
He told Betfair: “Now it’s the knockouts it’s a step up in quality of opposition, but you can only do what you can in the group that you’re in, and look at some of the other teams, Belgium, Argentina, France, they’ve all had little obstacles and dropped points.
“We’re head and shoulders above those at the moment, we’ve made it easier for ourselves by playing so well.
“I love the fact that the boys genuinely feel like a team. Saka would have been very disappointed that he wasn’t playing against Wales, he didn’t do anything wrong in the game against the USA.
“Foden came in, did brilliant, scored, made the goal with the freekick, and he runs at people.
“There are some tough selections to make now for Gareth, but they are only tough in the positive way, not in the negative way. As a manager you always want those kind of decisions.”
    Half-time
    Canada 1 Morocco 2
    Croatia 0 Belgium 0
It’s half-time and it’s good news for Croatia and Morocco, who are heading through.
As for Belgium, they need to find a goal from somewhere or they’ll crash out in the group stages for the first time since the 1998 World Cup.
But it’s been more than three hours since their only goal of the tournament so far.

    Canada 1 Morocco 2
Canada are back in the game and in fortuous circumstances.
Adekugbe gets in down the left and fires a ball across that deflects in off West Ham defender Aguerd.
The Africans are still sitting at the top of the group, but they will give them something to think about.
    Belgium feeling the heat
    From Martin Lipton in Qatar
There is a strange mood inside the stadium.
    Subdued, uncertain, nervous.
Croatia still appear the more composed team, although the statistics suggest it’s far more even a contest than it feels.
And, of course, if you have De Bruyne, you will always have hope.
At some point, surely, Martinez will have to think about Lukaku, no matter how fit he really is.
    Canada 0 Morocco 2
Morocco appear to be cruising into the knockout stages as they doubled their lead inside 30 minutes.
En-Nesyri latches onto an excellent ball in behind the Canada backline and composes himself before clinically firing low past Borjan.

    Suarez showing no mercy
Luis Suarez has been speaking ahead of his reunion with Ghana and said that he’s not sorry about his handball incident 12 years ago.
The ex-Liverpool striker was famously sent off for handballing on the line in the last minute of their clash at the 2010 World Cup.
He said: “I don’t have to apologize for the handball in 2010.
“I touched it with my hand, they sent me off and Ghana took their penalty and missed it. I didn’t make any mistakes.”

    Croatia 0 Belgium 0
15 minutes in and we already have some VAR drama.
Carrasco brings down Kramaric and concedes a penalty and just as Modric is about to take the kick, Anthony Taylor is asked to go over to the monitor and check for an offside.
The decision is eventually overturned and Modric and his Croatian team-mates are furious.
Belgium get away with another one.

    Canada 0 Morocco 1
But we do have an early goal in the other game.
It’s a goalkeeping mistake from Milan Borjan, who gets takes a heavy touch and gets caught in no man’s land.
Hakim Ziyech picks up the loose ball and takes full advantage by coolly chipping the ball home from 35-yards.
As it stands, Morocco are winning the group and Belgium are heading home.
    Croatia 0 Belgium 0
Croatia almost lead inside 10 seconds.
Ivan Perisic picks up the ball on the left and cuts inside before firing a spectacular effort just past the post.
Belgium, who must avoid defeat to have any chance of progressing to the round of 16, just about survive the early scare.
    Maguire mocked by Ghanaian politician
A Ghanaian MP bizarrely used Harry Maguire to attack his political opponents during a debate on the economy.
Isaac Adongo said: “If you’re a fan of football … there was a player in England called [Harry] Maguire who was playing for Manchester United. He’s a defender.
“[At Leicester] he was tackling everybody and throwing his body everywhere. He was seen as the best defender in the world.
“Manchester United went and bought him. He became the biggest threat at the centre of Manchester United’s defence, tackling [his own] players and giving assists to opponents.
“Mr Speaker, when even opponents fail to score, Maguire will score for them. Mr Speaker, you remember in this country we also have an Economic Maguire.”

