Jordan Pickford ushered away a camera operator who was filming Harry Kane’s agony
Kane was devastated after missing a penalty in England’s defeat to France
It saw the defending champs cling on for a 2-1 win, setting up a semi-final against Morocco.
And devastated England players, including Kane, were overcome with emotion at the final whistle.
One camera operator decided to get a close-up of skipper Kane, who scored a penalty earlier on, as he leaned on his haunches with his head in his hands.
But teammate Pickford was having none of it.

The goalkeeper angrily span around when he realised what was going on.
And he forced the camera operator to walk away from Kane with a wave of his hands while saying: “A bit of respect, please.”
Pickford himself came under the spotlight earlier in the game.
That’s after conceding a long-range shot from Aurelien Tchouameni after just 17 minutes.

It prompted no-nonsense pundit Roy Keane to criticise Pickford’s efforts between the sticks.
He said: “Brilliant strike, keeper could he do better? Yeah, I think so.”
But fans were divided over Keane’s analysis of Pickford.
One said: “Agree with Keane, Pickford could do better. Could move his feet quicker and get across.”
Another quipped: “I just know Roy Keane is fuming at Jordan Pickford not saving that.
“And he’d be right, because Pickford should be saving that.”
One countered: “Let’s see Roy do better.”
Another added: “How’s keane blaming pickford for that? This guy is miserable.” More

Tottenham superstar Kane had the chance to equalise with another spot-kick but sent the ball way over the crossbar.

Fuming England fans convinced France goal shouldn’t count after challenge on Saka in build up

ENGLAND fans were left raging after VAR failed to intervene to check a potential foul on Bukayo Saka in the build-up to France’s opener goal.Aurelien Tchouameni broke the deadlock against Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions in the World Cup quarter-final after just 17 minutes in their eventual 2-1 victory.

The midfielder unleashed a beautiful strike from 25 yards that went through the legs of Jude Bellingham, meaning Jordan Pickford only saw it very late as he failed to keep it out.
England were on the attack when Arsenal attacker Saka was clattered by Dayot Upamecano.
No foul was given and France quickly broke as the Three Lions scrambled to get back, but ultimately Tchouameni’s strike proved too good to be stopped.
Further VAR frustration followed when Harry Kane was denied a penalty moments afterwards, but it was the decision not to rule out France’s goal that had most supporters up in arms.

One Tweeted: “What a bull***t France goal.. coming from a foul against Saka that was not given. Absolute joke.”
Another said: “Clear foul on saka, what a joke.”
And even the much-loved pundit Chris Kamara fumed: “Foul not given on Saka but what a strike. Good game to win now.”
As tensions mounted, another wrote: “Foul on Saka for the French goal & a 100% penalty on Kane. This is a scandal.”

And England legend Gary Lineker commented: “One of these days, just once, we might get a decision in our favour.”
He then added later: “One hundred percent foul on Saka. One hundred percent penalty on Kane.”
ITV pundit Gary Neville said at half time: “It’s not excuses. It’s a simple decision. He just kicks his leg away and I’m not sure why it’s not a foul.
“He’s nibbling and nibbling and it should have been a free-kick.”
Roy Keane agreed and said: “It should be a foul.”

The match was being shown live on ITV, and former Premier League ref Peter Walton said on their coverage that he did not believe it was a foul and stated that the 21-year-old had gone down too easily.”
But fortunately for England the referee did see sense moments after the restart when Saka was sent tumbling in the area by Tchouameni.
And Kane kept his cool after a lengthy delay to fire the Three Lions level.

Heroic captain Kane blazed his second spot-kick over the bar – blowing the chance to draw England level and send the game to extra-time.
That was after he had scored an earlier penalty to equal Wayne Rooney’s record as the country’s all-time top scorer.
And after the whistle he slumped to the turf in a crouched position and brought a hand over his face as he struggled to get to grips with England’s exit.
A number of his heartbroken colleagues raced over to him while manager Southgate, who famously missed a penalty at Euro ‘96, also gave him a hug and offered some words to his talisman.

France goalie Hugo Lloris, a team-mate of Kane’s at Tottenham, also went to console the striker before the Three Lions skipper trudged off towards the dressing-room.
England keeper Jordan Pickford was also spotted ushering a cameraman away as they tried to get close and film Kane in his moment of despair.
Elsewhere, teenage midfield sensation Jude Bellingham was in tears and his new pal Jordan Henderson was forced to put an arm around his shoulder to comfort him.
The Borussia Dortmund man was then spotted still crying as he too headed down the tunnel.

