How Arsenal could line up on Prem return against West Ham but will Arteta make formation change after Jesus injury?

But their starting XI for the visit of the Hammers will differ from the side that beat Wolves before the World Cup-enforced international break.
That’s down to a handful of injuries and players participating in Qatar 2022.
Summer signing Gabriel Jesus will miss the match after undergoing knee surgery – which is expected to keep him on the sidelines until March.
Jesus’ fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli will likely deputise for him.

Reiss Nelson will also miss the match after picking up a thigh injury during the Gunners’ 2-0 defeat to Juventus last week.
Emile Smith Rowe is in contention to return to the fold following his recovery from a groin injury.
Despite missing all three of the north Londoners’ mid-season friendly, left-back Oleksandr Zinechenko is also a potential starter.
But Kieran Tierney is likely to start ahead of the Ukranian, who is understood to be still dealing with the lingering effects of a calf strain.

The absence of Jesus could prompt Gunners boss Mikel Arteta to tweak his 4-3-3 formation.
Martinelli will likely be the focal point of the attack, with Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka just behind him.
Predicted Arsenal XI to face West Ham: Ramsdale; White; Saliba; Gabriel Tierney; Xhaka, Partey, Odegaard; Smith Rowe, Saka; Martinelli
How Arsenal could line up against the Hammers
Arsenal currently lead defending Premier League champions Manchester City by five points going into the frantic festive fixture period.
And Arteta has hinted he’s not against the idea of dipping into the transfer market to ensure his troops’ title charge doesn’t fall flat.
The Spaniard said of Jesus’ injury: “It’s a huge blow for us, obviously.
“He’s such an important player: he’s brought something very different to the team and it’s impossible to replace him.
“But we have other players, other alternatives and we’ll try to get that sorted.
“The transfer window is another option.
“I think [Jesus] is a unique player but Eddie [Nketiah] has incredible qualities as well for the way we want to play.

“We have other alternatives in that we can play Martinelli up front as well.
“We are currently a little bit short in terms of upfront positions but getting Emile [Smith Rowe] back is going to be a big one.” More

Man Utd’s forgotten £50m man Wan-Bissaka wanted by West Ham in loan transfer after playing just FOUR minutes all season

WEST HAM are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on loan in the January transfer window. The Red Devils defender, 25, was told by the club at the end of last season that he would be allowed to leave given a lack of game time.

But he opted to stay at Old Trafford, a decision that has garnered just four minutes of football under new boss Erik ten Hag.
Now the £50million man is being monitored by a host of Premier League clubs, with SunSport revealing earlier this month that Wolves are in the frame to sign him.
Leeds have also been linked with a move for the England U21 international.
However, Manchester Evening News understand that West Ham could be the frontrunners as they have a strong relationship with Unique Sports Management – Wan-Bissaka’s representatives.

Hammers stars Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Maxwel Cornet are all represented by the same organisation.
And Wan-Bissaka could be a healthy solution for West Ham boss David Moyes as he continues to juggle right-back options.
Vladimir Coufal, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer have all been trialled in the position for the East London outfit.
But West Ham’s form has been very inconsistent and they went into the World Cup break in 16th place with just four wins from 14 games.

However, they will have to fend off competition from Wan-Bissaka’s former club Crystal Palace after SunSport revealed last month that Man Utd will allow him to return if a deal can be reached.
Patrick Vieira would take their former defender back but a loan move is the only way he can afford him – and that will take some negotiating.
Palace may have to pick up all of Wan-Bissaka’s £80,000-a-week wages, making it an expensive deal despite the absence of a transfer fee.
The player will also want his long-term future sorted, adding a further complication to negotiating a return to Selhurst Park. More

It is a major blow to West Ham’s prospects in attack, with Michail Antonio not being named in the squad due to muscle strain.
One wrote on Twitter: “Pure and utter reject. Don’t know why the f*** he’s gone in on Scamacca like that in a friendly. Useless.
“No Antonio in the squad through injury today either.”
Another added: “Ex West Ham defender Issa Diop has just stupidly injured West Ham’s £45m Italian striker Scamacca in a mid-season friendly. What is even the point anymore?”

