As a result, Obiang missed the entire 2021/22 season, which saw Sassuolo finish middle of the pack in 11th.
But in a promising turn of events, Obiang made his long-awaited return to action in their 5-0 Serie A win over Salernitana.
Obiang came off the bench in the 80th minute, replacing Davide Frattesi.
He said on Instagram: “And finally after 504 days we are officially back in Serie A.

“Honestly, thank you very much to all of you who are always supporting me, to those who have helped me during the most difficult periods, my family obviously, @sassuolocalcio and team-mates who are the best that’s ever touched me.
“We continue the fight and hopefully it will be the beginning of my new football youth.”
Obiang’s return was labelled “the best news of Sassuolo”, and West Ham fans are just as chuffed for him.
One Hammer said on Twitter: “Good luck lovely man. Sending love from East London.”

Another tweeted: “Things we love to see. Absolute sensational lad who loves the club.”
Obiang’s love for West Ham didn’t end following his 2019 departure for Sassuolo.
In fact, he very much remains a fan favourite in East London – especially after playing a part in Gianluca Scamacca’s £30.5million summer transfer.
Hammers boss Davide Moyes sought out a character report from Obiang on then Sassuolo team-mate Scamacca before making a move.
Moyes revealed in August: “We had great encouragement about him as well from our former player Pedro Obiang, who played with him at Sassuolo.
“He told us about his character and from what we’ve seen we’ve been really pleased although like all overseas players, they need time to settle in.”
Speaking to West Ham’s club media, Scamacca himself admitted: “I know Pedro Obiang because we played together in Sassuolo and he was here and he speaks very, very well about the West Ham.”
Obiang would’ve been pleased to see his pal star in West Ham’s 2-0 win over Wolves at the London Stadium on Sunday.
Scamacca scored a screamer from outside the box to register his first Premier League goal.
The Italy international, 23, also has three goals in the Europa Conference League.
West Ham captain Declan Rice knows there’s more to come from the forward, having seen him smash goals in during training.
Rice said after the game: “He has probably scored about 20 worldies since he’s been here, and I’ve just gone: ‘wow; he can hit a ball.’

“When he gets the space, he can really deliver for us. So, I am buzzing that he scored. But his all-around contribution today, he really linked the game well, and he looks to be a real positive threat for us.
“Gianluca has got one of the best strikes of a ball I have ever seen. It’s crazy. When it went into the top corner there was no surprise at all.”  More

Edwards’ last game in charge was the frustrating 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland after which Watford were booed off at Vicarage Road.
Watford issued a brutal 72-word statement, which read: “Watford FC has relieved Rob Edwards of his duties as Head Coach.
“The Board of Watford Football Club wishes to place on record its thanks to Rob for all of his work since his appointment and wish him and his assistant Richie Kyle – who will also leave the club – all the very best for their future careers in coaching and management.
“The Hornets will confirm its newly-appointed Head Coach in due course.”

And by “due course”, Watford meant 16 minutes later as Bilic was unveiled as the new boss.
The Croat is expected to take charge of Watford’s next game which is away to Stoke City next Sunday.
Owner Gino Pozzo says Edwards was given “enough time to show us the identity of his team” but ultimately came up short.
Pozzo said on the sacking of Edwards and the quick appointment of Bilic: “As with all decisions taken by the Board, I believe this change to be in the best interests of the club.

“We felt Rob had enough time to show us the identity of his team, however performances haven’t reflected our hopes and ambitions.
“Now we must move forward, and, in Slaven Bilic, we have secured the services of an experienced coach who has recent experience of promotion to the Premier League.”
Bilic’s last role came in China at Beijing Guoan FC.
He rejected a chance to manage Greek giants Olympiacos while several other clubs had approached the Croatian.
He will become Watford’s 17th permanent head coach in the last decade.
Watford’s goal this season is to get back into the Premier League via automatic promotion.
However, after just one win in their last seven league games, Watford sit six points off second place Norwich.
Sheffield United are currently leading the Championship on 23 points.

