      Gabby Logan has brilliant response after Alan Sugar questions lack of male commentators on BBC’s Women’s Euros coverage

      GABBY LOGAN hit back brilliantly at Alan Sugar after he complained about a lack of male presence on the BBC’s coverage of the Women’s Euros.Sugar, 75, voiced his concern about the lack of men in the commentary box while suggesting “symbolic” female commentators are used to cover the men’s game.

      But Logan shot down Sugar’s claim, pointing out there are men covering the Euros including Ian Wright, Jonathan Pearce and Jonas Eidevall.
      Sugar wrote on Twitter: “I am watching the women football and notice that ALL the commentators are women.
      “I also note when men’s football is on there is a symbolic female commentator to cover the broadcaster’s arse. Should I complain there should be a male commentator in women’s football.”
      The tweet sparked a backlash with Logan leading the way by defending the BBC’s pundit and commentator selection.

      Logan replied saying: “We have plenty of men working on this tournament Lord Sugar, don’t fret you’re not being eradicated.
      And in response to another Twitter user defending Sugar Logan said: “Plenty of jobs for the lads…..Jonas Eidevall was in the studio for the first England match and he and Ian Wright are doing Monday’s England game and I think you’ll find it’s the very essence of masculinity JP (Jonathan Pearce) on comms tonight.”
      Logan’s comments have been echoed by both men and women who work in the industry, as well as fans who have watched the coverage at home.

      SWEDEN kick off their quest to reach a European Championship final for the first time since the tournament began in 1984.They face a Netherlands side bidding to win the contest for the second successive time following their 2017 triumph.

      The Bramall Lane clash, to be aired live on BBC One at 8:00 pm, is the second of two Group C openers with Portugal drawing 2-2 with Switzerland.
      Sweden – beaten finalists at the Rio and Tokyo Olympics in 2016 and last August – will be hoping to claim their first major tournament win in 38 years.
      But they will be up against a Dutch side featuring an array of attacking talent.

      The Arsenal hotshot, 25, is currently her national team’s record goal scorer.
      The forward made history in June 2019 when she became her nation’s all-time top markswoman with a tally of 60 goals after netting a brace against Cameroon.
      And Miedema helped her national team to their first-ever major trophy win five years ago.

      She was on the scoresheet when her team, then coached by Sarina Wiegman, dispatched Denmark 4-2 to win the 2017 Euros.
      In March the Gunners star made history again when she became the first player to notch up 100 WSL goal contributions.
      Lieke Martens (Paris Saint-Germain) – Winger
      Martens finished the 2017 Euros as the contest’s third-highest scorer behind compatriot Miedema and Golden Boot winner Jodie Taylor.

      Back then the forward, 29, won a Player of the Tournament gong for her impressive displays in attack.
      The former Barcelona star has earned plaudits for her flair and trickery on the wing.
      She was among the aces who impressed during the club’s 4-0 Champions League final defeat of Chelsea last year.
      Since her 2011 international debut, Martens has notched up 55 goals in 136 appearances.

      When speaking to BBC Sport, the England skipper said:
      “What an occasion. We connected with the fans really well. The three points is all I care about, though.
      “I kept the emotion at bay and focused on the pitch.
      “The communication with each other becomes harder [when the noise is so loud] but I’d take this.
      “We were definitely not at our best but we have something to work with for the next game.
      “Tournament football is different. We should have scored more but it’s knowing that you grow as the tournament goes on.
      “We’re off to a good start and we’ll be ready for the next game.”

      When speaking to BBC Sport, the England boss said:
      “It’s the first game in the tournament and so important to win the game and get a good start.
      “We have shown different faces in this game. Some good, some not so good.
      “In the second half we were too sloppy on the ball and not good enough in the transition.
      “We should have scored a few times but we didn’t put the chances away.
      “Don’t underestimate Austria, they are a very strong team. Overall I’m just happy.
      “It was a great goal [by Beth Mead] and a great finish. Staying calm was the hard part as the ball bounced and she had to control it.
      “I’m not frustrated [that we didn’t score more goals] but we can do better than this.
      “We had some huge plays but we have to be a little calmer in the final stage.
      “We have to recover and then we will review the match and see Norway and prepare for them.
      “The atmosphere was so incredible. It’s what we want.”