Henderson was the first star to brave the cameras, telling ITV: “It is hard now to sum it up, it is hard to find the right words.
“I thought we gave everything in the game, we were disappointed to go 1-0 down but we showed the character and mentality to keep going and find the equaliser.
“We gave it everything and unfortunately it wasn’t our night.”
And on Kane’s penalty miss, he added: “We know how many penalties Harry has scored for us, how many goals he has contributed to even get us here.
“He will be stronger for this in the future. He is a world-class striker and our captain, he will bounce back.”
Southgate about Kane: “He’s been incredible for us and so reliable in these situations. And we wouldn’t be here without him.
“In the end goals are decisive but I’ve said to the players that I don’t think they could have given anymore.
    Match report By David Kidd
EVERYTHING was on the line – a World Cup semi-final against Morocco, the chance to dethrone champions France, and England’s all-time goalscoring record.
Harry Kane, who had roused England after an early French opener, and already thumped home one spot-kick to equal Wayne Rooney’s 53 goals, took a deep breath, stepped up and ballooned it over the bar.
After a World Cup semi-final in Russia in 2018, and a Euros final loss to Italy last year, this cruel quarter-final was technically a step backwards.
But England have been excellent in four of their five games in Qatar – including this one, where they outplayed France for long periods.
After Aurelien Tchouameni’s early opener, they went for the French jugular and dominated until Kane’s spot-kick equaliser.
Then, a desperate late double blow – a headed winner from Olivier Giroud, followed Kane’s sky-high penalty.
It was agony for Southgate and his team – especially with such an inviting semi-final opponent.
Yet this, like most elite games, was one of those ‘fine margins’ – first Harry Maguire allowing Giroud his close-range header, then Kane fluffing the biggest moment of his career.
Southgate had decided as early as last Monday to name an unchanged team – there was no thought about applying that infamous Southgate handbrake.
And Kyle Walker, the man who would mark Mbappe, was adamant that they wouldn’t ‘roll out the red carpet’ and allow France ‘a night at the theatre’.
The pre-match atmosphere was subdued – as it so often is at this weird tournament where there have been so relatively few partisan travelling supporters from all but a handful of nations.
Yet despite plenty of bravado in the build-up England began tentatively – both full-backs, Walker and Luke Shaw, looking especially vulnerable.
And then Mbappe – speak of the devil, as we’d been doing all week got to work.
He turned Declan Rice, darted infield and when Antoine Griezmann laid it back, Tchouameni steered a low shot into the far corner from 20 yards.
Jordan Pickford probably should have saved it, any number of England players might have prevented but the champions were swaggering and France were ahead.
It was the first time England had been behind this tournament but it jolted them into action – Kane in particular.
After the break, Southgate’s men were straight back at it.
Bellingham, who had just been the victim of a horrible lunge from Ousmane Dembele, fizzed a shot from 20 yards which Lloris tipped over.
The equaliser had been well signposted and it was England’s two youngest starters who engineered it – Saka playing a one-two with Bellingham drawing the foul from Tchouameni.
The ref did not hesitate and after Kane had re-spotted the ball, he thudded into the corner, sending Lloris the wrong way.
But just as England has responded aggressively to France’s goal, the reverse was true now.
Saka was causing more mischief to France than Mbappe was to England. When the Arsenal man won a free-kick, Henderson delivered and Harry Maguire’s header brushed against the post.
But when Shaw lost Dembele, he nodded down for Giroud to unleash a close-range volley which forced Pickford into a fine save.
England never fully cleared the resulting corner and when Griezmann delivered a wicked cross, Giroud got in front of Maguire to thud home a header which gave Pickford no chance.
Mason Mount arrived and almost immediately was barged over in the box by Theo Hernandez, the VAR sent Sampaio to his monitor.
But Kane stepped up and blazed it into the Gods.

England 1 France 2: Brave Three Lions crash out of World Cup in quarter-finals as Kane misses heartbreaking late penalty

England’s captain was devastated and England’s dreams turned to dust in this desert moonscape north of Doha.
And so Kane, such a phenomenal goalscorer, looks destined to end up as ‘nearly man’.
Just as Gareth Southgate’s England team seem to be condemned to the same fate.

Yet this, like most elite games, was one of those ‘fine margins’ – first Harry Maguire allowing Giroud his close-range header, then Kane fluffing the biggest moment of his career.
In rugby they call this fixture ‘Le Crunch’ but this one had far higher stakes than any Six Nations match.
And, if it was possible, then Morocco’s stunning victory over Portugal had cranked up the pressure even higher.
Draws have a habit of opening up alluringly for Southgate, over three tournaments, and here were a pack of rank underdogs waiting in the semis.
And while facing the world champions was a rare exception, France were without their Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema as well as Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante.

