      David Beckham’s Instagram account taken over by doctor in Ukraine as Man Utd legend issues heartfelt plea

      DAVID Beckham’s Instagram account has today been taken over by a doctor in Ukraine in a bid to show the reality of their struggling medical facilities. The Man United legend issued a heartfelt plea to his followers to support the “incredible people” working in “appalling conditions”.

      He praised the head of the regional perinatal centre and child anesthesiologist Iryna before handing over his social media account to her on Sunday.
      The dedicated doc detailed her plight caring for newborn babies and their mothers in Kharkiv as the war in Ukraine rages on.
      Iryna told how on the first day of the devastating conflict, pregnant women and mothers had to be “evacuated to the basement”.
      She explained: “It was a terrible three hours that we spent together.

      “Unfortunately, we can’t take babies who are in intensive care to the basement because they rely on life-saving equipment.
      “The first days were the most difficult. We had to learn how to work with bombings and strikes.”

      Social media users flooded the comment section with praise for both brave Iryna and 46-year-old Becks for throwing his weight behind the campaign.
      Dad-of-four David and his wife Victoria earlier donated £1million in support of Ukrainians while launching Unicef’s Emergency Appeal for the war-torn country.
      The former England captain – who became a Unicef ambassador in 2005 – urged his 71.2 million Instagram followers to help fund the “vital work on the ground”.
      He has worked as an ambassador for Unicef for 17 years and works tirelessly publicly and privately to help them.
      The Sun revealed at the end of last year the extent of the help he lends the charity, including the enormous private sums he donates.

      Shevchenko, who played over 100 times for his country between 1995 and 2012 before managing the side, called on the world to help find peace.
      He added: “I know in Russia there are so many people who are against the war. Speak out, go on the streets – send a message.
      “The world wants peace in Ukraine.

      Shevchenko, who has opened up his home to Ukrainian refugees, refused to be drawn on his feelings towards sanctioned Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
      The Russian oligarch is among dozens who have been sanctioned by the UK government for their ties to Putin’s murderous regime.
      Shevchenko, who signed for Chelsea in 2006 for a then club record £30million, previously credited Abramovich with luring him to Stamford Bridge.
      He said: “It’s an incredible club, with incredible fans.
      “I know it’s a difficult time for them but I’m sure they’ll come through it.
      “I have a chance to appeal to everyone in Great Britain, the fans, to play your part and do all you can to stop this war in Ukraine.”
      Elizabeth Faure, of the United Nations World Food Programme, said: “The humanitarian crisis is getting worse.
      “We have reports of severe food shortages, particularly in Mariupol, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
      “Neighbourhoods of people are finding it very difficult to find food. We’ve launched a humanitarian response to reach more than three million people.
      “That’s a big operation with hundreds of trucks of food every day.”
      More than three million refugees have so far fled Ukraine since the start of the war.

      TANYA ROMANENKO has opened up on her fears for the lives of her relatives in Ukraine following Russia’s brutal military invasion.And the Ukraine striker felt ‘like a zombie’ during the first three days of the conflict after sleepless nights worrying about her mother, brother and father.

      Romanenko, who plays for French top-flight side Reims, shared her reflections in an emotional interview on US podcast show Men in Blazers on Wednesday.
      It comes almost a month after Russia began its violent attack, an invasion that occurred two days after Ukraine’s triumph in the Turkish Women’s Cup in February.

      GO-KARTER Jarlath Sayer has come up with an excellent way to help fellow children forced to flee war-torn Ukraine.The eight-year-old approached Lewis Hamilton’s old track, Rye House in Hertfordshire, about putting on a sponsored endurance race to raise money for refugees.

      The event is set to take place in the week leading up to the British Grand Prix
      The race will be held on the 28th June and will be part of the build-up to the 2022 British Grand Prix.
      A total of 26 teams will race in a ‘Le Mans’ style event, led by professional racing drivers and celebrities to raise money for the charity UNHCR for Ukrainian refugees.
      Proceedings will begin with 20 minute qualifying.
      The race itself will then be a three-hour affair.
      Teams will consist of three to six drivers.
      Seats can be secured for £599 per team.

      That’s according to ESPN, who claim the two-time Olympic gold medallist has agreed a deal to face the Aussie in Melbourne on June 5.
