England vs Senegal: Stream FREE, kick-off time, TV channel, team news and prediction for huge World Cup 2022 last-16 tie

ENGLAND are purring along nicely as they head into the last 16 of the World Cup but now face Africa’s finest in Senegal. The Three Lions topped Group B after comfortably beating Wales 3-0 on Tuesday evening and are the joint-highest goalscorers in the tournament so far.

How England lined up against Wales
Marcus Rashford grabbed himself a brace and Phil Foden scored the other on a glorious night for manager Gareth Southgate.
But now Southgate’s side must focus on the knockout stages, where they’ll face AFCON 2022 champions Senegal.
The Lions of Teranga came second in Group A, which also contained Holland, Qatar and Ecuador.
Senegal had to beat Ecuador in their final group game and they did so thanks to Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s late winner.

    How did they get here?
England began their campaign in thrilling fashion as they thrashed Iran 6-2, with young Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka picking up two goals.
After a disappointing draw with the USA, the Three Lions secured top spot in the group after beating rivals Wales 3-0, leaving the Dragons to finish bottom of the group.
Senegal had a harder start to life in Qatar, losing their opener to Netherlands due to two late goals.
However wins over hosts Qatar as well as a tight fought battle with Ecuador meant that Senegal had qualified for the Round of 16 for the first time since 2002.

    Team news
England are set to have a fully fit squad for their last-16 match-up with Senegal, barring Ben White’s early return home.
Southgate, however, may decide to hand Marcus Rashford a start following his brilliant performance in the win over Wales.
Foden also impressed, but Bukayo Saka could come back into the side, as could Mason Mount, who dropped to the bench in favour of Jordan Henderson on Tuesday night.

Kieran Tripper may also come back into the XI alongside Kyle Walker, but that would most likely see England’s system change from a 4-3-3 to one that favours five at the back.
Senegal will also have a mostly fit squad butkey man Sadio Mane will be OUT of the game, having been ruled out the tournament with a knee inury.

How Senegal lined up against Ecuador
Who will be the star men?
Southgate will have a selection headache after standout performances from many of his players so far.
But Harry Maguire has been one of the surprise packages this tournament, being a rock of stability at the back as well as a potential goal threat from set pieces.
Maguire’s Manchester United team-mate Rashford has also shone, netting three times whilst sitting joint first in the race for the Golden Boot.
But he will face tough competition for his spot with the likes of Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden also on great form.
Ismaila Sarr has seemed to fill the void of Sadio Mane for the Senegalese team, looking like a constant threat up top as well as scoring a cheeky no-look penalty against Ecuador.
Chelsea duo Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly will also be looking to keep out the goals as they hope to advance to the quarter-finals.

Rashford has found his form at the right time
What is the head to head?
This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
England will be looking to continue their unbeaten streak against African nations at the World Cup which has seen them win six and draw three.

Troy Deeney: When Ismaila Sarr is on it, he’s SCARY… I watched Senegal star give Luke Shaw a miserable time for Watford

ISMAILA SARR is not stupid. He will know just how big an opportunity this is.He is mature enough — even at the age of 24 — to realise this game for Senegal against England will be the biggest he has ever played in.
Ismaila Sarr can be too hot to handle when he is in formCredit: AP
Sarr gave Luke Shaw the runaround in the Premier LeagueCredit: Getty
He will be pumped up. He will think: ‘This is my time’.
If he delivers and scores, it will be a really, really difficult watch for Gareth Southgate.
From the moment he joined us at Watford back in the summer of 2019, we knew he was something special at 21 years old.
His blistering pace is frightening. He runs so effortlessly.
    READ MORE ON WORLD CUP

When you are a big guy like me and you can’t run, it is quite disheartening.
He is genuinely a nice bloke, and funny. His English was not great at the start but rather than being embarrassed by it, he made fun of himself which was quite endearing.
At the same time, when Ismaila is on it, he is scary.
I remember watching him in the Europa League for Rennes against Arsenal in the 2018-19 season and he tore them a new one.