It was the first time England had been behind this tournament but it jolted them into action – Kane in particular.

A sweet Saka reverse-pass found Kane, who out-muscled Dayot Upamecano on the turn, and attempted to lift his shot over his Tottenham team-mate Hugo Lloris, who saved smartly with his body.
Kane, though, was in bull-in-china-shop mode and when he burst past Upamecano again, there was a tangle of legs and a VAR check.

England were convinced but neither Brazilian ref Wilton Sampaio nor his VAR were moved – it looked like a trip, but the contact may have started outside the area by a fag paper.
Kane, a wronged man desperate for payback, leathered one from 25 yards and Lloris flung himself to turn it wide.
This was more like it from England, the French looked rattled.
After the break, Southgate’s men were straight back at it.
Bellingham, who had just been the victim of a horrible lunge from Ousmane Dembele, fizzed a shot from 20 yards which Lloris tipped over.

Suddenly Adrien Rabiot was clean through, the England defence caught with legs akimbo, but Pickford pushed away his fierce drive.
Mbappe turned on the after-burners and out-paced Walker but Dembele couldn’t get a touch on his centre.
It was a wide-open, toe-to-toe slugfest now. Griezmann, already booked, was lucky to stay on after a tactical foul on a scurrying Phil Foden.
Saka was causing more mischief to France than Mbappe was to England. When the Arsenal man won a free-kick, Henderson delivered and Harry Maguire’s header brushed against the post.
But when Shaw lost Dembele, he nodded down for Giroud to unleash a close-ramge volley which forced Pickford into a fine save.

    Pickford protects Kane
Jordan Pickford ushered away a camera operator as they tried to film Harry Kane’s penalty agony.
The England captain missed a late spot-kick to equalise in Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against France.

    Kane fights back tears
Harry Kane had to fight back the tears after England crashed out of the World Cup against France.
Gareth Southgate’s side were defeated 2-1 as Les Bleus clinched their place in the semi-final.

Captain Kane blew a late opportunity to draw England level and send the game to extra-time when he blazed a spot-kick over the bar.
    England are out
    It’s all over.
Our World Cup dream is over, as we lose to France 2-1.
Things didn’t go our way, and Kane’s missed penalty sadly made the difference in the end.
    Noooo!
After VAR rightly gave England a penalty for a shove on Mason Mount, Harry Kane has missed it.
The Spurs man blazed over the bar in a dramatic fashion – putting his hands to face.
The French celebrated. Let’s keep going.
    Giroud to the double
Olivier Giroud puts France 2-1 up with a bullet header.
It was a sublime cross from Antione Griezmann and the former Arsenal striker has buried it, via a deflection off Harry Maguire.

    We’re level
Harry Kane from the penalty spot – and we’re all square.
Saka went on a mazy run and was brought down in the box. Clear as day.
After a bit of gamesmanship, Kane fired home.
    Game on!
    Big 45 now
England have 45 minutes to stay in the World Cup.
The Three Lions have played well – but trail by a goal to nil.
    Come on England!

    France lead
Aurélien Tchouaméni has fired France ahead from 30-yards.
England complain of a foul the other end on Saka, but France progressed with the ball before the young Real Madrid midfielder fired him.
All to do now for the Three Lions.
    Santos set for axe
Portugal manager Fernando Santos’s future is up in the air.
Fabrizio Romano has reported he said: “Tomorrow I will fly to Lisbon and we will discuss with the president about my future, as always”.
Expectation is that Santos will be sacked.
    Flat ball
England’s World Cup quarter-final against France had to be halted after a matter of moments… due to a flat ball.
Players almost immediately complained of a flat ball, causing officials to provide a new one with not even a minute played.
England centre-half Harry Maguire was the one to knock the ball out of play to request a new one.
The game resumed and the focus was back on the last eight match, with a place in the semis against Morocco awaiting the winner.
    Ronaldo’s pitch invader
Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup journey almost ended with him being apprehended by a pitch invader.
The teary striker saw Portugal crash out of Qatar 2022 with a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Morocco.

Ronnie, 37, was dropped for the second straight game by boss Fernando Santos.
And he was unable to make an impact when he came off the bench as Morocco became the first-ever African side to reach the World Cup semis.
Ronaldo, who also had WATER thrown at him by a spectator, couldn’t believe his Middle Eastern journey was at an end.
He proceeded to blubber as he stormed off down the tunnel at the final whistle.
    England’s Wags ready
England Wags Sasha Attwood, Megan Davison and Anouska Santos looked game-ready as they kitted themselves out in England shirts.
They all posed for the camera and looked positive ahead of the crunch quarter-final clash against France.

