The uninspired performance from Gareth Southgate’s squad sparked a furious response from thousands of England fans both on social media and in Qatar, with many labelling the game: “poor”, “terrible” and even “dreadful”.
But, the accusations of England’s “boring” style of play have now been proved true.
Friday’s stalemate marked England’s 12th goalless draw at the World Cup – the most of any team in the tournament’s history.
The Three Lions have been held to a 0-0 draw by teams including; Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Costa Rica, Nigeria and Morocco in the past, but fans are now starting to grow more and more frustrated with the team’s apparent lack of ambition on the pitch.

One person tweeted: “This is an absolute disgrace by @England. Why is Gareth not bringing on our best player? We have spent more time playing backwards than attacking. Its a woeful performance, an embarrassment and them players should be ashamed!”
While another added: “A staggeringly inept performance from England, with a manager once again, sadly, highlighting an inability to get the most out of the attacking talent in the squad, or change a game tactically when needed.”
The fan fury came just a few days after England kicked off their 2022 World Cup campaign with a 6-2 win over Iran thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish.
But, Southgate has refused to be critical of his players.

After Friday’s game, he said: “Of course I want our fans to go home happy. I want our fans at home to have a smile on their faces.
“We didn’t quite manage to achieve that tonight. But people are going to react how they’re going to react.
“I can’t let that affect how I feel about the team or how the team feels. The objective is to qualify. We have three games to do it.
“I would imagine most of the teams in the competition will take three games to do it.
“We have to stay calm in these tournaments. We’ve been through this before. I’ve been in it as a player and a coach.
“We have the unique thing of getting through the last two in two games. So I’m sure there will be a lot of noise – this is the tournament of external noise. But we’re on track. We have a bit to do. We can still improve. That’s going to be our target.” More

He revealed earlier this week that he has no issue with his players having sex on the night before matches.
But he has since admitted where he draws the line.

The pair have been dating since last year… and Enrique doesn’t want them to get ahead of themselves.

Asked what he would do if Torres celebrated a goal at the World Cup with a baby gesture, he said: “I would replace him in that moment, put him on the stands, and he wouldn’t set foot on a football pitch again.”
Torres, 22, may have many goals to celebrate during this tournament, if Spain’s opener against Costa Rica is anything to go by.
La Roja smashed their underdog opponents 7-0 – with Torres scoring twice.
Sira was among the Wags cheering Spain stars on during the match – as well as Alvaro Morata’s girlfriend Alice Campello and Marco Asensio’s partner Sandra Garal.

Maddison and Foden both train as glum England get back to work after drab display vs USA with focus turning to Wales

JAMES MADDISON and Phil Foden both trained on Saturday – hours after watching their team-mates fail to create anything against the USA.
Foden was an unused sub on Friday night despite the lack of chances created by the Three Lions.

Instead, Gareth Southgate turned to Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish as England managed just three shots on target.
The England boss said: “We thought it was the right thing to keep the team from the start and then the wide players we went with Jack and Marcus ahead of Phil on the changes.
“We didn’t feel it was right for Phil in the middle because he doesn’t play there for his club.”
Maddison, meanwhile, has not been fit enough to train fully so far in Qatar – let alone get on the pitch against Iran or USA.

He picked up a knee injury for Leicester against West Ham two weeks ago, forcing him to sit out and do his own individual work for the first two weeks of camp.
Today is the first time he has trained on the pitch in more than a week.
But after the struggles against the Americans, his involvement in training will come as a welcome sight for Three Lions fans crying out to see their team deliver at the World Cup.
As expected, it was not a regular session on Saturday afternoon because 14 of the 26-man squad are recovering after being involved last night, with the goalless draw ending at midnight local time.

All the subs from last night were out in the 30C afternoon Qatar heat except Henderson who conducted his recovery work inside – with few smiles on the glum faces.
England’s final Group B game is on Tuesday evening when they take on Wales.
Victory would guarantee top spot and therefore a last-16 clash with Group A’s runners-up – likely Ecuador or Senegal.
A 4-0 defeat to neighbours Wales, though, could see the Three Lions sent packing.
England were booed off the pitch after the full-time whistle against the Yanks as fans showed their displeasure at the performance.
Gary Neville was disappointed Foden did not get on the pitch and Roy Keane agreed as he branded the performance as “terrible”.
The Irishman said: “We were surprised watching it, Gareth will have his reasons he sees them more than anybody but we’re stood watching the game expecting Foden to come on.
“The subs that did come on, didn’t have an impact, they done well the other day but they looked leggy, short of ideas, from set-pieces, they didn’t look like a goal in their locker.
    “A terrible performance.”