He has the ability to do that, especially in his natural position on the flanks. If you play him down the middle, you lose something from his game but he can be deadly on the right or left.
He will cause a lot of problems for England out wide, especially their full-backs.
I remember a match at Vicarage Road against Manchester United in December 2019.
We won 2-0, Ismaila scored and he gave Luke Shaw a miserable time.
He also played up against Shaw and scored in another win at Vicarage Road last season — that 4-1 game that got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the sack.
Harry Maguire played in both of those as well and he was on the back foot the whole time, worried about what was going to be sprinting in behind him.
Ismaila’s motivation will be through the roof… this could be this England defence’s first real testTroy Deeney
It will be the same tomorrow. I would bring in Kyle Walker again from the start, to try and negate that.
Walker can stop any of the best players in the world with his pace.
If we play France in the quarter-finals, Walker is man-marking Kylian Mbappe, mark my words, so this could be good practice for him.
We have got away with dominating the ball in the group stages and the teams up against us have not been able to threaten us in behind.
That will change with Ismaila in the mood.
This could be this defence’s first real test.
I still think we will dominate the ball and it will be us trying to break them down but they will really get at us on the counter.

The transition is going to be key. This will be a tighter game than people think.
Not many have given Senegal the credit they deserve.
They are not a shoddy team. They have lots of Premier League stars.
They won’t fear England and we won’t fear them, so it will be a good game.
Ismaila’s motivation will be through the roof.
With the January window coming up and with Watford in the Championship, we all know he wants to be playing in the Premier League and at World Cups and on these sorts of stages more often.
I still chat to him on Instagram. I drop him a message when he does well and wish him all the best.

He will go on to have an unbelievable career.
I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but heads will turn at the biggest clubs in Europe if he is the star of the show this weekend.

Fans call Granit Xhaka a ‘master of dark arts’ as they spot moment Arsenal star wound up WHOLE Serbia bench at World Cup

GRANIT XHAKA has been labelled a “mentality monster” after getting under the skin of the ENTIRE Serbia bench. Xhaka was in action as Switzerland beat Serbia 3-2 to secure a place in the World Cup last 16, and caused a bust-up after making a gesture towards the Serbia bench.

With Switzerland leading 3-2 during the second half, the Arsenal star then gestured towards the bench by grabbing his NUTS.
It came after Dusan Vlahovic scored in the first half and celebrated by grabbing his nuts to hit back at claims he had an affair with a team-mate’s wife.
Serbia’s camp did not take it well, and stormed on to the pitch.
The game ended with an astonishing 11 yellow cards from both sides, with Serbia picking up five in total after Xhaka’s gesture.

He was then involved AGAIN as he picked up a yellow for a bust-up with Nikola Milenkovic towards the end of the game.
But fans online praised Xhaka’s ability to wind up his opponents.
One user said: “Mentality monster who’s mastered the dark arts without losing his head… he’s unlocked yet another level.”
A second user added: “🤣🤣 Xhaka had them rattled.”

A third declared: “If Xhaka wasn’t a footballer…..he would have been a leader of a Mafia gang.”
A fourth said: “Xhaka you’re a menace. And I love it lol.”
After the game Xhaka told reporters: “You can hear from my voice that I am a bit hoarse but there were a lot of emotions involved tonight.
“But in general it was fair enough because we wanted to win this game and we are very proud to be in the round of 16.”
Serbia and Switzerland have some bad blood between them regarding the ethnic heritage of some of Swiss players.
Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri have previously celebrated using the Albanian Eagle – the nationalist symbol of their ethnic heritage.
Shaqiri was born in Kosovo (a former Serbian province which declared independence in 2008).
Serbia does not recognise Kosovo’s independence and relations remain tense with many families choosing to move to other European counties including Switzerland.

Xhaka celebrated at the end of the match wearing the shirt of young Swiss sub Ardon Jashiri, who just happens to share a surname with the famous Kosovan freedom fighter Adem Jashiri, who was killed by the Serbs.
But Xhaka insisted: “There was nothing political at all. I was just showing my happiness for my young team-mate.” More

Jack Grealish’s dad vows to keep wearing his ‘lucky’ Union Jack waistcoat to take England to World Cup glory

JACK Grealish’s dad has vowed to continue wearing his ‘lucky’ Union Flag waistcoat to take England to World Cup glory.Madcap Kevin left his famous son squirming by cheering on the Three Lions in Qatar wearing a garish outfit in the stands.