    England team named
England remain unchanged for their World Cup quarter-final against reigning champions France.
Gareth Southgate has kept Bukayo Saka – his joint tournament top scorer – alongside Phil Foden on the flanks.

They are either side of skipper Harry Kane, who got off the mark in England’s 3-0 last 16 win against Senegal.
    Ronaldo’s tears
Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears as Portugal were dumped out of the World Cup by Morocco following a shock win.
The axed Manchester United star came off the bench in the second half having been left out for the second game in a row.

But Ronaldo was unable to inspire his side back to level terms as Youssef En-Nesyri’s 42 minute opener settled the side.
For Morocco, they made history as the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final.
But for Ronaldo, it was heartbreak as he failed in what he warned would be his final crack at football’s greatest prize.
The legendary forward, 37, squandered a late chance in added time but his right-footed effort was drilled low into keeper Yassine Bounou’s hands.
    De Jong slams Fernandes
Nigel De Jong hit out at Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes for going to ground too easily.
De Jong, a Premier League winner with City, took aim at Fernandes for his repeated offences of hitting the deck.
He said on ITV: “You could see who was at the end of it and who is laying on the floor again. We all see back in UK watching the Premier League.
“Fernandes has a feeling of going to the ground in circumstances and situations like this.
“It was not enough to give it as a penalty especially in the moment of the game like that.
“The referee made a good call and the VAR made a great call.”
    Full-time
Morocco are through to the semi-final of the World Cup after defeating Portugal 1-0.
They are the first African nation to reach the semi-final of the competition.
Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the pitch in tears.
    Who would’ve thought it?
    Saiss injury woe
The Morocco and Portugal game saw Romain Saiss stretchered off after picking up an injury.
The former Wolves man was in tears as he saw his World Cup quarter-final come to an end.

Saiss’ injury adds to a growing list of Morocco defender stars who are sidelined.
He will join West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd crocked on the North African nations injury list.
    Poker face
France’s stars have been practising their poker faces ahead of tonight’s quarter-final clash against England.
Didier Deschamps’ side are reported to have been enjoying playing poker at their World Cup base in Qatar.
A group of France’s more experienced heads have gathered every night to play cards, according to L’Equipe.
Olivier Giroud, Raphael Varane, Hugo Lloris and Antoine Griezmann are alleged to have grown close with while still enjoying “fierce competition” with each other.

    Half-Time: Morocco 1 – 0 Portugal
    Morocco lead at the break!
It was a goal that the Diogo Costa will not want to see again.
He came out to claim Attiyatt Allah’s looping cross from the left but was beaten to the ball by a magnificent leap from En Nesyri who headed into the unguarded goal.

    Morocco 0 – 0 Portugal
It’s still 0-0 with 33 minutes gone at the Al Thumama Stadium.
Here’s our reporter Tom Chambers with the update from SunSport’s live blog:
Portugal seem to have taken a leaf out of the Netherlands’ book yesterday and are just pumping the ball up to the big man up front.
Seems a bit early to resort to those tactics – not that the Moroccan defenders have minded too much.
Thousands of fans blocked from entering stadium
Chaos erupted outside Morocco’s World Cup quarter-final against Portugal as thousands of fans were blocked from entering the stadium.

    CristiaNO Ronaldo
Another game for Cristiano Ronaldo, another appearance on the substitutes’ bench.
Portugal boss Fernando Santos was not happy with his star man’s reaction when he was substituted against South Korea during the group stages and dropped him for the team’s last 16 game as a result.
Ronaldo’s deputy, Goncalo Ramos, took his opportunity with both hands and now Portugal’s six-time Ballon d’Or winner is on the outside looking in.
    Hendo warming up for France
Fans have been stunned by Jordan Henderson’s sensational piece of skill on the training pitch.
The Liverpool midfielder has played a key part in England’s victories over Wales and Senegal.
Henderson was given just 21 minutes in the opening two matches of the tournament, before he was a surprise starter against the Welsh.
And after producing two solid performances, which included scoring against Senegal, he looks nailed on to start against France.
Ahead of the game, Henderson proved that his confidence is clearly high after pulling off a wonderful trick in a training session.
He received the ball in game of rondo, a drill regularly used by the Three Lions, and audaciously managed to somehow flick the ball around Bukayo Saka after a brilliant spin.
Henderson is not known for his showboating, so this came as a shock to many on social media, who have been left astonished by the trick.
One said: “Hendo turning into prime Iniesta 😂.”

    Portugal starting XI
As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo is BENCHED again and not included in Portugal’s starting line-up.
