It was expected to be the ex-Disney actor’s hardest fight since turning professional, but he silenced his critics in emphatic fashion.
Paul then outpointed former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley on a split decision in August.
And Askren, 37, has admitted he was surprised by Paul’s qualities during his appearance on Lex Freidman’s podcast.
He said: “So the thing I said when I went in to fight him [Jake Paul] is maybe he’s good or maybe he’s not. We really have no idea to this point, you know
“I knew that Tyron was a lot better in boxing than I was.
“And so I thought that there is a good likelihood that Tyron beats him up but there is a chance that Jake is kind of good at this.

“I think what played out is he’s kind of good at it.
“And if you saw the way I saw it, he was still impressive in his showing and he has obviously put a lot of time into it. So, he’s not bad, I’ll say that much.”
UFC welterweight Diaz hit out at Askren over his views, as he tweeted: “Coming from a retired wrestler who can’t fight or box.”
Paul then chimed in, as he compared Diaz’s 13 defeats inside the octagon to Askren’s two.
He remarked: “You have six times as many losses as Ben Askren. Let that sink in.”
Diaz then fired back: “He sucks Jake. You’d get smoked n a real fight tho (sic).
“You can’t really fight boxing matches with wrestlers only. Let that sink in.”
Paul is currently preparing for his dust-up against Tommy Fury in Florida next month.

And he has vowed to embarrass the Fury family as he looks to knock out TNT.
He said: “One month to go until December 18th and a complete embarrassment of the Fury family.
“Mark your calendars now to witness history in Tampa.”

‘I will beat him’ – Jake Paul says fight with UFC star Conor McGregor could ‘one hundred percent’ happen in two years

Despite that, McGregor has appeared uninterested in the lucrative boxing bout and has barley even acknowledged Paul, who is 4-0 as a boxer.
But the social media influencer is adamant they will one day share the ring, as he continues to gain more experience and respect in the sport.
Paul told Bleacher Report: “I will fight everybody. This started with me calling out McGregor.
“And people were like ‘this kids crazy, Conor will kill him’. But now this fight could happen within the next 24 months one hundred percent.
“I will beat him, people are seeing how serious I am being about this and are changing the way they think about it.”
Paul’s first two wins were against online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and then ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37.

But then he set his sights on rivalling the UFC, as he knocked out retired welterweight Ben Askren, 37, in April.
And he returned in August to beat ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley, 39, over eight rounds.
Attempts to prize McGregor, 33, beaten by Floyd Mayweather, 44, on his boxing debut in 2017, have proven unsuccessful.
Instead, Paul fights Tommy Fury, 22, the brother to heavyweight champion Tyson, on December 18 in Florida.
And he claimed the Gypsy King is just one of several boxing icons to have supported his polarising splash in the sport.
Paul said: “I’m the best thing that’s happened to boxing in a century – period.
“The legends would agree – the Anthony Joshuas, the Mike Tysons, the Manny Pacquiaos, the Tyson Furys.
“They’ve all said what I’m doing for boxing is a breath of fresh air. “I think that debate started about a year ago – is Jake Paul good for boxing?
“I have silenced that, and I don’t think there’s anybody on the other side of the equation who thinks I’m bad for boxing.”

Nate Diaz and brother Nick, are both UFC fighters and have been urged to fight the Pauls
Jake, who fights Tommy Fury on December 18, has called out UFC star Nate Diaz in the past.
And on his next undercard, former sparring partner Anthony Taylor, rematches Diaz’s team-mate Chris Avila.
And while Taylor does not have his eye on either of the Diaz brothers, he called on Jake and Logan to pit themselves against the UFC veterans.
He told SunSport: “I’m not worried about Nate or Nick.
“I’ll let Jake and Logan handle that if it needs to be. The Paul brothers versus the Diaz brothers.
“But what I can say I’m interested in would be fighting Jake Shields or Gilbert Melendez, Team Paul versus Team Diaz.”

Logan, 26, has only boxed three times before, twice against online rival KSI, with the first a white collar bout in 2018 which resulted a draw.
The American then lost the rematch a year later by scrappy split-decision when they turned professional.
Then, in June, Logan return in an extraordinary exhibition with Floyd Mayweather ring legend which ended with no winner after it went the distance.
The social media sensation is now rumoured to be in talks with Mike Tyson, 55, who made his comeback last November against Roy Jones Jr.
Meanwhile, Jake, 24, is 4-0 with wins over YouTuber ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, as well as former UFC pair Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.

He even featured on the undercard of the latter, losing to Jake’s next opponent Fury, 22.
And he will again feature on the pay-per-view bill when his old sparring partner and opponent fight, facing old ground in Avila, who he beat in the cage last year.
Taylor said: “Jake’s manager Nakisa hit me up and said, ‘Hey, what do you know about Chris Avila?’
“And I’m like, ‘Well, me and Chris Avila don’t like each other’. I beat him up in Bellator and Nate didn’t like the fact I beat him up and was showboating.
“So Nakisa was like, ‘Look, I want you to fight Chris Avila, I think it will be a good win for you and a good fight’.”

