Maguire showed why after gifting away possession to Jamal Musiala in his own defensive final third before bringing down the Bayern Munich star in the penalty area.
Supporters piled into the Manchester United captain as a result with one writing: “He’s so finished.”
Another added: “Harry Maguire is always a mistake waiting to happen, total donkey, no wonder he’s not in the United team.”
And a third said: “Maguire at fault for both goals. Guy is an absolute clown.”

Things went from bad to worse for Maguire as 15 minutes later he was caught out on the ball once again.
Maguire clumsily lost possession following a directionless run and moments later Kai Havertz doubled Germany’s lead with a fine curling effort.
The centre-back is unpopular amongst fans after losing form for club and country.
So much so that spectators at Wembley booed when Maguire’s name was announced 45 minutes before kick-off.

The Three Lions play at home tonight for the first time since Her Majesty passed away on September 8.
And they marked her sad death with a touching reflection ahead of kick-off against Germany – their final match before the World Cup.
World Cup-winning hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst as well as English and German FA chiefs laid wreaths at the side of the pitch.
There was then a rousing rendition of God Save The King, the first time the national football team have sung the new lyrics – although the Test cricketers were the first sport team to do so.

A minute’s silence was then impeccably observed by the home and away fans alike inside the 90,000-seater stadium.
During the pause under the darkened night sky, the lights were dimmed inside the ground.
And then supporters in the stands – who could get a programme with Queen Elizabeth II handing the Jules Rimet trophy to Bobby Moore in 1966 – used their phone torches to create a stunning spectacle while the big screens displayed a photo of the monarch.
Viewers watching on at home were also in awe.

One said: “Well done all at Wembley, England and German fans – that’s how you do a minute’s silence in respect.”
Another wrote: “Best minute’s silence I’ve seen in England for a long time – a beautiful spectacle to pay respects to the Queen. Not a single noise made.”
And a third user commented: “Lovely to see all of the supporters at Wembley tonight observing the silence for our late HM Queen Elizabeth.
“The rivalries may run deep but, this evening, respect ran even deeper.”
However, there were reports of a smattering of boos during the Germany national anthem.

A jam-packed crowd was in attendance at Wembley to see Gareth Southgate’s team in action.
However, the rest of England’s supporters unable to get to the national stadium were tuning into Channel 4.
But just minutes into the first half of the game those that were watching via the Channel 4 website and app were no longer able to watch as both went down.
Viewers online and on the All4 app were greeted with an unwelcome error message.

The broadcaster replaced ITV for coverage of Three Lions matches this year.
But frustrated viewers took to Twitter to vent their anger at being unable to watch Southgate’s men in action.
One fan moaned: “Fancy sorting your app out so we can watch the game?”
Another wrote: “Let’s just hope Channel 4 hasn’t got the rights to any of the World Cup games. All4 can’t handle it.”

And another joked: “Channel 4 certainly made a difference with English football. Now nobody can watch it!”

Gareth Bale at centre of club vs country battle with Wales reluctant for captain to play full MLS role before World Cup

GARETH BALE is at the centre of a fitness battle between club and country ahead of the World Cup.The Los Angeles FC forward, 33, completed his first 90 minutes in just over a year in Wales’ 1-0 Nations League loss to Poland on Sunday – which relegated them to League B.

Bale’s club side want him raring to go in next month’s MLS play-offs but the Dragons are keen for their captain to be in peak condition for Qatar a month later.
Wales boss Robert Page says talks will be held in a bid to manage his talisman before the Group B opener against USA on November 21.
Page said: “There will be communication between both (Wales and LAFC). They want Gareth available for them and we want him in the best physical position we can for the first game against the USA.
“We will be in contact with them to make sure he is in the right place. He has gone from not playing that many minutes to 30 on Thursday to 90 minutes.

“We wouldn’t normally do that. Would I have wanted him to play 90 minutes? Probably not. But he is Gareth Bale and because of the importance of the game, we wanted to win it.
“And if you get a free-kick in the 92nd minute there is potential he could put it in the top corner so you are always going to want to keep him on the pitch.
“What he does from now until the first game against USA, we will be in contact with the club and help manage those minutes.
“LA are a good outfit, they will know exactly how to get him from where he is at this moment in time to full fitness which is 90 minutes week in week out.”

Over the next seven weeks before Wales make their first World Cup appearance since 1958, Page must also decide where to play Bale to get the best out of the 108-cap star.
Page has alternative forward options in 6ft5 handful Kieffer Moore, who scored in a 2-1 defeat to Belgium last Thursday, while Brennan Johnson and Dan James add lightning pace to the attack.
Wales ended the Poland loss in Cardiff with all four attackers on the pitch as Bale moved deeper into a playmaker role and the scenario could pose the Dragons chief a selection headache in Qatar.
When asked if Bale could play off Moore rather than in a wide position, Page added: “Yeah, potentially.
“There was an argument to start Kieffer but when we looked at their weaknesses we thought pace could hurt them with the way Brennan has been playing and Dan James.
“Bringing Kieffer on gave us that option to play off the front. We could find Kieffer then set Gareth to play in behind.

