Charlton’s Madelene Wright axed after she’s filmed ‘inhaling from balloon’ and ‘swigging champagne while driving’

MADELENE WRIGHT has been axed by Charlton Women after she was reportedly seen inhaling from a balloon at a party and swigging champagne while at the wheel of her Range Rover.
The controversial videos recently uploaded to Snapchat were first revealed by the Daily Star.

It is understood that in the clips the 22-year-old can be seen at a party with friends, where a number of people were inhaling from balloons.
A second video allegedly shows the Ex-Millwall ace drinking champagne while driving her luxury Range Rover.
After the clips were shared on social media, Charlton Athletic confirmed that Wright’s registration had been cancelled and that she will no longer play for the Championship side.
A spokesperson for the Addicks told SunSport: “The club were made aware of the video and quickly investigated the incident.

“As a club we are disappointed with the behaviour which doesn’t represent the standards the team upholds.
“The player is remorseful and has now left the club.
“The club would like to make clear that although the behavior is not acceptable, the players welfare remains important to us and she will still have access to the club’s support channels if needed.”
Maddie was also investigated by former club Millwall in October last year after she filmed from the backseat while the driver puts a dog’s paws on the steering wheel.

Joshua Harris of road safety charity, Brake, told Sun Sport: “Driving and alcohol simply do not mix.
“When you’re behind the wheel you’re in charge of a potentially lethal weapon which requires full concentration and zero impairment to do so safely.
“We urge all drivers to never drink any amount of alcohol and drive – and certainly never do both at the same time.”

Chelsea boss Hayes jokes she is ‘not Bielsa’ ahead of Champions League clash with Benfica

EMMA HAYES has joked that she has not been sending staff up trees before Chelsea’s first-leg Champions League test with Benfica.
The Blues boss made the light-hearted quip in reference to the Spygate drama involving Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and Frank Lampard’s former side Derby County.

In 2019 the Elland Road gaffer was at the centre of a huge stir when a Leeds United employee was spotted watching a Rams training session.
Bielsa went on to claim all responsibility after admitting it was a common practice in his homeland Argentina.
However, Hayes, 44, whose players face a Benfica side making their tournament debut, is taking a conventional approach to research on her opponents.
Hayes said: “I’m not Marcelo Bielsa, I haven’t sent anyone up in the trees.

“For us we just have a wealth of different resources and I have got scouts and coaches who have been able to analyse.
“We have been watching Benfica and we have seen quite a lot of them but you don’t really know an opponent until it starts and you get a feel for what the game is like.”
Chelsea, unbeaten in the WSL so far this year, will be up against some stiff competition.
Aside from WSL rivals Manchester City,  other opponents include Wolfsburg and seven-times Champions League winners Lyon.

The French giants, who won the trophy last term, hold the record for the most wins in the tournament.
To date, a British club has triumphed once in the contest’s 19-year history with Arsenal claiming the trophy back in 2006-07.
And the furthest Chelsea have reached is the semi-finals in 2018-19.
Hayes believes the lack of success for Britain’s domestic sides may be down to investment.
The Blues boss added: “The level of investment for those teams in Europe has been significant.
“When you consider Lyon, the support and investment you cannot compare that to anyone else. Clubs like Barcelona, Wolfsburg and PSG.

“They are all on a financial level above the English clubs in terms of spend.
“However we have built a team over time and one that has gone to the latter stages in two semi-final appearances.
“I hope that the additions we made this year and the collective wisdom we’ve developed that we can progress one stage.”

Reading ace Carter opens up on England return dream and ‘bad luck’ injuries at Arsenal

DANIELLE CARTER says she would not wish the injury woes of her final two Arsenal seasons on her “worst enemy”.
And the pacy Reading ace aims to force her way back into England contention when Sarina Wiegman takes over from Phil Neville.

Carter, whose Royals team will play Manchester United in the WSL, battled with knee problems towards the end of her Arsenal career.
The former Gunners star, who enjoyed a trophy-laden 11-year spell in North London, saw her final two seasons overshadowed by a ligament rupture.
The tear which occurred in August 2019 was the second ACL injury in two terms for the fleet-footed striker.
And the WSL star had spent most of Arsenal’s 2018-19 title-winning season on the treatment table following similar issues in May 2018.

Carter, 27, told TalkSPORT 2:  “You definitely wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy. Complete bad luck.
“Both were contact injuries so they could have happened to anybody at any time.
“There was not necessarily anything I could have done differently. It was meant to be and it happened.
“Dealing with that mentally was tough. The second time it happened I knew I was in the last year of my contract at Arsenal.

“It was more difficult to accept knowing that I wasn’t going to be able to play for a new contract.
“That was difficult to take mentally, it had happened. And it was just a case of trying to stay strong as I wasn’t going to give up.”
Carter, who sealed a summer move to Reading after racking up 200 Gunners appearances, has scored twice for the Royals in nine games across all competitions.
And the striker, who netted six goals in her first four senior England games, hopes to give in-coming Lionesses boss Wiegman food for thought.
“Maybe when the new manager comes in she might give people a fresh start.