A third said: “Hahahahahaha Antonio and Scamacca down you can’t write this.”
A fourth unhappy Hammer said: “Sometimes I feel like we’re the only club that get injuries during crucial stages of the season….”
Fulham fans felt justice was served after Scamacca scored a controversial goal which they deemed a handball when David Moyes’ side beat them 3-1 in October.
A Whites fan said: “If we’ve ended up nobbling Scamacca after he scored that handball goal against us.”

Aguerd suffered an injury during the warm-up and had to be replaced by Achraf Dari.
The defender was brought off in tears during Morocco’s shock last-16 win against Spain following a groin problem.
Aguerd subsequently missed the quarter-final against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.
He watched on as Youssef En-Nesyri’s headed effort won the game.

It meant Morocco became the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final.
Although the match against reigning champions France got off to a horror start.
Not only did Aguerd pull out before kick off, Morocco were behind after just five minutes.
Left-back Theo Hernandez opened the scoring after a scramble in the penalty box.

After 20 minutes, Morocco were hit with another injury setback as captain Romain Saiss made way.
The former Wolves centre-half carried a thigh injury into the game and limped off.
He was replaced by midfielder Selim Amallah, meaning Morocco had to change shape from a back five to 4-3-3.

Despite creating a couple of openings, they struggled to lay a glove on the French as the defending champions controlled the game.
And when sub Randal Kolo Muani tapped in from Mbappe’s scuffed shot, Morocco’s fate was sealed as France set up a final showdown with Argentina with a 2-0 win.

Manager David Moyes is under pressure to turn things around quickly after the Prem returns on Boxing Day.
In order to aid that, the club are looking to sign one or two forwards in the January window to boost the number of goals in the squad.
Despite a huge summer outlay, Moyes has not been able to get his new-look forward line to click this season.
The Hammers were one of the big spenders in the summer window, forking out over £160million on new signings including a club record £51millon deal for Brazil star Lucas Paqueta, who is yet to score in eight Prem appearances.

West Ham also spent £30.5million on Italian striker, Gianluca Scamacca, who has just two Premier League goals to his name so far this term.
Maxwell Cornet arrived from Burnley for £17.5million and made five league appearances without a goal before suffering an injury before the World Cup break.
It is not clear how much the West Ham board will give Moyes to spend in the January window.
However, the Hammers are also looking to the future as they look to secure a deal for Brazilian defender, Luizao.

The Sao Paulo defender, 20, is out of contract at the end of January in South America with the Hammers looking to bring him to London on a free transfer.
There were fears further spending would have to happen at the back following another injury to Nayef Aguerd at the World Cup.
With teammate Kurt Zouma already having undergone knee surgery, Aguerd, signed for £30million in the summer before missing the opening months of the season through injury, hobbled off during Morocco’s shock last-16 victory over Spain.
However, the defender’s groin injury is not as bad as first feared.West Ham assistant Mark Warburton said on Tuesday: “Nayef has made contact with us already and fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it looked.
“We saw he reached for his groin but he’s quite happy tonight so hopefully he’ll have it assessed and have a scan in the morning and, fingers crossed, it’s not too bad.” More

West Ham fans need to lay off David Moyes after poor start and have ‘patience’, says Stuart Pearce

STUART PEARCE has told disgruntled West Ham fans to embrace their inner Take That and “have a little patience” with David Moyes and his faltering side. The Hammers find themselves just two points off the relegation zone after 14 Premier League games.
David Moyes’ West Ham are under pressure to get resultsCredit: PA
Ex-Hammers player and coach Stuart Pearce has called for calm
Despite a mini-upturn in form, they have lost three of their last five outings.
A run of eight wins on the spin in the Europa Conference League has kept the boo-boys at bay, but they returned in force after Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
They were particularly vocal following a pair of Moyes second half subs, booing the decision to take off Said Benrahma and sarcastically jeering Tomas Soucek being switched out.
Having reached the Europa League semis last season, many expected West Ham to be challenging for a Euro spot once more this campaign, especially after splashing out around £160m on eight new signings this summer.
But boss Moyes has so far struggled to get his new faces consistently firing, with the form of £30.5m Gianluca Scamacca and £36.4m Lucas Paqueta falling off in recent weeks.