UFC commentator Joe Rogan ‘can’t believe’ Logan Paul wants to fight Mike Tyson as he break down exhibition bout

JOE ROGAN ‘can’t believe’ Logan Paul wants to fight Mike Tyson – as the UFC commentator broke down the extraordinary fight. The YouTube sensation and boxing icon were rumoured to be in talks for an exhibition bout in February.

It comes after Paul, 26, took Floyd Mayweather, 44, the distance in their exhibition bout over eight rounds in June, where no winner was declared.
And Tyson, 55, came out of retirement for a similar spectacle against Roy Jones Jr, 52, last November, which ended a draw.
Rogan said on his podcast: “The fact that Logan Paul wants to box him, it’s like wow.
“I can’t believe they’re really going to do that. That kid’s going to get hit for sure.
“Floyd was hitting him. Floyd has only taken a small amount of time off and he had those exhibition fights.
“Floyd has been pretty active as a boxer, he fought Pacquaio recently and that Japanese kickboxing guy.

“He was just fighting guys like Conor McGregor that we knew Floyd was going to beat them, but he was still active.
“Mike hadn’t been active forever. He got fat, but he’s a different kind of person. It’s going to be interesting to see what Logan can do to keep away from him.
“The only thing Logan has on his side is youth.”
Paul has boxed only three times before, firstly in a white collar bout against British online rival KSI, 28, which ended in a draw in 2018.
But a year later, they turned professional and the American lost the rematch by scrappy split-decision.
Only this year did Paul return, for the shock exhibition against Mayweather, who gave away TWO STONE.
Meanwhile Tyson confirmed he will fight again with his second comeback bout set for February.
Paul recently admitted tentative talks with Iron Mike had taken place in the past, but it was not a fight he was heavily considering.

Although after seeing the reaction of fans, who tipped Tyson to demolish the man 29 YEARS his junior, the social media influencer is ready to prove doubters wrong.
Paul told SecondsOut: “As of now there’s nothing – I mean, look we’ve been kind of talking about it, it’s been kind of possible for a little bit.
“It’s been pinned. Then there’s rumours started circling, whatever we didn’t say anything and then it got confirmed that it wasn’t happening.
“I was like reading the tweets and the social commentary and everyone was saying, ‘Tyson would f***ing kill Logan’.
“So a fight that I initially hadn’t even considered, is now like people actually don’t think that I would win, this is actually offensive.
“And I started getting upset and now I’m kind of considering it just to shut people the f*** up.
“I find it absurd that people don’t think I can beat Mike Tyson.”

UFC supremo Dana White says rapper 50 Cent kick-started negotiations for Conor McGregor to fight Mayweather

It marked an end to months of build-up and trash-talking between the pair, with the event gripping both fighting codes.
But UFC president Dana White revealed a chance meeting with 50 Cent – a long-time friend of Mayweather’s – was the catalyst for the super-fight taking place.
White told ESPN: “When the demand is there. I felt the demand for McGregor vs Mayweather, felt it, I knew it would be big, so we started talking.
“I bumped into 50 Cent in New York, and he said, ‘Floyd wants to fight your boy.’ I said, ‘My boy who?’
“He’s like, ‘The Irish kid.’ And I’m like, ‘He’ll kill him,’ because I’m thinking MMA.
“He said, ‘We’ll box him.’ I said, ‘You guys are crazy.’
“He said, ‘He’s serious. I’ll call him right now.’

“And then that’s how it all really got started. And then everywhere I went, it was all anybody asked me about.
“Then once I started to really feel it, that’s when I started to take it serious, and I made an offer.”
After Mayweather beat McGregor on the Irishman’s boxing debut he officially retired from the sport.
He returned at the end of 2018 for an exhibition bout against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo.
Last year, the 44-year-old announced he is ‘coming out of retirement in 2020’ to work on a ‘spectacular event’ with White.
UFC boss White revealed: “We both started talking. The easiest way to explain it to you is Floyd and I both feel that we add value to each other, and we’re going to figure something out.
“Some things have to play out, and then I’m going to start talking to [Mayweather’s advisor Al] Haymon maybe this summer and then I’ll have something for Floyd in the fall.
“We can do some crossover stuff here or we can do something in boxing.

“Our last experience, Floyd was actually pretty easy to deal with. Haymon is incredible to deal with.
“Floyd and I got a handshake deal at the basketball game, and we’ll get the rest figured out.”
Mayweather recently refused to rule out a second fight against McGregor – but he has stated the bout wouldn’t take place in the Octagon.
