SAM KERR predicted she would score a worldie… and duly smashed in a wonder goal as Chelsea survived a fright to win their fifth league title in six seasons.A second-half Kerr stunner was among the efforts that saw the Blues dispatch Manchester United 4-2 claiming WSL supremacy over Arsenal.

The match saw the Australia captain net a brace with the striker having scored more goals than any other WSL player since her debut in January 2020.
Of her cracking effort, Kerr said: “With the second goal – it sounds crazy – but I try things like that all the time.
“I visualise scoring goals a lot. Everyone thinks I was surprised I scored that goal. “
“But I told Erin Cuthbert, ‘I’m going to score an unbelievable goal.
“I’m going to chest it down and volley the ball. I’m going to score a worldie.”

Chelsea gaffer Emma Hayes hailed Kerr as the best player in the world following her wonder strikes.
Hayes said: “The second one was world-class, it was outrageous, audacious.
“She’s the best for a reason and she stepped up once again for this football club.

Kerr had a couple of attempts before halftime including a 37th minute effort forcing a save from Mary Earps.

The second spell saw Hayes shuffle her deck with Beth England and Ji So-Yun coming on in place of Jonna Andersson and Sophie Ingle.
The substitutions had the desired effect with England latching onto a pass from Ji to send a dangerous cross in moments before Kerr’s volleyed goal.
And the hosts took the lead with Ji slotting a pass to Pernille Harder who threaded the ball forward for Guro Reiten to fire past Earps in the 51st minute
The Blues capped off their dramatic fightback with Kerr volleying a shot that dipped into the goal from distance to wrap up a 4-2 win.
The loss for United combined with Man City’s win at Reading saw the Red Devils miss out on a Champions League spot.

Ji, 31, and midfielder Spence, 29 are among Chelsea’s longest-serving players.
Spence rose through their ranks after signing as a youth player from Arsenal in 2008 with Ji arriving six years later from Japanese club INAC Kobe Leonessa
Both were in the side that helped Chelsea to their first FA Cup win in 2015 with playmaker Ji netting the winner in a 1-0 defeat of Notts County.

JONAS EIDEVALL hopes Caitlin Foord remains a Gunner following her clinical efforts in their 3-0 defeat of Tottenham.The Australia ace, who scored twice to help Arsenal go a point behind Chelsea, has been linked with Juventus, according to reports.

McCabe hopes they can repeat their 2019 away win over Spurs, which had a record WSL crowd of 38,262.

This week it was reported West Ham men were granted permission to rearrange the timing of their May 15 Prem clash with Manchester City, which was due to start at 4:30pm.
But it has now been brought forward to 2pm to give the Irons more time to prepare for a possible May 18 Europa League final in Spain should the Hammers reach that stage.
That time change means it will now clash with the Women’s FA Cup final between Man City and Chelsea, which kicks-off at 2.30pm at Wembley.
Tonight’s game between City and Birmingham will see the club pay tribute to their long-serving shot-stopper Karen Bardsley.

DREW SPENCE says calling time on her Blues career after a 14-year spell is one of the toughest calls she has had to make.The WSL ace, who is Chelsea’s longest-serving player, tearfully announced she would leave this summer in an emotional video.

Spence, who joined the Blues in 2008, has been a mainstay in Emma Hayes’ squad over the past ten years.
News of her departure comes four days after Ji So-Yun announced her exit with the South Korea star leaving the club at the end of this term after an eight-year stint.
Spence could be set to make her last Blues appearances against Manchester United in the league and Man City in the FA Cup final.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, the midfield ace said: “This is probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.
“It’s like leaving your family.”

The midfielder added: “The amount of trophies we won is such a proud achievement for me.
“I’ll probably say the first FA Cup final (we won) was such a big moment for us because the first (WSL) league title challenge we lost on the last day (of the 2014) season was so dramatic.
“Everyone was so distraught, so to win that first big trophy was so important for us.
“To get over that line to get to hear that final whistle was such a proud moment.
“From there we just kicked on and every year we just got better and better.”
