Georges St-Pierre open to boxing switch when UFC contract expires after Dana White blocked Oscar De La Hoya fight

GEORGES ST-PIERRE is open to a boxing switch when his UFC contract expires after Dana White blocked his fight with Oscar De La Hoya. The UFC legend was offered as De La Hoya’s comeback opponent on September 11, but White intervened.

St-Pierre, 40, is still contracted to the UFC, despite retiring in 2019 and not fighting since 2017, with De La Hoya, 48, now facing Vitor Belfort, 44.
But when his deal runs out, GSP admitted he would consider lacing up the gloves.
St-Pierre, 40, told Ariel Helwani:  “I’m cheering for Vitor, Vitor is a friend of mine.
“But if something happens and maybe Oscar wins, or something happens like that, maybe I’ll get Oscar after.
“We’ll see. I’m still under contract for, I think, another year or two with UFC. But I’m not going nowhere.
“If the idea interests me still when I’ll be 41 or 42, maybe I’ll jump back in it.”

UFC president White allowed Ben Askren – who had been retired a year – to fight YouTuber Jake Paul in April.
But Askren, who was still tied down to the UFC, was beaten in round one in the pay-per-view fight with Triller.
White has clashed with Triller in the past and more infamously with former six-weight boxing champion De La Hoya.
And his distain for the Golden Boy was so bad he flat out refused to let St-Pierre fight him, fearing his rival would win.
GSP explained: “Dana did not want it. I knew he hates Oscar but I said to him, ‘Listen, I’m going to make Oscar look bad because I’m in great shape.
“‘I’ve been staying in great shape the whole time and I’m going to do a full boxing training camp with Freddie Roach and his world champions there, so I’ll be very well prepared.’
“If the idea interests me still when I’ll be 41 or 42, maybe I’ll jump back in it.Georges St-Pierre on fighting again
“At first he says to me that the reason why he did not want it is because he thought that Oscar would basically destroy me in a boxing match.
“And I had some good arguments — I told him that I believe Oscar has more mileage than I do, he’s no longer in his prime, I stayed busy the whole time, I’m still in great shape, I’m going to be very well prepared and I’m taking this fight very seriously.
“If I do it, because it’s my name — my image is attached to it — I will do it 100 percent.
“And I told Dana, I said, ‘If there’s one MMA fighter that go to boxing and look good in this situation, it would be me.’
“And at first he refused. Then he thought about it but he came back with the argument that, oh, no, it’s not because he thinks Oscar is going to win; he thinks it’s because he doesn’t like the fact that Triller takes me and makes money off my back while I’m still under contract with UFC.”

BKFC not interested in taking ‘a risk’ signing 51-year-old UFC legend Chuck Liddell, despite MMA star’s ‘name power’

BARE KNUCKLE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP have ruled out a move for MMA legend Chuck Liddell. The former UFC light-heavyweight champion revealed his willingness to compete in the BKFC ring last month, telling the promotion: “Come and talk to me.”

The acquisition of Liddell, 51, would certainly further boost the profile of the fast-growing sport.
But signing The Iceman is a risk BKFC president Dave Feldman isn’t willing to take.
Feldman recently told SunSport: “People want us to sign some of these guys that have been around for a long time.
“Like Chuck Liddell’s name came up. Chuck’s great.
“He’s phenomenal, he’s a legend, he’s been in there with everybody in the world and he could probably bring a lot of name power to our organisation.
“But we feel that Chuck is probably not cut out for bare-knuckle at this stage of his life.

“I mean he’s 51 years old and it’s something we don’t want to take a risk on.”
While Feldman may not be willing to take a risk on Liddell, the former fighter is looking at adding more big names to BKFC’s roster.
BKFC have made several big acquisitions over the last few 18-months, capturing the services of Paige VanZant, Rachael Ostovich and most recently former UFC featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes.
And Feldman believes several household names will soon ink contracts with the fast-growing promotion.
We feel that Chuck is probably not cut out for bare-knuckle at this stage of his lifeBKFC president Dave Feldman
He said: “We’re not going to take a risk on everything, but some of the names out there we’re definitely going to sign.
“There’s going to be a lot of free agents coming soon from all different combat sports because of just the way things are going.
“They’re ending their contracts and they’re looking for a new home.”

BKFC will return to action on Friday for their 20th card, which will take place at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.
The event will be headlined by a showdown between Johnny Bedford and Reggie Barnett Jr.
Former UFC middleweight Alan Belcher will also be in action in the co-main event of the evening, taking on Tony Lopez.

Silva, however, ended up being matched up against fellow UFC vet Tito Ortiz, although he hasn’t ruled out sharing a ring with The Maverick.
When asked if he’d be open to facing Paul, he said: “Let’s go see. Anything is possible.
“We can’t control that situation. I can control one thing – training hard, listening to my coach.
“The other side, I can’t control that. If that happens, I’m prepared for that.
“If not, I will continue training.”
Silva’s 195lb clash with former UFC light-heavyweight champ Ortiz will serve as the appetiser for Oscar De La Hoya’s comeback fight against Vitor Belfort on September 11.

