Reims ace Romanenko recalls feelings of ‘complete horror’ after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

TANYA ROMANENKO has opened up on her fears for the lives of her relatives in Ukraine following Russia’s brutal military invasion.And the Ukraine striker felt ‘like a zombie’ during the first three days of the conflict after sleepless nights worrying about her mother, brother and father.

Romanenko, who plays for French top-flight side Reims, shared her reflections in an emotional interview on US podcast show Men in Blazers on Wednesday.
It comes almost a month after Russia began its violent attack, an invasion that occurred two days after Ukraine’s triumph in the Turkish Women’s Cup in February.
Romanenko, 31, who has 42 international caps, said: “After the tournament, I returned to France to Stade de Reims.

Romanenko and her team, who are coached by ex-Barcelona boss Lluis Cortes, were due to face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier clash in Ukraine in April.
But this week Uefa confirmed that the game has been pushed back to June 24.
Romanenko, who draped herself in her national flag during Reims’ clash with Lyon last month, admits she has no fear when she takes to the pitch due to the plight of her compatriots.

Big-hearted go-karter Jarlath Sayer, 8, organises sponsored endurance race to raise money for Ukrainian refugees

GO-KARTER Jarlath Sayer has come up with an excellent way to help fellow children forced to flee war-torn Ukraine.The eight-year-old approached Lewis Hamilton’s old track, Rye House in Hertfordshire, about putting on a sponsored endurance race to raise money for refugees.

The event is set to take place in the week leading up to the British Grand Prix
The race will be held on the 28th June and will be part of the build-up to the 2022 British Grand Prix.
A total of 26 teams will race in a ‘Le Mans’ style event, led by professional racing drivers and celebrities to raise money for the charity UNHCR for Ukrainian refugees.
Proceedings will begin with 20 minute qualifying.
The race itself will then be a three-hour affair.
Teams will consist of three to six drivers.
Seats can be secured for £599 per team.

Ukrainian tennis ace turned soldier Stakhovsky slams Tottenham boss Conte over DM for sympathising with Russian athletes

TENNIS star Sergiy Stakhovsky has told Antonio Conte to “wake up” after the Tottenham boss sympathised with Russian athletes.The Italian said it was “sad” and “unfair” that some Russians were banned from competing in sport – such as the Men’s national football team who were bidding to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

And despite Conte also sharing his sympathy for the Ukranian people, Stakhovsky has accused him of not understanding the situation regarding Russia’s invasion.
Stakhovsky is helping to defend his own country by assisting the military on the front lines of the battle.
He took to Instagram to criticise Conte’s words in a direct message to the Spurs manager.

The Tennis ace wrote: “So Dzyuba, you are against war?

VASILY LOMACHENKO’S team are hoping to pull him from the frontlines of the war in Ukraine so he can prepare for a showdown with George Kambosos Jr.The proud Ukrainian took up arms against the invading Russians last month along with countryman Oleksandr Usyk and the Klitschko brothers, Vitali and Wladimir.

But Team Loma are making efforts to try and get him out of the country so he can challenge Kambosos for the unified lightweight titles.
That’s according to ESPN, who claim the two-time Olympic gold medallist has agreed a deal to face the Aussie in Melbourne on June 5.
Lomachenko’s team will face a tough task to get him out of the country as martial law has decreed that all able-bodied men between the ages of 18-60 must stay and aid the nation’s defence against Russia.
Sportsmen and celebrities aren’t exempt from the decree, although Lomachenko did in fact volunteer to take up arms before it was issued.

Former pound-for-pound king Lomachenko has enlisted in the Belgorod-Dniester Terror Defence Battalion to defend his hometown.
His enlistment in the battalion came after he shared a call for peace with his 2.1million Instagram followers.

Woody, 74, hopes to steal the deal away from Saudi Media Group before Friday’s deadline.
His £2billion bid is less than the Saudi Media Group’s £2.7billion — but he believes he can win because of his extensive London links.
As the former US ambassador to the UK, and co-owner of gridiron team the New York Jets for 22 years, he believes he can raise Chelsea’s profile in the American market.
A football source told The Sun last night: “What Chelsea need right now is longevity and stability when it comes to a new owner. Woody and his team think they can provide that.
“He’s run the Jets successfully and knows a huge amount about the sports industry. And he’s spent the last four years in London and knows it well.”
The 74-year-old, full name Robert Wood Johnson and heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical dynasty, is bidding from his family’s fortune believed to be £28billion.

The deal has been complicated by sanctions slapped on current owner Roman Abramovich due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Sources say it is possible the Atlanta Hawks owner will get involved in the “finance side” of Chelsea but there was no further information. Chelsea declined to comment.
Ressler, who co-founded private equity firm Ares Management, dealt with Raine last year while facilitating his company’s £115million investment in US football club Inter Miami.
The source said last night: “Tony is keen to add a British football team to his sporting roster and has made no secret of that, but is prepared to drive a hard bargain in negotiations. That said, there are several other players involved.”

Ministers stepped in yesterday to make further changes to the licence allowing Chelsea to continue operating.
The club’s matchday spend for home games was lifted from £500,000 to £900,000. Changes also include holding on to broadcast rights and prize money, which could top £100million. The club had warned the sanctions could threaten its chances of finishing the season.
Whitehall sources have revealed changes could also be made for costs to and from fixtures, which currently stands at £20,000.
The fresh bids come as The Sun on Sunday can reveal Abramovich first began conversations about the sale last year, as tensions between Ukraine and Russia simmered.
One source said: “He instructed the Raine Group to quietly find potential buyers last year, and their representatives approached several interested parties.
“At the time, the move seemed motivated by the increase in potential buyers. But, with hindsight, he may have predicted the current situation.”