“If I am playing more and showing I can keep fit, then it is just a matter of how I perform for my club.
“I know I have got that pressure of needing to do well at club level to get recognised again at international level.
    “Ultimately that is the dream.”

Taylor’s USA star sidelined by knee injury as Manchester City begin chase for Champions League glory

GARETH TAYLOR’s Manchester City will be without crocked star Rose Lavelle when they play Göteborg in their first Champions League game this term.
The USA ace will be sidelined for a short spell following the results of a knee injury scan.

The World Cup-winning playmaker, 25, was seen hobbling on crutches during City’s win against Everton after hurting her knee following a tackle.
Taylor, 47, said: “The crutches were a precaution so it probably looked worse than what it is.
“She has had quite a few niggles here and there. She went away to the USA camp and was limited in what she could do due to a slight niggle she had previously.
“It has been a little bit of a stop-start with Rose, but she is pretty robust, pretty resilient and she will bounce back.

“We were just trying to get Rose into a decent vein of consistency with games.”
While Lavelle will miss out, Lauren Hemp could make an appearance at City’s opener at a tournament they have been semi-finalists in twice.
However, Taylor warned he will be managing the England starlet’s comeback carefully following her return to action from a hamstring injury.

The Man City boss said: “We need to manage Lauren in the right way.

“It’s great to have her back but to expect her to be involved in four games in 14 days is going to be too much.”
When it comes to getting insider knowledge of what it takes to win the biggest club prize in women’s football in Europe, City’s players are likely to turn to team-mates Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood.
The England duo were part of a Lyon side who won the competition for the seventh time last term, making them the most successful team in the contest’s history
And Ellie Roebuck, who is up for a FIFA best goalkeeper award, believes their experience will be a bonus for City.
The City stopper said: “They know what it takes to win. And I’m sure they will demand we play to the standard required.

Ellie Roebuck reckons Lucy Bronze’s Champions League-winning expertise will be a bonus for Man City Credit: Getty Images – Getty
“With their experiences of recently winning the Champions League, they will know what to expect –  especially Lucy, she has won it on several occasions.”
City’s first leg tie with Swedish champs Göteborg will be the first of four tricky fixtures they will play over 11 days before Christmas.
A game with Carla Ward’s Birmingham, followed by the second leg – and a clash with title rivals Arsenal – are City’s remaining matches in 2020.
And Taylor believes his side will be relishing the end of year run.
“I love it from a coaching perspective. And I’m pretty certain the players prefer more games than not having enough.
“At this moment in time, bar a couple of knocks here and there, we’ve got a squad that’s able to cope.

Ellie Roebuck and her City team-mates are targeting Champions League triumph Credit: Getty Images – Getty
“I’m comfortable with these games these days and the win against Everton to this game against Göteborg is a quick turn around.
“We get an extra day obviously, before we play Arsenal.
“But then again, we’re straight into a Wednesday game on the return against Gothenburg so it’s full-on.”

Aston Villa ace Asante and Watford’s Deeney in walk-off call after Millwall boos incidents

ANITA ASANTE has questioned whether players may need to stage a walk-off should they face terrace boos and jeers for taking a knee.
And Troy Deeney reckons he would be prepared to leave the pitch with his Watford team-mates if any heard racist chants from the stands.

Asante’s and Deeney’s comments came after a section of Millwall’s fans were condemned by their club for booing players kneeling ahead of their 1-0 loss to Derby.
The incident overshadowed the return of more than 2,000 supporters to The Den for the first time since the pandemic.
Aston Villa defender Asante –  a vocal opponent of discrimination in the game – is among the WSL stars who criticised the jeering of players making the symbolic gesture.
On Twitter, the former Lionesses star said: “It’s sad to say this but, maybe it’s time for players to walk off the pitch.

“Booing at taking the knee is in direct opposition to equality and anti-racism.”

    — Anita Asante (@NicenNeetz) December 6, 2020

SunSport columnist Deeney, whose team face Millwall this month, says he plans to ignore any jeers from the stands.
However, the Hornets forward has drawn the line at direct racial abuse and says he is ready to leave the pitch if he is on the receiving end of any from the terraces.
Deeney told TalkSPORT: “When they boo, I’ll still be there.

“But if it gets to that line of racial things being said to me or my players, we’ve already had a conversation about what happens. We walk, simple.
“We’re not here to be racially abused, we’re here to play football and entertain.
“There’s a lot of things you can call me. You can call me a big head and say I’ve got teeth like a shark but if you racially abuse me, I’m not going to stand there and take it.
“If I turn around and get physical with that person, I get in trouble and the club gets in trouble, so the only thing I can do in that moment is report it and leave.
“That’s all I can do, so that’s what we will do.”
Since June players and officials have been taking a knee ahead of games in support of the fight against racism.
Some quarters sections have attempted to tie the gesture with the Black Lives Matter political movement.