Jack joked: ‘What’s he doing with that? I said ‘what are you wearing there?’’Credit: Facebook
But the proud father is unmoved by Jack’s pleas to leave behind the inspirational attire – and will “100%” be donning the patriotic kit tomorrow.
The mortified Manchester City £100m star laughed: “What’s he doing with that? I said ‘what are you wearing there?’.
“He had a little bow-tie as well but my mum told him to take it off – I don’t know where he’s got it from, it looks like something from the market, doesn’t it?”
But Kevin’s £100 waistcoat – specially made by an independent retailer near his Solihull home – will be back on display in the knock-out clash between England and Senegal.

The Union Flag themed bow tie was an extra £20 and Kevin will keep it on after attending all of England’s three Group B games in which Jack and his team-mates remained unbeaten.
Along with his parents, the midfielder’s sister Hollie, who has cerebral palsy, has travelled out to lend her support.
Jack, 27, performed a special celebration for an 11-year-old fan called Finlay after scoring his first-ever World Cup goal against Iran in England’s first game of the tournament.
Dan McHale, the assistant manager at Kevin’s tailor Bentley’s, told of their special commission last night.

He said: “Kevin came in a few days before he flew out to Qatar and picked it up. He was absolutely delighted with it. I think it’s definitely something the cameras can pick up on.”
Kevin’s natty look is in stark contrast to Jack’s fashion sense, which landed him a seven-figure tie-up with Gucci earlier this year.
England fan John Gadd said last night: “I’ll be wearing my lucky underpants watching England and everyone needs to do their bit – including Kevin Grealish. Good on him and let’s hope it takes us to World Cup glory.”

England star John Stones says Three Lions are ‘in it to win it’ after 56 years of World Cup hurt

ENGLAND star John Stones laid bare the Three Lions’ hunger to end 56 years of World Cup hurt last night and roared: “We are in it to win it!”Centre back John, 28, poured out his pain at losing the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia followed by last year’s Euro 2020 penalties heartbreak against Italy.

But he promised England fans the team is focused and ready to play their hearts out to lift our first trophy since 1966.
The Manchester City star tapped into growing belief that Gareth Southgate’s side are now among the favourites to go all the way to the final in Qatar – and win it.
And he revealed England’s agonising last ditch failures at the last two tournaments are driving the squad toward glory.
He said: “It is a big motivation for the team, 100 percent.

“I always aim for the highest thing to win the competition – I have always said we are in it to win it is my belief is that we can do it.
“We need to think about everything we have done, our ambitions and where this can take us.
“Coming so close twice now, especially the last tournament, you never want to go through that feeling again.
“It is probably more than likely I will through my career, so I cannot get my head around that but I always want to do better than the last time.
    Most read in Football
“Getting fourth in a World Cup was incredible where we came from but we need to better that and some more.
“In 2018 it was a success in terms of uniting the nation and everyone loving English football again – but you look back and we were so close.
“I never want to go through that again.
“As a team, as a fan, this is something you dream of as a kid, and we never want to feel that way again.
“We have to better what we did last time, that is the long and short of it.”
John also revealed the team had been practising penalty shoot-outs in a bid to banish the spot kick hoodoo which has haunted England teams for decades.
Southgate is understood to have ordered psychological training to steel his men for the intense pressure to come if games go to dreaded shoot-outs in the knockout stages.
The star – a key rock in a solid defence which has conceded just two goals in Qatar – said: “Four years ago we won our first shoot out and then in Euros it did not work out.
“So we have done a lot of work on penalties and the fine details of it and working on individual needs, sometimes people have to step up and it is trying to find comfort in that environment.
“You have to get used to being uncomfortable and for lads like me going through the process of what you need to be clinical at that time.”
John stressed England were not underestimating Sunday’s West African Last 16 opponents Senegal – and were desperate to make fans in Qatar and back home proud.
He said: “We have come through these three games in a difficult group and in a World Cup, anything can happen.

“We have already seen big upsets, and we do not want to take anything for granted, and always respect the opposition and we will do that.
“It has been a great journey for all of us as a nation – we want to make everyone proud.”
