And they came through qualifying with a minimum of fuss as they avoided defeat in all their eight games.
However, Deschamps will not want any complacency creeping in for Les Bleus and will be mindful of their embarrassing penalty shootout defeat in the Euro 2020 last 16 against Switzerland last year.
Australia meanwhile failed to excel in qualifying as they finished comfortably below Japan and Saudi Arabia.
That forced them into a play-off where they earned a 0-0 draw with Peru before stunning the South Americans on penalties.
Madcap goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was the Socceroos’ hero as he came on in the 119th minute, threw Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese’s notes away and saved the decisive penalty in the shootout.
Denmark and Tunisia are the other teams that are featuring in World Cup Group D.

The Poles finished comfortably behind England in qualifying but then received a bye in their play-off semi-final due to Russia being disqualified following the invasion of Ukraine.
That led them with just a home tie against Sweden to make it to Qatar, and they duly triumphed 2-0 over Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co.
A second placed finish behind surprise package Canada was enough for Mexico to advance from North American qualifying and progress to their eighth straight World Cup.
And despite the intimidating prospect of facing Lewandowski, their history will give them reason to believe that they can edge out the Poles to reach the knockout stages.
El Tri have reached the last 16 in all of their last seven World Cup appearances and will also face Saudi Arabia and Argentina in the group stage.

France’s incredible XI of international break withdrawals could win the World Cup – with Benzema, Lloris and Kante out

AN INJURY crisis has hit the French squad – leaving the country without several key stars. Unfortunately for all the nations looking to prise the World Cup from their grip, France has incredible strength in depth.

Hugo Lloris will miss out due to injury – with Spurs sweating over his fitness tooCredit: Getty
Their squad is so rich in talent it could be argued that the players currently unavailable would be good enough retain the World Cup.
Among the most notable absences is that of Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Yesterday he became the latest to withdraw from the injury-hit French squad due to a thigh strain.
It has left Tottenham sweating on his fitness ahead of the huge North London derby directly after the international break.

France’s injuries are also numerous enough to fill out an entire back line.
Following AC Milan’s dramatic defeat to Napoli on Sunday, Theo Hernandez had been set to depart the San Siro for international duty.
But injury gave him no choice but to pull out of the squad.
Replacing him was Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne, but then the 29-year-old fell victim to an ankle issue a day after his call-up.

At the heart of the defence of France’s injured defence would be the impressive pairing of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and Presnel Kimpembe.
Konate has yet to appear for the Reds this season after injury during pre-season kept him out.
Meanwhile Kimpembe was sidelined with a hamstring issue following PSG’s 1-0 win over Brest earlier this month.
In midfield Paul Pogba could miss the World Cup altogether after a knee issue blighted his return to Juventus.
The ex-Manchester United star will reportedly be out for up to two months.
Also facing a fight for fitness is N’Golo Kante. He is out of this squad and is reportedly still a few weeks away from returning for Chelsea.
Joining Pogba and Kante would be Boubacar Kamara.
He was forced to withdraw from Didier Deschamps’ squad earlier this week after his encouraging start to life at Villa Park following his transfer.
    FRIGHTENING ATTACK
Up front would be the imposing figure of Karim Benzema, the man who almost single-handedly dragged Real Madrid to the Champions League last season.
Real Madrid have had to live without his particular set of skills in the last three games while Deschamps will have to look for alternatives ahead of their two Nations League games.
On the flanks of the injured 11 would be Kingsley Coman, who scored the winning goal in the 2020 Champions League final.

And tucked in more narrowly on the other side would be Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot, who was close to a big money move to Old Trafford in the summer.
France face Austria at home on Thursday before travelling to Denmark on Sunday. More

Russia ALREADY out of Euro 2024 as Uefa boot team out of qualifying draw over Ukraine invasion

RUSSIA have been booted OUT of the next European Championships because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.Uefa’s ruling executive committee agreed to exclude Russia from next month’s qualifying draw as a direct response to the continuing invasion of their neighbouring state.

It comes after Russia were also kicked out of the World Cup play-offs, when Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic all refused to play against them in protest.
All Russian sides have been banned from European club competitions this season as Europe unites against Vladimir Putin’s regime.
And now Uefa has made its most significant decision by confirming Russia’s name will not be alongside the other 53 European nations – Germany qualify automatically as hosts – when the qualifying draw is made in Frankfurt on October 9.
In a statement, Uefa confirmed: “All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee of 28 February 2022 which has further been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022.

“Russia is therefore not included in the UEFA European Football Championship 2022-24 qualifying draw.”
The ban on Russian teams at club level boosted Scottish bids in the Champions League as they took up Russia’s spots.
Earlier this year Russia were also banned from bidding to host Euro 2028 and 2032.
It came as Uefa came down hard with sanctions on Russia as a part of 12 major punishments implemented against Moscow.

Bans have been applied throughout the entirety of the nation’s football, with the Russian women’s team similarly booted out of the summer’s Euro’s and banned from qualification for the next world cup.
Youth and futsal tournaments run by Uefa have also been sanctioned with bans of their own. More

Sven Botman pulls out of Holland U21 squad just days before Belgium clash after Newcastle struggles

SVEN Botman has snubbed Holland’s Under-21 squad as he struggles to scrap his way back into the Newcastle team.Botman was overlooked by Louis van Gaal’s senior squad but was named for U-21 friendly matches against Belgium and Romania this week.

However the Newcastle Echo report that the centre-back told the Dutch FA he wants to focus on fighting for a place in Toon’s starting line-up.
The 22-year-old was signed from Lille this summer for £39million but has so far failed to impress.
The Magpies have won just one Premier League game all season.
Botman has been left out for three Prem games already, including Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has clearly stated that Botman is third choice in his position, despite his huge price tag.
Howe added: “We managed their load in the week where we had three games, so that was bringing Dan Burn back.
“I just feel his leadership skills and his experience, we need that in our team at the moment.
“Sven is going to be an outstanding player and will play many, many games for this club.

“We love Sven to bits, but Dan just gets the nod at the moment.”
But with Newcastle’s form so poor, it could be Botman’s chance to show what he can do against Fulham after the international break. More

And here SunSport have formulated a best XI of players who will be watching this year’s World Cup finals from home… or the beach.
Leading the line for the best XI not at the World Cup are Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland and AC Milan man Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He might be one of the most prolific strikers on the planet, but Haaland’s Norway could only finish third in their qualifying group.
Captained by Arsenal man Martin Odegaard – another to make the XI of stars not going to the World Cup – Norway finished behind both the Netherlands and Turkey.

And Ibrahimovic’s Sweden side also missed out on qualification – meaning Man Utd man Victor Lindelof is another absentee from the tournament.
In an attack-heavy team, Salah joins Haaland and Ibrahimovic in the front quartet of our team.
The Egypt forward blazed a penalty over the bar in their shootout defeat to Senegal, meaning last season’s top scorer in the Premier League will NOT be in Qatar.
And propping up the front four is Gabon captain and Chelsea forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And Austrian skipper David Alaba will join them in having a month off after his country lost 2-1 to Wales in their play-off semi-final back in March.