    Scaloni downplays Argentina ‘favourites’ tag
Lionel Scaloni says Argentina are “not favourites” to beat Australia in the last-16, saying: “They’re all difficult, we saw that with Saudi Arabia.
“If you think Australia will be easy you’re wrong because they have shown that getting through against tough teams in this World Cup.
“All the games are hard. Anyone who thinks the match against Australia will be easy is wrong. We’re not favourites.
“If you think that just because we won against Poland, we are going to become World Cup winners, you’re wrong.”
Team news – Canada vs Morocco
Canada have made four changes for their final group game, having already been knocked out of the World Cup.
But Morocco can still go through and have made two changes.

Morocco: Bono; Hakimi, Aguerd, Saiss, Mazraoui; Ounahi, Amrabat, Sabiri; Ziyech, En-Nesyri, Boufal

    Partey time for London rivals
Arsenal star Thomas Partey is ready to lock horns with Uruguay’s Tottenham man Rodrigo Bentancur in Doha.
Ghana ace Partey said: “Bentancur is a very good player and a great midfielder. I respect him a lot and know how careful we will have to be against him.
“He plays for a great team in Tottenham and we don’t have to be told about the quality of his game.
“But he is not the only one who is dangerous. They also have Darwin Nunez and we have seen what he can do in the Premier League.”

    Suarez still ‘hated’ in Ghana

“Fans of the rival nations watching the game in a popular sports bar began squaring up to each other as the drama unfolded and Antoine Griezmann’s late equaliser for France was ruled out for offside by VAR.

Eden Hazard DROPPED from Belgium team to face Croatia and ex-Chelsea star could have played final World Cup game

ROBERTO MARTINEZ has axed Eden Hazard and ignored the chance to start Romelu Lukaku for Belgium’s must win game against Croatia.Hazard was subbed in both games group games now he is not deemed good enough to start a crunch game for the Red Devils.

It seems age and injuries have finally caught up with the 31-year-old Real Madrid and former Chelsea star.
With goals needed it was expected that Lukaku would get the call to start.
He had not played since the end of October until he came on for ten minutes against Morocco but Martinez clearly feels he is not up to speed to start.
They were two of four changes from the team that suffered a shock defeat to Morocco after their 1-0 laboured victory over Canada that has left them having to beat Croatia to progress.

Martinez’s preparations have also been rocked by reports of a bust up in the dressing room following that Morocco victory.
It was said that Lukaku had to intervene when a row broke out between Kevin De Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen and Eden Hazard.
This stemmed from De Bruyne’s pre-tournament comments that the team was now too old to win the World Cup.
Martinez tried to play it all down claiming it was a dirty tricks campaign by the French media who first broke the story.

Having said that the camp had to have a team bonding barbecue and clear the air meeting on Monday to try and calm everything down.
Not the best build up for a country who seemed to miss their big chance in the last World Cup in finishing third.
Now they have to get past the runners-up from Russia just to progress into the knockout stages having been in at least the quarter-finals of the previous four major tournaments.
Croatian boss Zlatko Dalic stuck with the same team from the impressive 4-1 win over Canada.
They just need a point from this game to ensure their progression but Dalic insisted it would be dangerous to play just for that.

While the game is just a friendly and the scoreline counts for nothing, it is still a surprising defeat for the Germans.
There were plenty of youth players on the pitch for Dortmund in the second half, but they were joined by former Liverpool ace Emre Can.
And he was unable to help the German club avoid defeat.
Coach Edin Terzic was happy with the workout the players had as well as the opportunity to give chances to the younger players.

Cristiano Ronaldo a huge doubt for Portugal’s World Cup clash against South Korea in blow to Golden Boot hopes

And the absence could mean he is ruled out for Portugal – who are already through to the knockout stages after winning their opening two games against Ghana and Uruguay.
That is despite Ronaldo returning to training on Thursday, just 24 hours before the game with South Korea.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Santos said: “Let’s see. In principle, Ronaldo will train soon.
“I don’t even know if it’s 50/50 [the probability of being fit for the game]. If you train normally.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was replaced in both games. There’s a plan in case Cristiano can’t play.
“There is no player guaranteed to play at all time. It would hardly run if we didn’t have a plan.”
Ronaldo, now a free agent after parting ways with Man Utd last week, has started both of Portugal’s games in Qatar so far.
He scored a penalty in the 3-2 win over Ghana, but then failed to hit the back of the net in the 2-0 victory over Uruguay.

