Despite the bump in the road, Gareth Southgate’s players didn’t look too disheartened after the final whistle.
That is because they were granted the opportunity to reunite with family and friends who were supporting them from the stands at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Captain Harry Kane – who has been struggling with an ankle issue since Monday’s opening 6-2 win against Iran – was quick to catch up with his wife Katie Goodland after his post-match media duties were completed.
Meanwhile, England’s player of the match Harry Maguire embraced his wife Fern Hawkins and daughter Lillie.

And defenders Eric Dier and Conor Coady both looked thrilled as they met up with family members.

Players have been allowed to contact their loved ones through phone and video calls from the team’s hotel and base camp in Al Wakrah.
But, face-to-face contact has been limited to a short space of time after each match.

Between matchdays, the Three Lions’ nearest and dearest are staying on a £1billion super yacht named MSC World Europa, which is docked in Doha.
So far, they have racked up an eyewatering £20,000 bar bill.
A source said: “They’re on a premium drinks package whilst on board the cruise liner.

    France 0-0 Denmark
7 – If this was a redundant website, it might be called Friends Reunited.
So many current and former team-mates in opposition although the key battle might be Christensen against Giroud, one that took place so many times on the training ground at Cobham.
    France 0-0 Denmark
6 – Dembele with some great defensive work and a mazy run from his own half.
It doesn’t amount to anything but it has the crowd on their feet.
    France 0-0 Denmark
4 – Mbappe wins it but the Danes get it straight back!
Good start from the side in white and red.
    France 0-0 Denmark
3 – The Danes start with a back three with wing-backs Kristensen and Maehle high up the field.
Not sure Les Bleus have touched the ball yet.
    France 0-0 Denmark
    1 – Here we go!
Denmark start with possession and knock it comfortably around as the fans start a “viking clap”.
The French fans start their “allez”.

    More on Giroud’s record
The ex-Chelsea man scored a brace earlier this week in the 4-1 win against the Aussies.
At 36-years-old, he’s currently tied on 51 goals with Thierry Henry after his double.
Despite this, Graeme Souness says: “I’m not his biggest fan.
“At 36, fair play to him. But I think it’s an anomaly. He wouldn’t get a look in if Benzema was fit.”

Fans yet to make their mark
Less than half an hour before kick-off and Stadium 974 is no more than a third full with huge blocks of empty seats in every stand, writes Martin Lipton.
This should be a ripper, two of the best teams in the tournament, but you wouldn’t know it from the current situation.
At least we just had the first blast of “Alles les bleus” from the French fans, with their tricolors waving in the fetid air.
Stadium 974 is the only ground here in Qatar that does not have pitch-level air-conditioning.
That could be a factor as it’s still 27 degrees Celsius. At least according to my company-issued phone.

    Live from the ground
Greetings from the prefab Stadium 974, writes Mark Irwin, where the big question is can Olivier Giroud become France’s all-time top scorer?
He’s currently tied on 51 goals with Thierry Henry after his double in the 4-1 win against Australia and victory today will see France become the first team to qualify for the last 16.
Raphael Varane is playing his first game since straining a hamstring for Manchester United against Chelsa five weeks ago, with the unfortunate Ibrahima Konate dropping to the bench.
But it won’t be plain sailing for Les Bleus, who lost home and away against Denmark in the Nations League and have never been beaten three times in a year by the same team before.
Kasper Hjulmand has made four changes to the team held to a goalless draw by Tunisia in their opening Group D game.
I presume the ground is going to fill up because with half an hour to kick-off it’s less than a quarter full.
    The venue?
Tonight’s game is at Stadium 974.
Designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects, the stadium is constructed on the waterfront in Ras Abu Aboud.
The unique name is due to its never before seen design as the stadium incorporates 974 recycled shipping containers. This number is significant as 974 is the dialling code for Qatar.
The stadium was previously called the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium before the change of name.

These containers will contain amenities such as bathrooms and concessions, and will be dismantled after the World Cup.
Once taken apart, the 40,000 seater sustainable stadium will use the seats and containers to assist other under-developing countries.
The modern stadium will also host a round of 16 clash.
    Tonight’s head-to-head
The two nations have played each other 16 teams, with France edging the record with eight wins to go with six losses and two draws.
However, Denmark hold the momentum having won BOTH of their Nations League matches – in June and September – this year.
They drew 0-0 in the final match of the group stages at Russia 2018 as both teams reached the knockout rounds and France went on to win the tournament.
    Any injury concerns for Denmark?
Worryingly for the Danes, they too have injury concerns.
Thomas Delaney was forced off during the draw with Tunisia and has also been ruled out of the tournament.
The rest of the squad looks fit and firing for tonight’s bout though.
    Less than ideal Blues
The French came into the tournament with a squad decimated by injuries, including key striker Karim Benzema, as well as midfielders Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, to name a few.
So seeing Lucas Hernandez ruled out of the World Cup with an ACL rupture just 16 minutes into the win over Australia was not a great start.
    The not-so-great Danes
Denmark were tipped as dark horses for the tournament, but stuttered to a draw in their first game.
They limped to a 0-0 stalemate against Tunisia, piling the pressure onto them ahead of this stern test.

    Along came France
France continue their defence of their World Cup crown when they face Denmark tonight.
Les Bleus won the 2018 tournament in Russia and are hoping to make it a double in Qatar.
Didier Deschamps’ men stormed to an opening-day win but face a much-tougher test in their second match.
France face Denmark knowing a win – or possibly even a draw – would book their spot in the last 16.