Going into the final round of group games, The Wallabies sit second in the group, behind France who play against Denmark later.
Australia who will face Denmark in their final game could find the game takes a winner takes all tag with the victors progressing to the knockout rounds.
Graham Arnold’s men will be watching on, seeing what is required of them to make history for his team.
    Souttar inspires Australian victory
The Wallabies centre-back was a rock in the heart of defence for Australia today and frustrated Tunisia.
Even when the Eagles of Carthage thought they had broke through, Souttar was there covering to keep them out.
As the stats show, Graham Arnold’s side were deserved winners today.

In the ground – full time analysis
Sun reporter Oscar Paul reports from Qatar:
TUNISIA are blessed with Champions League fans but League One standard footballers whereas Australia have Championship quality players and supporters.
But in Mitchell Duke the Aussies have a striker who produced a World Cup-worthy header to get Operation Last 16 back on track.
Yet fortunately for them, the Eagles of Carthage don’t have a forward to match their unrivalled backing.
They squandered big chances in their goalless opener against Denmark, and it was more of the same here.
In their two games Tunisia have had 26 shots, only five of which were on target, and zero goals.
Australia were in unchartered territory, leading at half time in a World Cup game.
But without anyone capable of applying a decent finish for Tunisia, they held on to set up a huge game against Denmark.
    Carthage has fallen
The Eagles of Carthage had their wings clipped today by the Socceroos.
After their performance against The Danes, Tunisia will have fancied their chances of winning this game today.
Their first half performance was just not good enough and gave Australia a foothold in the game.
Despite a much better second half, they could not break down The Wallabies defence who held on for the three points.

He did well to control his shot but it was never going to cause Ryan any problems as it was straight at him.
Australia are looking to make some more changes.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    82. The noise of the travelling Tunisia fans quietens as soon as Australia snuff out the attack.

Claiming for a penalty from their corner, the referee is not interested and it seems VAR isn’t either.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    80. Australia come forward looking for that second goal that will give them some breathing space.
It could be a very tense ending to the game if they still hold their 1-0 lead.

    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    78. Australia are leaving it all out on the pitch here.

Ryan is equal to the effort.
Msakni tries to beat the keeper at his near post but Ryan parries the ball out.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    70. Tunisia lose the ball to the Australian front line but immediately win the ball back,
They are passing the ball around looking for options.
Australia seem to be closing down the options available to them more.

    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    68. With just over half an hour remaining, time is starting to run out for the Eagles of Carthage.
While defeat here would not end their hopes of qualifying, it certainly makes it a much more difficult task.
They would need a positive result against France in their final game.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    66. There are bodies going down all over the pitch at the moment.
The referee is not buying any of it fortunately for The Wallabies.
    Laidouni comes off for Khazri.
Tunisia 0-1 Australia – Abdi yellow card
    64. Mitchell Duke comes off for Jamie MacClaren.
Hrustic also enters the fray for Australia.
The manger getting some fresh legs on to cope with the Tunisian threat.
Ali Abdi is booked for a heavy challenge.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    62. Sassi tries his luck from distance but he is troubling the ball boys more than Ryan in the Australian goal.
This is proving to be a sterner test of The Wallabies back line.
The Tunisian physical presence is testing Australia.
    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    60. Abdi was such an integral player for the Eagles of Carthage in their first World Cup match.
He has not been able to get forward as much against Australia.
It cuts down the supply to Jebali as the lone striker.

    Tunisia 0-1 Australia
    58. Kadri will be much happier with his side’s performance since the interval.

Tunisia 0 Australia 1: Socceroos win first World Cup match since 2010 with super header to give hope of reaching last 16

The 31-year-old had a trial at West Ham nine years ago but now plays for Japanese outfit Fagiano Okayama after stints in Saudi Arabia and back home in Oz.
And you can bet the journeyman target man won’t have scored a better – or more important – goal in his life than this.
The narrow 1-0 win if Australia’s first World Cup clean sheet since 1974.
And following Duke’s stunning glancing header off the back of his noggin, videos quickly emerged of fans Down Under going bats*** crazy.

