Raheem Sterling vows ‘I won’t go back to the World Cup until my family is safe’ after terrifying raid on his mansion

DISTRAUGHT Raheem Sterling has vowed he will only return to England’s World Cup campaign when his family are “safe”.The Three Lions ace’s mansion was targeted by a gang who stole £300,000 worth of watches and designer jewellery — he is said to be the fourth Chelsea FC player hit by them in recent months.

Police understand his fiancee Paige, 27, discovered the raid on Saturday night, less than 24 hours before England’s clash with Senegal on Sunday.
Raheem, also 27, pulled out of Gareth Southgate’s squad and dashed home after learning of the terror raid. He is hoping to return to Qatar for Saturday’s quarter final against France — but only if he thinks his home is secured and his family are not at risk.
A source said: “Raheem has told everyone, ‘There is no way I’m going anywhere unless I’m 100 per cent sure that my family can be kept safe’. He is security conscious and part of the reason they moved into the property was that it is on a very exclusive estate, with regular security patrols.
“Despite this, he has still managed to be targeted, which is very upsetting for Raheem and Paige. They have just moved back to London and want to feel safe.”

The family moved into the property in Oxshott, Surrey, after Chelsea paid Man City £47.5 million for the winger this summer.
    ‘Patrol night and day’
It is understood Paige returned to the UK from Qatar with his three young children after cheering on Raheem in the group stages.
She had a work commitment related to her property firm. Yesterday, Raheem met with detectives from Surrey Police who are investigating the crime.
One of the other Chelsea victims defender Reece James, 22, was raided by a gang who targeted his home in Cobham, Surrey, in September 2021. They stole his safe containing his Champions League, Super Cup and Euro 2020 medals.

Two other teammates have also suffered similar crimes in recent months, with cops now looking into potential links.
It is feared a highly organised criminal gang has the club’s wealthy players in its sights. Yesterday, England ace Harry Maguire blasted the thugs who targeted Raheem.
Man United star Harry, 29, said: “It’s extremely disappointing to hear that when we are out here playing for our country and giving everything there are people back home targeting us.
“The game could have gone different and we might have needed Raheem.”
And England skipper Harry Kane, also 29, was yesterday helping to calm his teammates worried by the raid.
A Three Lions source said: “Harry knows the players’ families are really shaken up by what has happened and that is a worry for the players themselves.
“He sees it as his job as skipper to keep the morale of the team up and to focus everyone on the France match.”
England manager Gareth Southgate said he and the FA had discussed security arrangements with the squad prior to leaving for Qatar.
Harry knows the players’ families are really shaken up by what has happened and that is a worry for the players themselves. A Three Lions source
When asked if the FA had offered to increase security, he said: “We had offered that to players. I think there’s a little bit [for Raheem] in the midst of moving house that played a part in that.”
And other Wags have offered Paige their support. Meanwhile, Raheem plans to beef up security at his home once the police have finished their investigations.
A source said: “He has got a firm on standby to go straight in to install 24/7 security with enhanced infra red night vision. He’s looking to get dozens of cameras installed.
“And he’s going to employ a security firm to patrol his house night and day, and will keep them in place until the World Cup is over. All the jewellery of value has since been removed from the house to a safe deposit place.”

Last night, a security guard provided by Chelsea FC stood watch outside the house.
Police said no arrests had yet been made. More

Chaos as South Korea manager Paulo Bento QUITS after 4-1 Brazil loss… but spokesperson claims he was mistranslated

PAULO Bento has left his post as South Korea’s manager after their 4-1 defeat by Brazil.Bento, 53, has been in charge of the South Korea national team since 2018.

He won 35 of his 57 matches in charge, but South Korea suffered a disappointing quarter-final exit at the 2019 Asian Cup and could not upset the odds against Brazil.
Following that defeat, Bento said: “I have just announced to the players and the president of the federation that this is a decision I took in September.
“It is set in stone and I have confirmed it. I have to thank everyone for everything they have done.”
He added: “From now onwards we have to think about the future. I’m going to rest and we have to see what will happen after I rest.

