      Conor McGregor was AHEAD after four rounds in Floyd Mayweather fight, says Atlas as he breaks down UFC star’s display

      CONOR McGREGOR was leading against Floyd Mayweather after four rounds, boxing trainer Teddy Atlas said. MMA superstar McGregor crossed codes in August 2017 as he made a professional ring debut, beaten in ten rounds by former pound-for-pound king Mayweather.

      But the Irishman, who was the UFC lightweight champion at the time, got off to a quick start.
      So much so that Atlas – working as a pundit for the fight – had him up at the half-way point – until Mayweather caught up to him.
      He said in an interview with The Schmo: “To the credit of McGregor, he was ahead.
      “I know you guys are going to probably choke on your pecan pie that you’re having right now but he was ahead after four rounds.
      “I was there for ESPN calling the fights, and I was there with the great Chael Sonnen sitting ringside and after four rounds he was ahead
      “He being McGregor – and there’s a reason for it: because he was using his reach.

      Despite Atlas’ claim, only one of the three judges agreed with him, as the other two had Mayweather, 44, leading three rounds to one after four.
      McGregor, 33, was given special permission by the UFC to go out of his contract and fight the boxing legend.

      Several other UFC stars have since flirted with the idea of lacing up the gloves, most recently welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, 34.
      Usman has called out boxing’s pound-for-pound best Canelo Alvarez, 31, in the past, but Atlas has warned him against the switch of codes.
      He said: “He’s got physicality, he’s very strong, he’s a decent puncher and he’s not a bad striker – although I think a lot of his strengths are on the mat with his knowledge there and his physicality.
      “You throw him in there with a B-level guy or even a good journeyman guy, no.
      “I don’t want to upset anyone with the fans out there, but as long as the rules are strictly boxing, no he wouldn’t be able to have tremendous success there.”

      Nate Diaz left Jake Paul’s fight with Tyron Woodley early as he was ‘bored’ – but team-mate pays YouTuber respect

      NATE DIAZ left Jake Paul’s rematch with Tyron Woodley before the bell even sounded – because he was ‘bored’. The UFC veteran was ringside in Florida to watch his training partner Chris Avila beat Anthony Taylor, a former sparring partner of Paul’s.

      In the night’s headliner, the YouTuber brutally knocked out former UFC champion Woodley, but Diaz was not there to see it.
      Avila, 28, told Helen Yee: “I think Jake Paul is a decent fighter, but we actually didn’t stick around for the fight.
      “I think Nate and the guys were getting bored and wanted to bounce. So we took off before the Jake Paul fight.”
      Diaz, 36, and Jorge Masvidal, 37, were both called out by Paul, 24, after the stunning KO.
      But according to Avila, his long-time team-mate has ‘no interest’ in fighting the social media sensation anyway.
      He said: “[Paul] had security guards trying to keep Nate away.

      Woodley’s coach has spoke out and rubbished such claims, saying the MMA star wanted to ‘win’.
      Speaking to MMA on Sirius XM, Din Thomas said: “That whole theory, it makes me laugh.
      “Because being in his camp, I know how serious it was.
      “It was serious like Tyron really wanted this win back, he really wanted this fight and it was a serious thing.

      Woodley conceded he made the fatal mistake of dropping his hand before Paul’s punch.
      But has claimed he is not ready to retire just yet.
      Woodley reminisced: “I fight for my kids and my family. I told you guys I was in shape, I told you guys I was ready to fight, and I told you guys I was in better shape than he was.
      “So, I did that tonight and went back and looked at it and thought.
      “Why the f**k did I drop my hands? I was ready, I had both my hands up and I was expecting the overhand.
      “I knew he was gonna delay the punch. But even if he delayed it, I was ready for it.
      “Even if he didn’t delay I don’t know why I dropped my guard. In this sport, it takes only one mistake, just one mistake, I blocked so many of his shots.” More

      Jake Paul fight against Conor McGregor would make ‘ridiculous’ money, says UFC star Dan Hardy after talks

      The YouTuber turned boxer has called out a number of the biggest stars in the UFC, with rumours swirling over a fight with the ‘Notorious’ McGregor.
      Paul even revealed earlier this month that his team and McGregor’s ‘talk constantly’ regarding a potential bout.
      And Hardy reckons a fight between the pair would rake in an unbelievable amount of cash.
      As reported by the Mail, Hardy said: “It would make so much money it would be ridiculous.
      “You’ve got two guys that have got their own audience, and an audience that is massive as well in their own right.
      “The only thing for me would be the size difference, that’s the only thing that would affect the sellability of the fight,
      “But then with Conor having such a big personality and him looking like the Hulk at the moment, I think it’s definitely something that’s sellable.”