“To do that we had to change to a back four, which we have done time and time again and we had a lot of success two years ago. It was good we could adapt to that and it got our four best forward players on the pitch.
“Potentially I think Gareth likes that position as a ten and it suits us with Brennan’s pace and athleticism outside him on the right.” More

‘This can be a big problem’ – Germany legend Lothar Matthaus says England have major issue in one particular position

LOTHAR MATTHAUS believes England have a “big problem” in one particular position that could derail their World Cup chances. But the Germany legend still considers the Three Lions one of the favourites for Qatar 2022 despite the weak point.

England face Germany at Wembley tonight in their final match before facing Iran in Doha on November 21.
Gareth Southgate is hoping his side can score their first goal in open play since a 3-0 friendly win over Ivory Coast in March.
However, Matthaus reckons England’s major issue is at the other end of the pitch.
The World Cup-winning captain believes the lack of an elite goalkeeper could be the 1966 champions’ undoing.

Matthaus told The Telegraph: “When you see the names of the players, England are one of the favourites in the World Cup.
“England and France could have three first teams.
“Fourth place in Russia, final of the Euros – they are getting very close to winning a title after 1966.
“But maybe they have a problem with the goalkeeper.

“They don’t have a goalkeeper like Germany.
“This can be a big problem – you need each player in the World Cup.”
Jordan Pickford made his debut in 2017 and has been England’s first choice since 2018, including at the World Cup and Euros.
However, he has come under scrutiny in the last year after a number of blunders for Everton – but did have a dramatic upturn in form as his saves helped keep the Toffees in the Premier League last season.

But with Pickford injured for the current Nations League international break, Nick Pope has got the nod with Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson the back-ups.
Pickford is expected to keep his place between the sticks in Qatar – but it is a significant drop-off in quality from the world-class options available to their rivals.
Germany have Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Manuel Neuer at their disposal while Brazil boast Ederson and Alisson.
Matthaus also believes Germany and Spain have an advantage over the likes of England and France – because of their schedule with only one domestic cup competition.
He added: “I think it is good especially for the countries with such a long league championship without a winter break to play this World Cup during the season rather than at the end.

‘What’s going on here?’ – England icon Rio Ferdinand questions Southgate’s decision to drop Alexander-Arnold and Tomori

RIO FERDINAND was outraged by Gareth Southgate’s decision not to include Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fikayo Tomori in the matchday squad to face Germany. The defensive pair were also left out against Italy so will not play a minute for England over the international break with the World Cup away.

Southgate opted for Reece James at right wing-back once again at Wembley and Alexander-Arnold’s omission from the squad left Ferdinand perplexed.
Speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand remarked: “How is Trent not in the England squad? What’s going on here?
“I can’t have it. I don’t know how he has not taken him.
“He’s not even in the squad I don’t understand, it’s either “I know what he is, he’s brilliant, he is going to play anyway”, or “He ain’t for me”, what is it?”

Ferdinand then switched his focus to Tomori and questioned his continued absence from the team.
The former Manchester United star wants Southgate to give the centre-back an opportunity, particularly as Ferdinand believes there is a dearth of talent in that position.
Ferdinand continued: “That’s the question that needs to be asked. I can’t believe [it], Tomori has won Serie A.
“He is playing really well as an integral player in that team and can’t get anywhere near the squad, let alone the team, he can’t get in the squad for the game.

“It’s not like we are sitting here and going ‘We’ve got an unbelievable amount of centre-backs to pick from by the way’, give him a go and have a look, see if he can do it.”
Alexander-Arnold and Tomori were left out against Germany along with Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse.
It comes after France legend Frank Leboeuf described Alexander-Arnold’s defending as “Championship level”.
He said of the Liverpool right-back: “Look at Trent Alexander-Arnold. I love the guy, his offensive qualities.
    “But defensively, he’s Championship level.
”Only [Jurgen] Klopp’s system works for him.
“When it doesn’t work as well as it has this season, all you see is his defensive shortcomings.” More

    That’s all from Wembley Stadium
After a sloppy start, England came back from behind in a whirlwind second half to cap off an underwhelming Nations League campaign.
It also marks the end of World Cup preparations as the Three Lions’ next scheduled match will see them face Iran at the Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar.
Gareth Southgate has some serious decisions to make before then with every man fighting for a place in the squad.
Thank you for reading, and goodnight!
    Gareth Southgate reacts
When speaking to Channel 4, the England boss said:
“To an extent we are always going to face pressure so we need to be exposed to pressure.
“We played a friendly against Ivory Coast in March and they went to 10 men and it became a non-event and we learnt nothing.
“This week we’ve learnt a huge amount. They’ve had to step forward and come together – it will benefit us in the long run.”
On the penalty Maguire gave away: “It is hard to tell from the side, it is the giving away of possession that is the problem, but look as a group they have really come together this week.
“It has been a tough period for team but they have grown.”

When speaking to Channel 4, the England skipper said:
“It was a lot better. I thought we played really well today, we were unfortunate to go 2-0 behind, it was a mistake and then a great goal from the edge of the box.
“We did really well to stay in the game, to get back into it, get into the lead and then unfortunately another error.
“The mentality and fight of the team was shown out there today.
“We didn’t get the win but we can be proud of what we did and it puts us in a good place ahead of the World Cup.
“It was nice to score obviously. There always seems to be a few pressure penalties here at Wembley but it was nice to see that one go in and just a shame we couldn’t get the win but we keep going.