Yet just like boyband ‘Take That’ sang in their noughties hit “Patience”, ex-West Ham defender Pearce – who left his position as first team coach under Moyes in May – has called for just that amid frustration in the stands.
Ahead of their Carabao Cup third round clash with Blackburn at the London Stadium on Wednesday night, the 60-year-old said: “Football is a situation where you can’t expect, wherever you are today, to be good enough for tomorrow. It goes past you very quickly.
“As we stand, analysing West Ham’s start, if you turn two defeats into victories, all of a sudden they are top 10, winning in Europe.
“And if they beat Blackburn, you’d think you have had a really solid start.

“You need to be patient. You don’t furnish the squad with the players David has bought without giving them time to settle into this country and get into a rhythm.
“One or two players just need to find a bit of form. Jarrod has not hit the ground running as he did last season.
“The team are evolving. Since Moyes walked through the door, he has lifted the expectation up, so don’t lose track of that. West Ham’s best form is yet to come.”
West Ham’s last Prem game before the league breaks for the World Cup in Qatar is at home to Leicester – where three points could potentially take them as high as 11th.
Moyes is expecting to lose Declan Rice with an England call-up, as well as Nayef Aguerd (Morocco), Lucas Paqueta (Brazil), Thilo Kehrer (Germany) and Alphonse Areola (France).

The tide is turning at West Ham after the loss to Crystal Palace and boss Moyes is at risk of being swept out to sea

THE tide is turning at West Ham following Sunday’s limp Premier League loss at home to Crystal Palace.Hammers boss David Moyes was once a man immune from criticism following sixth and seventh-placed finishes, as well as a Europa League semi-final.

West Ham were booed off at full-timeCredit: Reuters
Such achievements have been used as a stick to swat away and silence any warranted criticism of Moyes and his team, who have under-performed domestically for close to a year now.
The Hammers have ten Prem victories in 2022: Crystal Palace, Norwich twice, Watford, Wolves twice, Villa twice, Fulham and Bournemouth.
West Ham are a team who lack invention and intensity.
They’re far too slow in possession, and far too comfortable letting their opposition have the ball, home and away, whether it’s Manchester City or Crystal Palace.
    READ MORE ON WEST HAM
Far too often, Moyes’ men are trying to go from point A to point C, resulting in hopeless balls down the touchline or up to an isolated Gianluca Scamacca.
The big money summer signing was then hooked at half-time and replaced by Michail Antonio, who appears to still be recovering from being ran into the ground in the last 18 months as the Hammers’ only striker.
Such tactics resulted in groans from the West Ham faithful and when goalscorer Said Benrahma was subbed off with half-an-hour to go, there were audible boos as well as jeers for out-of-form Tomas Soucek’s much-needed departure from play.
Goals by Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise secured three valuable points on the road for Palace but for Moyes, his seat should be starting to get very hot.

Moyes spoke in depth about needing to change the way West Ham play.
Over £150million spent in the summer, bringing in players such as Brazil’s starting No10 in Lucas Paqueta and Italy’s Scamacca, but there’s no signs change is coming.
It’s not just Moyes’ tactics which has fans turning – it’s his blind favouritism too.
Benrahma was yet again targeted in Moyes’ post-match comments.
The Scotsman questioned Benrahma’s impact but the radio silence continued on the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Soucek.
Bowen, in particular, appears to be untouchable, despite being West Ham’s most out-of-form attacker this season.
The winger looks a shadow of his former self, and if there wasn’t a 26-man World Cup squad, or injuries, Bowen would need Christmas to come early to stand a chance of playing for England in Qatar.

Sunday’s loss leaves the Hammers two points above the relegation zone and they have a date with in-form Leicester next at the soulless bowl.
Moyes will undoubtedly be the man in the dugout next Saturday – lose that and the West Ham overlords need to start having some uncomfortable conversations.