      Hardy also went on to claim that a bout between Paul and McGregor would reel in more viewers than a UFC heavyweight world title fight.
      He added: “I think people are more interested in the individuals in the fight than what they are actually fighting for.
      “If Jake Paul fought Conor McGregor, more people would watch that than the UFC heavyweight title.”
      Paul is understood to have bagged almost $20million dollars (£15m) from boxing alone – and that’s before he brutally knocked out Tyron Woodley on December 18.
      McGregor meanwhile fought twice in the UFC in 2021 – scooping a guaranteed $6million (£4.4m) from fights alone in this calendar year.
      The Irishman’s total earnings, however, would’ve been significantly topped up by whatever additional agreements he has in place with the UFC and his respective cut of pay-per-view points.
      So any potential bout between Paul and McGregor is certain to generate a whopping amount of cash. More

      Nate Diaz claims Logan and Jake Paul hired security team to stop UFC star getting to them during Tyron Woodley fight

      NATE DIAZ has claimed the ‘Paul sisters’ hired security to stop him from getting to them at Jake’s recent fight.Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley replaced Tommy Fury in the event at late notice as he attempted to avenge his defeat to the 24-year-old from August.

      But Woodley suffered a huge knockout blow in the sixth round after he was caught with a hard right hand and has now been medically suspended.
      A number of stars and VIPS were in attendance for the bout including Diaz – although he was there to support his teammate Chris Avila on the undercard.
      And after Paul stretched his fight record to 5-0 he instantly called out UFC’s Stockton Slugger.
      Diaz, who hilariously made fellow fighter Carrese Archer flinch during the show, has now taken to Instagram to send a message back to Jake and his brother Paul alongside a snap of himself between two huge men.
      He wrote: “The Paul sisters hired this security team to make sure I wouldn’t get to them, like I was actually trying too, but it’s alll good with u guys I don’t take this fight thang with u2 serious.
      “You guys playing boxing with wrestlers who can’t box or lil ass Floyd and that’s not cool bruh but it’s good. I’m a real fighter from the real fight game so don’t trip so hard when you see me fellas let’s just be friends it’s good.”

      It added to KO wins over YouTuber ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37.
      Now Paul has named Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson, Fury and White as his dream opponents.
      Here, SunSport runs down the five names he put on his wishlist.
      Canelo Alvarez
      The Mexican, 31, is the current pound-for-pound No1, and the idea of him fighting Paul, 24, is horrifically dangerous.
      But even Canelo himself has refused to rule it out, and by coincidence is set to move up to cruiserweight next, Paul’s current weight.
      Paul recently told Joe: “I know he’s moving up to cruiserweight, so he’s playing right into this s*** already. I think I can do some real damage to him.”

      Mayweather, 44, is officially retired as a professional but came back in June for a sensation exhibition with Paul’s brother, Logan, 26.
      The spectacle bout went the full eight round distance and Mayweather confirmed it would be his last.
      But beforehand, Paul went viral after nicking the boxing legend’s hat, and if the price is right, it could pave the way for another money-spinner.

      Mike Tyson
      Tyson, 55, in November came out of retirement for an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr, 58, which after eight rounds ended a draw.
      Paul KO’d Robinson on the undercard and built a friendship with Iron Mike, who ironically was rumoured to be in talks to face brother Logan.
      But the opportunity to share the ring with the youngest heavyweight champion of all time could prove too good to turn down for Paul.

      Tommy Fury, 22, was in talks to fight Paul, until he pulled out with a broken rib and was replaced by Woodley.
      Fury has since claimed talks to reschedule are underway but Paul has maintained his rival has missed out.
      And judging by his tweet, he is now ready to move on to big brother Tyson, 33, the unbeaten WBC heavyweight king.

      But McGregor remains desperate to face the Brazilian knockout specialist in his comeback fight once he returns to the octagon.
      Earlier this month, he demanded a dust-up against Do Bronx after taking to social media to state what date will they be squaring off.
      UFC president Dana White has insisted that interim champ Justin Gaethje is ahead of the Dublin native in the pecking order to fight Oliveira.
      But Oliveira doesn’t care about who deserves the shot, as he declared that he is excited about the prospect of pitting his wits against the two-weight world champion.
      He told Sherdog: “May would be a wonderful date. Conor challenged me asking a date, and tweeted Ireland vs Brazil 2.
      “Not only him, but also myself and all the world wants to see that fight. So let’s make it happen.

      Oliveira, who submitted Poirier in their encounter on December 11, has won his last eight fights, with none of the contests going the distance.
      In contrast, McGregor has lost three out of his lost four MMA bouts.
      Sao Paulo star Oliveira has conceded that he would still be willing to face Gaethje next, with the American recently outpointing Michael Chandler.

      Commenting on The Highlight, Oliveira remarked: “Gaethje was knocked out by Poirier, who I just submitted.
      “He was almost knocked out by Chandler, who I beat via TKO, but I’m a UFC employee.
      “If they choose that I should fight Gaethje next, I’ll be ready too.”

      Since then, the ex-UFC champion has made light of his savage stoppage loss, and even offered fans £3,700 to come up with the funniest meme of the KO.
      But Cormier – who was in hysterics with Ben Askren’s loss to Paul in April – mocked Woodley for his online competition.
      He said on ESPN: “Dude that was not good, that was a bad look. And you know what’s worse? The after.
      “I don’t know what T-Wood’s doing on social media. He posts the knockout, he makes a contest about it.
      “It’s like Jake Paul is beating these dudes so bad that they start to make fun of themselves.”
      Cormier, 42, added: “These guys go in there to fight this dude, they lose to him. Ben Askren was almost immediately making fun of himself.

      But Cormier, who retired in 2020, admitted Paul holds all the cards when he prizes current and former MMA stars into the ring.
