ENGLAND take on Germany in an historic Women’s Euro 2022 final TODAY – and German captain Alexandra Popp has been ruled OUT just before kick off.England boss Sarina Wiegman has kept the same XI that has started ALL of the tournament for the final in front of a RECORD crowd at Wembley Stadium for a European Championship match.
The terrific Lionesses have scored 20 and conceded 1 before today and are in menacing form, but the Germans will be out to spoil the party.
All eyes are now on the sold-out stadium for the showpiece final, and we’ve got ALL of the updates right here.

England hoping to make goalscoring history
The Lionesses are one goal away from levelling Germany’s all-time goal record at a single tournament.
They are in good stead, too. The last four Euro finals have produced an average of 4.75 goals per game.
Records on the line
This afternoon marks Germany’s ninth European Championship final appearance. They have won all previous eight, including a 6-2 thumping of England in 2006.
However, England boss Sarina Wiegman has never lost a Euro final as manager.
Somebody’s record will be broken today.
The Premier League is watching
There have been countess messages of support on social media for the players. Manchester United’s David De Gea and England’s Harry Kane are among those to wish their luck.
The race for the golden boot
England’s Bethany Mead and Germany’s Alexandra Popp are tied at the top of the goalscoring charts, with six goals each.
Both players will be desperate to add to their tally this afternoon and lift the golden boot trophy.

The journey to Wembley
With all the excitement of the match ahead, it is worth remembering how the players got here, if only to boast.
The Lionesses got their tournament underway with a narrow 1-0 victory over Norway before a resounding 8-0 demolition of Norway. Next up was Northern Ireland, who couldn’t stop Sarina Wiegman’s team running away with the group in a 5-0 win.
England then took on Spain, showing their metal in extra time before marching on to the semi-finals against Sweden. Four goals later, here we are.

All 90,000 seats will be filled inside Wembley for this afternoon’s final with the majority taken by England supporters.
The tournament organisers announced earlier today that the final is going to be the most-attended women’s football match in history!

Euro 2022 final’s Ukrainian referee Kateryna Monzul spent five days living in bunker in Kharkiv after Russia’s invasion

TODAY’S Euro 2022 final referee is Ukrainian – and spent five days living in an underground bunker after the Russian invasion. Kateryna Monzul will step out at a sold-out Wembley this afternoon to oversee England vs Germany.

But just months ago, she was in hiding with her family in her hometown of Kharkiv as Russian forces raided the country.
Monzul headed to her parents’ home and took shelter before fleeing Ukraine with her two sisters and their three children, eventually settling in Italy.
They drove through Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic before arriving in Germany and then Italy, continuing her refereeing.
Reflecting on the journey from Ukraine to Italy and then to the Euros in England, Monzul said: “When the war started, nobody could believe it.

The 41-year-old was the first female ref to take charge of an England senior men’s match and a Ukraine Premier League match,
An international official since 2004, she has also reffed in the Europa League, Europa Conference League, Nations League and three Women’s World Cups.
Monzul will become the first official from Ukraine to referee a Women’s Euro final – and revealed the pride at calling home to tell her family about the landmark appointment which will see Sarina Wiegman’s side attempting to write history.
She said she realised “how important it was for them as well as for myself” when she “hear their happy and positive reaction”.
‘HEART BEATING FAST’
Monzul added: “This is a really emotional moment for me, and I’m enjoying it.
“My heart is already beating fast. It’s the moment when a dream you have comes true.
“But I must say that it’s also a moment where I feel responsibility because I’ll be refereeing an important football game.” More

Supporters started flocking to boozers early this afternoon to cheer on the team, who are on the brink of making women’s football history.
Box Park in Wembley is packed out with excited drinkers cheering the team on.
Wembley Way erupted in a sea of red and white earlier tonight as fans in face paint and flags made their way up to the stadium.
The Lionesses heartbreakingly lost out to Germany in the final of Euro 2009 with a crushing 6-2 defeat.

Sarina Wiegman’s squad have captured the nation’s imagination. The Euros have highlighted how far attitudes have changed to women’s sport.
More than 500,000 tickets sold — more than doubling the total attendance for any previous women’s Euros.
For the players, there has been progress too. We now have some bespoke sponsorship and broadcast rights deals, the England men’s and women’s senior players are now paid the same match fee, and clubs are introducing improved contracts. Football is the most played grassroots team sport for women. The success can only be built on.
The Government has supported the Euro 2022 tournament with £4.6 million.
Now schools must listen to which sports kids want to play.

Sainsbury’s release clever billboard to support England Lionesses ahead of Euro 2022 final but can you work out riddle?

SAINSBURY’S have released a clever billboard to encourage support for England’s Women ahead of their European Championship final. The Lionesses will play Germany at 5pm on Sunday in front of a crowd of up to 90,000 in Wembley Stadium.

The team’s performances have been praised for their work in both bringing attention to the women’s game and inspiring the next generation of future England stars.
Ahead of the final, supermarket Sainbury’s have released a billboard to encourage support.
However, the billboard has been done in the form of a fun riddle, with three pictures of fruit and veg which could be typically brought in the store.
The first two are root vegetables swede and carrot, while on the right is a lime.