Edwards was only appointed in May, replacing Roy Hodgson following Watford’s relegation from the Premier League.
He was previously in charge of Forest Green Rovers where during his year in charge he got them promoted from League Two. More

And the Ukrainian international already has a number of teams monitoring his situation.
Now Jeunes Footeux say that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle and David Moyes at West Ham are plotting a swoop.
However, they are also joined by fellow Premier League side Wolves.
The report states that Tsygankov “isn’t lacking suitors” due to his “interesting profile” and versatility, with the ace equally capable of playing down the right and left.
    READ MORE FOOTBALL
The prospect of getting him for nothing next summer or for a cut-price deal in January is proving to be very attractive.
And the ace is unlikely to demand a huge wage package either – which is also a big bonus.
Wolves boss Bruno Lage is expected to lose Adama Traore as his contract is expiring at the end of the season.
That could mean that he views Tsygankov as an ideal replacement for the Spanish international winger.

West Ham are also looking to bolster their attack, as are Newcastle.
Both clubs may decide to try and bring in reinforcements once the transfer window opens in January.
And that could also lead to them trying to snap up Tsygankov for a cut-price figure.
But the star is also wanted elsewhere.
This latest report also states that German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund are keen as are Bundesliga rivals Leipzig. More

West Ham prepare £12million transfer bid for Sheffield United defender Egan with David Moyes desperate for defender

Moyes tried and failed to sign other centre-backs at the 11th hour and eventually missed out.
He still has that need, however, and will revisit the deal in January.
Blades are sure to hold out for a big fee for Egan — who will be 30 next month —  but the Bramall Lane money men may consider selling despite being on course for a return to the Premier League.
Egan may also fancy guaranteed promotion to the top flight with West Ham rather than earn it on the pitch.

If the Irons land Egan, it would open the door for Craig Dawson to leave after his hopes of a move collapsed last month.
The 32-year-old centre-half was a target for Aston Villa — as SunSport revealed — but Steven Gerrard found a cheaper alternative.
Wolves will also take another look at Dawson after missing out.
West Ham wanted £5m plus £2m extras for Dawson — but that will drop now as he is in the final year of his contract.

Dawson made his first appearance of the season on Thursday against FCSB.

The Hammers lost 2-1 to the Blues on Saturday at Stamford Bridge after Maxwel Cornet’s 90th-minute strike was controversially chalked off after match official Andy Madley consulted with the VAR monitor.
Madley made the controversial decision after Jarrod Bowen appeared to have collided with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the build-up before Cornet converted from the loose ball.
Moyes was enraged as he was seen confronting the ref on the pitch and according to talkSPORT, the Scottish tactician carried on the row in the referee’s room before his fiery post-match interview.
The ex-Manchester United boss said: “You have seen it, it is a scandalous decision, absolutely rotten from one of the supposedly elite referees – it doesn’t say much about whoever sent him over from VAR as well – it is an unbelievable decision against us.

“We feel we got back to 2-2 and it was not down to anything we have done.
“I support a lot of the VAR stuff, I actually think the goalkeeper dives, he is faking an injury because he cannot get to the next one – he did the same on the first goal as well.
“The referee somehow gets that so wrong it is incredible.”
However, it has been decided Moyes will not be punished and will be in the dugout for West Ham’s clash with Newcastle next Sunday at the London Stadium.

And according to the Metro, manager David Moyes has had a late inquiry over Wan-Bissaka knocked back by Manchester United.
They claim Ten Hag is a fan of the 24-year-old and wants to keep him as “back up” for Diogo Dalot.
Despite this, the Englishman was left out of the squad entirely for Thursday night’s clash with Leicester.
It’s unknown how much West Ham were reportedly willing to pay the Red Devils for the former England Under-21 international.

Wan-Bissaka was United’s first-choice right-back for two seasons following his £50million arrival from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019.
But he’s yet to impress Ten Hag enough to be handed a starting berth this season, with his sole appearance lasting a meagre four minutes.
Ten Hag, however, is a self-professed fan of the wingback – who he insists will feature plenty this season.
The Dutchman said this week: “Aaron showed in the past that he is a constant factor at United. I have trust in him.
“I haven’t seen him that much because he was injured in pre-season.

“What I heard, he is a good option. He’s been training and needs to compete for the position.”