After their 4-1 humbling by France, this was a must-win if Australia were to reach the round of 16 for the first time since 2006.

In their two games Tunisia have had 26 shots, only five of which were on target, and zero goals.
They have never reached the knockouts and now must beat reigning champs France in the final group game to stand a chance.
This Group D clash was desperately low on quality from both sides – other than Duke’s 23rd-minute winning goal.
Starting in their own box, a slick Aussie move found Craig Goodwin on the left.
His deflected cross bounced up perfectly for Duke but the header was exceptional, guiding it off the back of his head into the far corner.
The north Africans then had two great chances to equalise before the break.
Mohammed Drager was first, denied a seemingly certain goal by one of the blocks of the tournament by Stoke’s Harry Soutter.
Youssef Msakni was next, flashing a great chance wide at the near post.
Oz were in unfamiliar territory, leading at half-time in the World Cup for the first time in 18 games.

FRANCE continue their defence of their World Cup crown when they face Denmark.Les Bleus won the 2018 tournament in Russia and are hoping to make it a double in Qatar.

Didier Deschamps’ men stormed to an opening-day win but face a much-tougher test in their second match.
France face Denmark knowing a win – or possibly even a draw – would book their spot in the last 16.
The Danes were tipped as dark horses for the tournament, but stuttered to a draw in their first game.

    Any injuries to worry about?
France: Oh yes… plenty of them too.
The French came into the tournament with a squad decimated by injuries, including key striker Karim Benzema, as well as midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, to name a few.
So seeing Lucas Hernandez ruled out of the World Cup with an ACL rupture just 16 minutes into the win over Australia was less than ideal.
Denmark: Worryingly for them, they too have injury concerns.
Thomas Delaney was forced off during the draw with Tunisia and has also been ruled out of the tournament.
Who will be the star men?
France: It has to be that man Kylian Mbappe.
Olivier Giroud stole the headlines as he scored twice to equal Thierry Henry’s goals record for France.
But Mbappe is the bright spark, the man who makes the French really tick and anything good will likely start – or perhaps end – with him.
He also scored in the big win over the Socceroos.
Denmark: Christian Eriksen is back at a major tournament just 18 months after his horror cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.
He wasn’t quite at his best against Tunisia, but the Manchester United star is their playmaker extraordinaire and will look to pull the strings in the middle of the park.

    What’s the head-to-head?
The two nations have played each other 16 teams, with France edging the record with eight wins to go with six losses and two draws.
However, Denmark hold the momentum having won BOTH of their Nations League matches – in June and September – this year.
They drew 0-0 in the final match of the group stages at Russia 2018 as both teams reached the knockout rounds and France went on to win the tournament.

Argentina vs Mexico – World Cup Group C: How they’re doing, injuries and prediction as Messi and Co look to bounce back

ONE of the pre-tournament favourites losing to the minnows. We’ve seen it before… Senegal’s shock win over then-reigning champions France in 2002 springs to mind.

Fast forward 20 years and this time it was Argentina throwing away a one-goal lead to lose to Saudi Arabia.
If Lionel Messi and Co are to stand any chance of reaching the knockout stages, they’ll need a result in their second match.
But they face another potential banana skin in Mexico – who famously helped KO Germany from the 2018 World Cup – and with Poland yet to come, Argentina really are up against it.

    Any injuries to worry about?
Argentina: No injury concerns, but changes are likely abound.
Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez will almost certainly start, while City ace Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala will be pushing for a spot in the XI.
Mexico: Similarly for Mexico, there are no injury worries.
But, having failed to break down Poland, there could be changes in the team as Wolves star Raul Jimenez and veteran Andres Guardado hope to get the nod.
Who will be the star men?
Argentina: Lionel Messi… how could it not be?
The South Americans are packed with superstar talent – but only one is a truly generational – if not once-in-a-lifetime – megastar.
Messi can win matches on his own and after the kick up the backside that was the Saudi Arabia loss, this could prove to be a revenge tour.
Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa, the veteran goalkeeper.
Always shines on the biggest stage, the World Cup, and he’ll need to be in top form to keep the likes of Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Dybala and Co out.

Tunisia: There are no fresh injury concerns for Jalel Kadri.
But Wahbi Khazri – the leading scorer in the squad – should return to the squad following an injury that saw him miss matchday one.
Australia: Graham Arnold has a fully-fit squad to choose from.