That was despite the Real Madrid legend claiming he had scored his ninth World Cup goal when he ran off celebrating after leaping to meet a Bruno Fernandes cross.
However, replays showed he did not touch the ball and his former United team-mate was awarded the goal.
Now his fitness issues heading into the South Korea clash threaten to hamper his pursuit of the Golden Boot even further.
Ronaldo is already two goals behind the leading candidates for the award.
France’s Kylian Mbappe, Ecuador’s Enner Valencia, Holland’s Cody Gakpo and England’s Marcus Rashford all scored three goals in the group stage.
Ronaldo has never won the World Cup Golden Boot and has failed to help Portugal progress beyond the last 16 of the competition since he reached the semi-finals in 2006.
Meanwhile, manager Santos was also missing Otavio, Danilo Pereira and Nuno Mendes during Wednesday’s training session.

Robert Lewandowski reveals what he told Lionel Messi after awkward moment between pair during World Cup clash

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI has revealed what he told Lionel Messi at full-time – after the pair had an awkward moment in the World Cup. A lot was at stake last night with Argentina and Poland both vying for qualification.

The pair could be seen sharing a chat at the end of the gameCredit: Getty
The game pitted two of the world’s deadliest forwards of the past decade against each other but it was Messi who was more involved.
The 35-year-old won a controversial penalty before missing his spot kick in the first-half.
But he was far more his old self in the second half and helped to orchestrate the victory as Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez scored.
Lewandowski meanwhile was far more quiet but got caught in a strange moment with Messi towards the end of the game.

The Polish striker fouled the PSG star and attempted to apologise.
But Messi, focused on seeing Argentina over the line, visibly ignored his attempts to communicate.
But the pair were seen chatting away at full-time and Lewandowski revealed what their exchange was all about.
He told Bild: “We talked a little, had fun. I told Messi that I played more defensively than usual – but something like that is sometimes necessary for the team.”

He added of his more defensive role that saw him foul the Argentine: “This is very rare, yes: Me in the defensive midfield. But I knew I had to help the team.”
Lewandowski, who arrived at Barcelona a year after Messi’s emotional departure, barely had a sniff going forward.
Poland had entered the night as group leaders but at one point were only qualifying due to having picked up fewer yellow cards than Mexico.
But they got over the line on goal difference in the end thanks to a late strike from Saudi Arabia’s Salem Al Dawsari against the Mexicans. More

England have only player in the world who can stop Mbappe say Man Utd icons ahead of potential World Cup clash vs France

ENGLAND have the only player “on the planet” that can stop France superstar Kylian Mbappe in the 2022 World Cup, claim Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville. The Three Lions and Les Bleus both punched their ticket to the Last 16 where they will face Senegal and Poland respectively.

If Gareth Southgate and Didier Deschamps’ teams make it out of the Round of 16 they will face each other in a crunch quarter-final clash.
That means England’s defence will go up against Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe, who has already scored three goals and bagged one assist in three World Cup games.
However, Ferdinand and Neville insist the Euro 2020 finalists have nothing to fear as they have the right man to keep the star forward quiet.
And that is none other than Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker.

Ferdinand said on his FIVE show: “For me, Kyle Walker is the only defender on the planet right now that will stand there and go to Mbappe: ‘Right, 1-v-1, let’s have a race’.
“He will back himself too. We saw it in the Euros. He’s got the confidence to do that and he’s the only one capable of doing that I think.”
Neville echoed his former Manchester United team-mate’s statement as he feels Walker has the right pace, physicality and experience to deal with Mbappe.
The former England international added that this is a “collision course waiting to happen”.

“I didn’t think the centre-back pairing would be strong enough, but John Stones and Harry Maguire are holding up.
“It’s whether what they’ve played against so far in the first three games is going to be anything like what they face moving forward, and I don’t think it is.
“It looks like a collision course waiting to happen doesn’t it? Mbappe versus Walker.
“We’ve got the perfect right-back to deal with Mbappe if anyone can – physical, pace, experience.” More

LaBonta limped to the corner flag while clutching her hamstring and looked to be in discomfort.
Seconds later, the California-born player can be seen grinning and twerking and Spiranac was brilliant in her recreation.
