POLAND left-back Maciej Rybus has been BANNED from playing at the World Cup after signing for Spartak Moscow.The defender, 32, has 66 caps for his country but will not add to that tally in Qatar this winter.

After five years with Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, he has joined city-rivals Spartak on a free transfer this summer.
Most players are desperately trying to leave the country after their invasion of Ukraine, a close ally of Poland.
That includes Rybus’ international team-mates Grzegorz Krychowiak and Sebastian Szymanski who are said to be “both willing to leave Russia”.
However, Rybus – whose wife is Russian – decided to stay put, signing a fresh contract with the club who were booted out of the Europa League.

And Poland have taken an immediate hard stance by confirming he will now be out of the running for selection.
A statement from the Polish FA said: “The coach of the Polish national team, Czeslaw Michniewicz, talked to Maciej Rybus, who was currently staying in Poland, after the training camp of the national team ended last week.
“The coach informed the player that, due to his current club situation, he would not be called up for the September training camp of the national team and would not take into account the team that would go to the World Cup in Qatar when determining the composition of the team.”
Poland refused to play Russia in their scheduled World Cup play-off semi-final in March because of the invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24.

However, Netherlands boss Van Gaal – who managed United between 2014 and 2016 – reportedly told the defender he could be axed from the Dutch World Cup squad in Qatar if he wasn’t playing every week.
On whether a deal could still be struck between the parties, Dutch journalist Marcel Van Der Kraan told Sky Sports: “Absolutely dead (the deal) in the water.
“The player was ready to come. The player’s agents were in London at Manchester United’s offices two weeks ago.
“The talks were very good, money was never a problem but then Louis van Gaal turned up and told the player in the Dutch camp ‘if you go there I think your chances could be limited for playing for Holland in the World Cup’.”

Timber had reportedly been close to agreeing a transfer worth around £30million.
However, with Van Gaal’s intervention the deal now seems to be off, and Timber is set to sign a new deal with the Dutch Champions.
Timber was one of Ten Hag’s main players at Ajax last season as they claimed a third Eredivisie title in a row, appearing 43 times in all competitions and scoring three goals.
He made his breakthrough in the national team last year and has made eight caps so far.

Premier League set to SCRAP traditional festive fixture to ease player burnout after 2022 World Cup in Qatar

THE Premier League will reportedly scrap the traditional fixtures between Boxing Day and New Year after the World Cup.The December 28 games have been axed this year in an effort to help ease player World Cup following the tournament in Qatar.

The normal fixture list for that date has been moved due to the concerns over the physical conditioning of players that will have returned to domestic duties on Boxing Day – just eight days after the final in Doha.
Telegraph Sport says that the Prem “will announce in its club fixture lists on Thursday that its festive calendar will now only include Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and Jan 2” this term.
And the EFL are also following suit as its Christmas calendar is also allegedly going to include three matchdays – Dec 26, Dec 29 and Jan 1 – when that is released next week.
The FA Cup third round fixtures will be held across the January 7 weekend.

Stats reveal England’s actual chances of winning World Cup following dismal home hammering by Hungary

COSTA RICA are closing in on a World Cup place as they lead New Zealand.Joel Campbell got a deft touch on a cross just three minutes in to put the Tikos ahead.
But the All Whites were arguably hard done by after a Chris Wood goal was ruled out by VAR.
And things got even worse for New Zealand in the second half when the referee gave a red card for Kosta Barbarouses, following a VAR recommendation.

Costa Rica are going to their third-successive World Cup Finals.
31st ranked in the FIFA world ranking, they will join the 31 other teams already qualified for the tournament in Qatar.

New Zealand created enough chances to win a game like this three-times over and will feel aggrieved.
They needed to be more clinical in front of goal and paid the price for their missed chances.