    Round One roundup
France can qualify for the knockout round of the World Cup with a win over Denmark in the group stages.
The reigning champions thrashed Australia in their opening fixture despite going a goal behind.
But they come up against a Denmark side desperate for three points having recently drawn with Tunisia.
    Denmark starting XI
Denmark have revealed their personnel for this evening as they try and stay in the hunt for qualification.
Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Nelsson; Maehle, Eriksen, Hojbjerg, Kristensen; Damsgaard, Cornelius, Lindstrom.

    France starting XI
France have revealed their starting line up for tonight and it’s strong.
LLoris; Hernandez, Upamecano, Varance, Kounde; Rabiot, Tchouameni, Griezmann; Mbappe, Giroud, Dembele.

Taliban bosses ‘made MILLIONS helping to build Qatar World Cup stadiums with construction deals’

TALIBAN bosses have made a fortune helping to build stadiums in Qatar ahead of the World Cup sources have claimed.Developers are said to have paid millions to senior officials of the ruthless militant group in order to use heavy construction machinery.

Taliban officials are said to have made millions in QatarCredit: AP
A source from the Taliban’s office in Doha who lived in the area during the decade before Afghanistan’s fall last year said Taliban officials invested millions from their jaw-dropping salaries into infrastructure machinery.
The source told the Telegraph: “The Taliban invested heavily in the World Cup construction and the tournament was a golden duck. They were paid millions.
“Some Taliban members had between six and ten pieces of heavy machinery each in Doha and would earn up to £10,000 per machine per month.”
A spokesperson for the terrorist group has denied the claims saying “there was no such transaction ” while Qatari officials said there was no wrongdoing in the arrangements.
    READ MORE ON WORLD CUP
Two sources claimed officials were given large sums of money to live in the country during peace negotiations with the UN.
A former senior Afghan diplomat said: “It was an open secret in the Afghan Embassy in Doha that the Taliban negotiations team and political office were being paid well by the Qatari regime and they invested these salaries in construction equipment for the World Cup.
The outlet reports Qatari authorities have spent thousands of pounds paying Taliban officials during their stay in the country for peace talks with the West.
They were also offered other perks including luxury vehicles, free health care and food deliveries.
    Most read in The Sun
The allowances were paid in cash at first and later transferred to the officials’ bank accounts with Qatari authorities claiming the payments were “monitored in coordination” with the US, “including the total amounts and how and where it was spent”.
Taliban chief Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted that the claim is “far from the truth” and said “there was no such transaction.”
The Talibans’ alleged links to the World Cup raise questions over the already controversial tournament.
Qatar’s tournament has faced outrage over the country’s human rights practices amid claims thousands of migrant workers have died in the construction industry. More

Reacting to the stalemate, Mount said: “It was tough to play our stuff, they have a very physical midfield and a team where they can play and great individual players.
“It wasn’t easy but we stuck with it and we tried to play our stuff, with maybe a little bit of a lack of technical ability in the end in the final third with that final pass or shot to create a chance.
“But it’s a clean sheet, we look at the positives and it’s a point gained in the big picture and it’s always tough to win every single group game.

Who is Argentina vs Mexico World Cup 2022 referee Daniele Orsato and what controversies has he been involved in?

REFEREE Daniele Orsato has been called up for the World Cup, to referee some of the world’s biggest games, including the opener. The Italian official will preside over the group match between Argentina and Mexico.
Italian Daniele Orsato is one of the world’s most respected and experienced refereesCredit: Getty
Has he officiated at a World Cup or Euros before?
The Italian made his first World Cup appearance in 2018 and also officiated at Euro 2020.
Orsato had before officiated a series of international friendlies and World Cup qualifying fixtures, including the first leg of the World Cup play-off between Honduras and Australia.
He’s also been a senior referee in Serie A since 2010.
What has he done so far?
Orsato made his Serie C debut in 2002, moving to the premier Serie A division for the 2006-07 season. He has gone on to make nearly 200 appearances in the division.
Since 2012, the Italian has been involved in Champions League fixtures. Orsato went on to referee the 2020 Champions League final between PSG and Bayern Munich before reffing the 2021/22 semi-final second leg between Real Madrid and Chelsea.
    Most read in sport
    Has he used VAR before?
Orsato reversed a decision in a Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Juventus after using VAR to view the incident. The Italian correctly decided to send off Inter’s Matias Vecino instead of sticking with the yellow card he had already given.
But in the same game he controversially refused to use VAR after failing to give Miralem Pjanic a card for a high tackle on Rafinha, with the Bosnian already on a yellow.
The decision would prove crucial as Juve went on to secure a late 3-2 win.
VAR has been used in Italian’s Serie A since the start of the 2017/18 season. Orsato is a regular official in the league.
He also refereed the controversial Champions League tie between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
Orsato awarded a penalty to United in the 94th minute via VAR after a handball by Presnel Kimpembe and Marcus Rashford scored it to send United through.
Which Euro 2020 games did he referee?
Daniele Orsato made his Euro 2020 bow in England’s 1-0 win over Croatia.
And following that game he refereed Spain vs Poland, awarding a penalty to the Spaniards after a VAR review.
He later officiated Ukraine’s win over Sweden in the last 16 of the tournament.