“We have to congratulate Brazil because they were better than us.”
However a spokesperson from the South Korea federation reportedly intervened during the press conference to deny Bento had quit.
He claimed the Portuguese was just taking a rest and considering his future, but it appears Bento has actually left his role.
Bento becomes the third manager to leave his job at the World Cup following Roberto Martinez’s resignation as Belgium boss.

South Korea progressed to the last-16 after dramatically beating Portugal in their final group game.
But they failed to replicate that shock and were blown away by a Brazil side who turned on the samba flair.

TAKEHIRO TOMIYASU looked open-mouthed with surprise and sympathy when he learned Arsenal pal Gabriel Jesus’ World Cup was over. The Japan right-back reacted touchingly with a string of questions as he was told Brazil striker Jesus had suffered a serious knee injury.

Tomiyasu was preparing for Monday’s last-16 clash with Croatia, where he played the whole 120 minutes of a 1-1 draw before Japan exited 3-1 on penalties.
He was unaware Jesus could need surgery and sit out three months – rocking their club’s chances of retaining their lead in the Premier League.
When asked about the former Manchester City frontman. Tomiyasu replied: “I don’t know – he has got injured? Jesus? Oh, I didn’t know that.
“Really? Because I watched only the first half – and then he was injured in the second half?

“It’s bad. Where is this? Knees? Oh, it’s a shame because obviously to play in the World Cup is a big dream for us, for every football player.
“So I’m sorry for him but hopefully he will be back soon.”
Jesus sustained his nasty knock in last Friday’s 1-0 group loss to Cameroon.
But Brazil certainly didn’t miss him as they swept aside South Korea with a 4-1 blitz in the last 16 on Monday.

Meet Kylian Mbappé, the £100m striker who’s England’s World Cup ‘enemy number one’ and can sprint like Usain Bolt

IF England are going to win the World Cup they need to stop the quickest, most expensive and deadliest striker on the planet – Kylian Mbappe. The top scorer in Qatar can challenge Usain Bolt for pace and has raked in more than £100million this year.

And the 23-year-old powerhouse is so important to France that President Emmanuel Macron begged him not to quit Paris St Germain for Real Madrid this summer.
But he is far from infallible.
Booed at this year’s Ballon d’Or football awards ceremony in Paris, the divisive young star has chinks in his armour, on and off the pitch.
Mbappe has missed a couple of crucial penalties, including one that saw France crash out of Euro 2020.
    READ MORE ON MBAPPE
He has reportedly fallen out with teammates, developed a Ronaldo-like superiority complex, demanded the use of private jets and has been accused of hypocrisy.

Mbappe made several ethical stands while at the same time turning down the move to Real Madrid this summer, after Paris St Germain’s Qatari owners — who are linked to alleged human rights abuses — offered him £156million to stay at the club.
This was a player who organised a national-team revolt against sponsorship by the fast food firm KFC and French gambling website BetClic.
Such double standards tarnished the image of a sporting genius who, during the 2018 World Cup final, high-fived an anti-Putin pitch invader from Russian protest group Pussy Riot in front of the despotic Russian president — a gesture for which he deserved a lot of credit. Mbappe also gave all his earnings from that controversial tournament to charity.