However, Premier League officials have issued statements to say there are no connections between the two.
Footage of Millwall fans jeering kneeling players went viral on social media ahead of their team’s loss to Wayne Rooney’s Rams.
The incident provoked an anti-racism row with interim Derby boss Rooney and forward Colin Kazim-Richards criticising fans’ behaviour.

Sam Kerr nets hat-trick as Blues beat West Ham in first game of season in front of home fans

EMMA HAYES hailed “selfless” Sam Kerr for giving Chelsea’s fans a winning welcome home by grabbing a hat-trick against West Ham.
But the Blues were given a second-half fright with an own goal and a Rachel Daly strike before dispatching the Hammers.

The 3-2 result left Hayes’s players 27 games undefeated in the top-flight.
And it leaves the Hammers – who played their first game under interim boss Billy Stewart – third from bottom.
Hayes said: “Sam is a great player and one that always puts the team ahead of herself.
“We have been working hard with her behind the scenes to make sure that Sam recognises when to be selfish and when to be selfless.

“I could say the same about the other forwards and I give real credit to Beth (England) and Fran (Kirby) too for Sam’s hat-trick.”
The derby encounter was the first game Chelsea played in front of their home crowd since the Covid crisis curtailed the 2019-20 season.

And Hayes paid tribute to Blues fans for giving her side “momentum” and cheering Fran Kirby’s return following an ankle injury.
Hayes added: “For me, there was no coincidence in the momentum. Hearing the crowd drove the team.

“Fran has waited for this for a while and has been desperate to see the fans. For her it is another big milestone.”
West Ham started positively with two corners and a dangerous Daly free-kick causing problems in the opening ten minutes.
But it was the champs who netted first with Fran Kirby feeding a neat low cross to Sam Kerr for Chelsea’s 15th-minute opener.
However the gutsy Hammers refused to be bowed.
And they should have snatched an equaliser two minutes later with Daly forcing a superb shot block from Ann Katrin-Berger.
It was only two minutes into the second-half when Birthday girl Daly levelled proceedings with a tap-in following a dazzling run and cross from Adriana Leon.

And it looked as if the game was put to bed when Kerr netted twice in the final 35 minutes to extend title-holders lead to 3-1.
However, Magdalena Eriksson’s deflection saw the Hammers reduce the deficit before their defeat.
Stewart said: “To still be in with a chance of getting a goal against Chelsea with the last kick of the game shows a massive, massive plus for this club.”

Rehanne Skinner toasts debut as Tottenham boss after club’s first win of season over Brighton with Alex Morgan scoring

REHANNE SKINNER toasted her opening day on the job as Tottenham bagged their FIRST win of the season – with Alex Morgan scoring her first goal for Spurs.
Phil Neville’s former England No2 replaced Juan Amoros and Karen Hills as head coach after the popular duo were axed two weeks ago – and it seems it has already paid off.

Kerys Harrop’s mouth-watering free kick had put the host’s ahead before Inessa Kaagman’s spot-kick pulled one back.
Angela Addison doubled the home side’s lead before USA World Cup winner Morgan wrapped things up with her first Spurs goal since her loan move from Orlando Pride in September.
Skinner said: “It couldn’t have gone better! I really enjoyed it.
“This is something I’ve been looking forward to, and game day is the best day of the week so for me it felt really comfortable and relaxed.

“All the work we’ve put in I was confident with. This has moved us in a direction we wanted to move in.
“Alex has obviously been building her time on the pitch for the last couple of months.
“She’s getting more and more back to where she wants to be and it’s going to take little bits of time and opportunities like today will help to get her back quicker.”
The opener all started with Morgan who cleverly won a dubious free-kick on the edge of the area after a light shove from Victoria Williams.

Kerys Harrop stood over it and sent an exquisite strike dipping and curling into the top corner on 11 minutes.
But tempers flared when Alanna Kennedy’s reckless high boot on Aileen Whelan prompted referee Emily Heaslip to point to the spot.

Kaagman fired home the equaliser before Kennedy nearly redeemed herself after cracking a peach of a free-kick agonizingly wide.
Addison turned out to be the hero after her twinkle toes twisted inside and out of two Brighton defenders as well as keeper Megan Walsh to slot home on the 63rd minute.
Hope Powell’s side hit back strongly with Kaagman rattling the woodwork from distance.
But the North Londoners cranked up the pressure and Ria Percivel was clattered to the floor by Williams with Heaslip once again pointing to the spot in the dying moments.
Morgan bravely stepped up after missing the decisive penalty against Arsenal in the League Cup a couple of weeks ago.
Seagulls chief Hope Powell said: “Credit must go to Tottenham they really came at us I think it was competitive, but Spurs were the better team and the result reflects that. We lacked quality on the ball.”