    Chelsea trial
Prior to the even more tarnished World Cup in Qatar, he said: “I want to be more than just the guy who shoots the ball and goes to his yacht and takes his money.
“Sometimes people think I have to just play football. But I think not. I think the world has changed.’’
Mbappe was born in the troubled Parisian suburb of Bondy, to Cameroonian dad Wilfried, a football coach, and mum Fayza, a handball player of Algerian heritage.
At six Mbappe witnessed disaffected youths torching patrol cars as they rioted against police harassment. But his parents knew from early on that their son had the talent to escape such problems.
By the time he was 11 a host of top teams wanted him to join their youth sides, with Real Madrid and Manchester City among them.
He had a trial for Chelsea three years later, but the club wanted him to return for a second try-out because they weren’t convinced by his willingness to defend.
Mbappe’s forceful mum Fayza, now 48, reportedly told the scout: “My boy won’t be coming back. If they want him, they have to take him now or in five years’ time they will be coming back to buy him for €50million (£43million).”
And some say that insult still rings in his ears today. A family friend said: “It’s quite possible that Kylian himself has a bit of a downer on what was said about him in England all those years ago.
“This might well give him a bit of extra determination to beat the English on Saturday.” With the Premier League ruled out, in 2015 Mbappe’s dad, now acting as his agent, decided he should sign with Monaco instead — which happens to be a tax haven. The young star received a signing bonus of £345,000.
Five years ago his mum almost convinced him to sign for Liverpool because she was a fan of the Merseyside team, but instead he decided to join PSG in France for £166million.
Leaked documents revealed Mbappe asked for 50 hours of private plane use every year as part of the deal.
In Paris he showed how quick he could be, clocking up speeds of 23mph during one match.
That’s very close to the 26mph that Usain Bolt reached in his world record-breaking 100m sprint in 2009.
But what turned Mbappe into a global sports star at the age of 19 was when he became only the second teenager to score in a World Cup final, when France beat Croatia 4-2.
He was named the young player of the tournament for his four-goal tally.
After that, Mbappe was linked to a string of models such as French beauty Emma Smet and Belgian catwalk star Rose Bertram, but he preferred not to talk about his love life.
That is perhaps understandable, given the vile abuse he received from rival fans at this World Cup. Argentinian supporters in Qatar made rude references to him and a transgender model called Ines Rau, with whom he was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival this summer.

Mbappe has spent a fortune on a string of flash cars, including two Ferraris, and a huge apartment in Paris. At the same time he has set up a charitable foundation that aims to help 98 children — a nod to his birth year, 1998 — to achieve their dreams in fields such as maths.
He also congratulated England star Marcus Rashford on his efforts to give more free school meals to British children.
But that campaigning streak has caused tension during this World Cup. Mbappe did not want to be photographed near the tournament sponsor Budweiser’s logo because he disapproves of alcohol and he has refused to give media interviews.
Such demands would perhaps have more impact if it wasn’t for the fact that Paris St Germain are bankrolled by Qatar.
The oil and gas-rich nation has been criticised for locking up homosexuals and treating foreign workers so poorly that more than 6,000 are estimated to have died while working on the infrastructure for the 2022 World Cup.
    Witch doctor
Mbappe has not uttered a word against his club’s paymasters, who view him as their poster boy.
This year he has also been caught up in an explosive row between France teammate Paul Pogba and his brother Mathias.
There were wild claims by Mathias that midfielder Paul had used a witch doctor to put a curse on Mbappe. Mathias tweeted to Mbappe: “It’s never good to have a hypocrite and a traitor near you.”
There are also rumours that Mbappe has lobbied against the tactics at PSG, who again failed to reach this year’s Champions League final, and campaigned for Brazilian superstar teammate Neymar to leave.
When Mbappe missed a penalty in August the pair argued after another spot-kick was awarded by the referee.
Legendary French midfielder Emmanuel Petit hit out at Mbappe, saying: “He annoys everyone today. He makes it personal all the time.
“He even puts himself above the institution. Has everything that has happened in recent months gone to his head?”

The youngster denies interfering in team affairs, saying: ‘’That’s not my job. I don’t want to do this because I’m not good at it. I’m good on the pitch.”
What he doesn’t deny is wanting to join Real Madrid and holding contract negotiations with the Champions League title holders.
That led to him being barracked by PSG fans on more than one occasion.
But Macron rang the star striker to change his mind.
The President told him: ‘I want you to stay. I don’t want you to leave now. You are so important for the country.’
Throughout the protracted negotiations Mbappe has his mum standing in his corner.
After one journalist dared to say her son had reneged on the Real deal, she tweeted to him: ‘When we don’t know, we shut up.’
Coming into this World Cup he certainly had a lot to prove.
His tame spot kick in a crucial shoot-out against Switzerland in the Euros last summer meant that France crashed out.
Understandably, Mbappe was outraged by the racist hatred he received for missing the penalty.
So much so he even considered quitting the national side, saying: “I cannot play for people who think I’m a monkey”.
In Qatar, Mbappe has shut up his critics and the bigots.
Having scored five goals in this tournament, including two unstoppable efforts against Poland this week, the forward now has netted nine times at a World Cup.
That’s more than legends Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
It’s not surprising that France’s sports newspaper L’Equipe had a headline ahead of the quarter-final against Gareth Southgate’s side declaring “God save Notre King” alongside a photo of Mbappe.

Incredible poll reveals 70% of Portugal fans want Cristiano Ronaldo DROPPED for World Cup last 16 clash vs Switzerland

AN incredible 70 per cent of Portugal fans want Cristiano Ronaldo dropped for their last-16 World Cup tie versus Switzerland. A poll has been ran by Portuguese newspaper A Bola who have revealed the shock statistic.

The outlet simply asked their readers if he should start with two options “yes or no” and the overwhelming majority have said the latter.
Ronaldo has been heavily criticised at the World Cup and fans appear to have had enough.
Some of A Bola’s readers responded to the poll to fire shots at their main man.
One fan said: “What is the reason, why have you been a starter? He wasn’t a starter at the club, he’s not in shape, he says he wants to fight for titles, but every seven days he’s sick.”

Another wrote: “He shouldn’t have even been called up after everything that happened at Manchester United.”
One even joked he is past his best saying “this is no longer CR7, it’s CR37” in relation to his age.
Some did defend Ronaldo however: “Everyone wants to see him fall… but in Portugal we have a leader, a champion, a winner. His World Cup will start now.”

Portugal topped their group after wins over Ghana and Uruguay before a loss to South Korea.
And their legendary striker has been at the centre of controversy at the tournament following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan and his departure from United.
Ronaldo scored in the victory over Ghana but was accused of diving to win his penalty and against Uruguay he claimed he scored but Fifa said Bruno Fernandes’ cross didn’t touch his head.

Brazil 4 South Korea 1: Richarlison, Neymar & Vinicius Jr turn on samba style in sensational first half to KO Koreans

WHEN Richarlison said Brazil had ten celebration dance routines planned he clearly wasn’t joking. And at one stage in this last 16 tie it seemed like we might get treated to them all in one evening as Brazil set up a quarter-final tie with Croatia.

As it was they settled for four. But had they really wanted to, you got the impression they could have reached double figures.
This was the World Cup Brazil we all dream of seeing. The one which took you back to flashes of Pele and Jairzinho, of Zico and Socrates, of Ronaldo and Rivaldo.
It was Harlem Globetrotters in boots. It was Now That’s What I Call Football It was the Beautiful Game like we hadn’t seen before in Qatar.
And it wasn’t just the goals – although some of them were mind-blowingly magnificent.

It was the side dishes like Neymar’s drag back which didn’t just confuse Hwang In-beom and Cho Gue-sung, it even had referee Clement Turpin going the wrong way.
At one stage the camera flashed to the VVIP section, and Brazilian legends Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Cafu were looking down. Even they were in awe and applauding.
To think some people had doubted whether the current crop in the most famous football shirt of all were the real deal. Well doubt no more.
Six minutes was all it took to get the party started, courtesy of a Barcelona star.

Raphinha put Hwang and namesake Hee-chan on their backsides with a delightful shimmy down the flank, before drilling a low cross into the box.
Proof, you could say, that two Hwangs don’t make it right.
Neymar – yes, the Greatest Showman made his return from damaged ankle ligaments – arrived and the 974 Stadium held its breath. Only to exhale at a side-footed air shot.
No matter, for there, beyond the far post was the newest show-stealing member of the Selecao.
The one they all reckon will be wearing Neymar’s crown before too long.
Neymar played superbly against South Korea
Maybe even before this tournament is over, given the cool, dead-eyed way Vinicius Jr took a touch, had a look…and clipped it past four defenders and the keeper into the corner.
Cue dance routine number one, a little Samba line dance near the deadball line. They were only just getting their eye in and the toe-tapping warmed up.
Seven minutes later they were at it again, this time with a goal everyone – bar the little South Korean version of the Barmy Army behind one goal – wanted to see.
Richarlison’s speed of thought and fleet of foot got him in front of Jung Woo-young, and the Korean’s attempted boot clear was, instead, a boot to the back of a Brazilian.
Raphinha picked up the ball yet was almost waiting for Neymar to stroll up and take it off him. He duly did, to a delighted round of applause from his fans.
Casemiro covered much of the pitch in the last-16 game
A stutter, a stagger, and keeper Kim Seung-gyu was on his knees as the ball almost apologetically rolled into the net.
Celebration number two, a slight variation on the first, but definitely a different version. The best was still to come…in every respect.
For after half an hour we got the sort of moment which, if you had to come up with a caricature of all Brazil stand for, would be this.
Richarlison played head tennis to start it, before slipping it to Marquinhos, still lurking in the Korean box from a corner.
He pinged it to centre-back pal Thiago Silva, whose instant touch teed up Richarlison to finish low beyond Kim.
This time the celebrations saw him race to the sidelines, where 61-year-old coach Tite joined in with a bizarre chicken dance. It was clucking marvellous.
Yet still they weren’t finished, and still we weren’t even at half time. This time Vini jr, scorer of the first, was creator of the fourth, with the most deliberate of stood-up deliveries.

Lucas Paqueta was in acres of space, buried his volley low into the corner, and set off on a solo Samba before his team-mates arrived to turn it into more of a convoluted conga.
It was mind-blowing…and for a Korean team looking ever heavy-legged from the hard-fought battle against Portugal three days earlier, it was merciless.
It was also a tad rub-their-noses-in-it when third-choice keeper Weverton – the only one in the squad without any action before last night – replaced Alisson for the last ten minutes.
Mind you, for all it was a done deal inside half an hour, Alisson did actually have to earn his money, with no less than FOUR stunning stops.

As it is, he was eventually beaten by a piledriver from substitute Paik Seung-ho, but by then it mattered not a jot.
It was game, set and match long before. The boys are definitely back in town…and heavens, they’re going to take some stopping. More

After Richarlison dispatched a stunning team goal, the Tottenham striker rushed over to the technical area where Tite and the Brazil subs were waiting for him.
Once he arrived and got into the circle, the group then started celebrating together with Richarlison’s signature “Pigeon dance” with Tite kicking it off by bopping his shoulders.
He was quick to stop and get back to his bench and was enveloped by shoulder and head pats after joining in.
However, ITV co-commentator Ally McCoist was left unimpressed by the moves, jokingly saying: “Ah, he’s going to have to work on it (his moves).”

Indeed, keeping with Samba tradition there was a dance after every goal they scored.
But former Manchester United captain Roy Keane did not enjoy the dancing, and insisted it was “disrespectful” to South Korea.
Speaking on ITV, he said: “I don’t like this. People say it’s their culture. But I think that’s really disrespecting the opposition.
“It’s four goals, and they are doing it every time.
“I don’t mind so much the first jig, it’s the one after that, and the manager getting involved. I’m not happy about it. I don’t think it’s good at all.”
Tite has been in charge of Brazil since 2016 and won the Copa America in 2019.
Now he is hoping to guide Brazil to World Cup glory and collect a sixth star and their first since 2002.
The Last 16 clash against South Korea has seen Samba talisman Neymar return to the starting xi after there were fears he could miss the remainder of the tournament.