The Spider is focused solely on besting his fellow MMA legend but isn’t closing the door on a clash with Paul.
He said: “Everything’s possible. I love fighting. Fighting is a big part of my life.
“I challenge myself every single moment. I never stop training.
“Triller came to me and asked about this opportunity to fight Tito.
“It’s a great honour, he’s a legend. I saw Tito and said, ‘He’s a monster, this is amazing.’
“I’m a big fan of Tito. This is a big show for the fans.
“The shows for the fans are completely different.
“I think me, Vitor, Tito and other MMA fighters are ready to show what we can do.
“I am waiting for the next challenge, maybe it comes from Logan Paul. We shall see.”

Silva, 46, returned to the boxing world in June, putting on a masterclass against former WBO middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Paul, meanwhile, was last in action a week prior to the Brazilian, locking horns with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
The YouTuber, surprisingly, ended up going the distance with Money, who looked as if Father Time has finally caught up with him.

Jake Paul hopes Tyron Woodley fight goes ‘a couple rounds’ after fans claimed stunning Ben Askren KO was ‘rigged’

JAKE PAUL hopes his fight with Tyron Woodley goes ‘a couple rounds’ to avoid fans accusing him of another fix. The YouTuber is 3-0 in his career, all by knockout, and beat online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and then ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37.

Most recently, he finished retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37, in less than two minutes with a stunning right hand.
With only a combined five rounds in three fights, Paul faces his biggest challenge to date on August 29 against ex-UFC champion Woodley, 39.
And the social media star-turned prizefighter is desperate to show fans his full boxing arsenal after some accused his last win of being ‘rigged’.
Paul, 24, told SunSport: “I’ve said it, I wouldn’t mind going a couple rounds with this guy.
“To show my inside fighting, to show my work to the body, to show how I set shots up, to show my head movement, defence.
“To show that I can take a hit. I haven’t been able to show any of this, so I really wouldn’t mind it going a couple of rounds because then I think the boxing community will be like, ‘Oh, damn this kid can actually fight’.
How Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley compare ahead of their boxing match

“Even in the last fight, I knocked Ben Askren out, people were like, ‘There’s no way this is possible, it’s rigged’.
“Yeah, I want a challenge and I want a tough fight.”
Paul’s unbeaten start to his career has attracted as many critics as it has done supporters.
But now, signed to American network Showtime – where Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather both starred – he knows the lights have never been brighter.
Paul said: “I think there will be a very different audience tuning into this fight that will be more boxing-purist.
“And I think they’re going to be judging me, they’re going to be judging my skill, they’re going to be judging everything about the night.
“They’re going to be looking at everything and thinking, ‘Hey, should I like this kid or not?’
“Even in the last fight, I knocked Ben Askren out, people were like, ‘There’s no way this is possible, it’s rigged’.Jake Paul
“So this is my make-or-break fight, the biggest moment of my life.
“This is my time to truly, truly shine and show off my boxing ability that I’ve worked so hard to grow and to gain.”
Despite Paul’s infancy in the sport, his career as an internet sensation with over 20MILLION subscribers leaves him the A-side attraction.
So much so, even British reality TV star Tommy Fury, brother to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is a feature on his undercard.
Fury, 22, who appeared on ITV’s hit show Love Island in 2019, faces Paul’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor, 32.
A win for the celebrity pair sets them up for an expected pay-per-view fight of their own.
But Paul insisted being the ‘boss’ at the negotiation table is no mental advantage and is instead just happy to use his platform to benefit boxing.
    ‘I’M A FIGHTER’
He said: “I mean, I guess I don’t know how they look at it. For me, I don’t think it makes a difference.
“I’m going in there like I’m fighting the best fighters in the world and they should be thinking the same thing.
“Just because I’m the boss, I don’t hold that against them.
“I want everyone to win here and at the end of the day, I want to change this sport and give fighters the biggest paydays of their lives.
“I think everyone on the card is getting the biggest paydays of their boxing careers. And so I’m for the fighters at the end of the day.
“There’s a lot of s*** talk and hoopla, but at the end of the day, I’m a fighter, so I’m for the fighters.”

Woodley’s clash with the social media star turned boxer will mark his professional boxing debut, which Showtime chief Stephen Espinoza claims will see The Chosen One take home a ‘career-high’ purse.
He told MMA Fighting: “I think there are some people out there who dismissed Tyron’s claim as something for marketing.
“That wasn’t said, Tyron didn’t make that comment to market the event. That doesn’t sell pay-per-views.
“He made that comment because it’s true. I’ve talked to him about it, I’ve talked to Malki [Kawa] about it and they all confirmed it is a career-high payday.
“He is getting a guarantee that is more than he’s ever made before. That does say something.
“It says something about the business model that Jake has and it says something about sort of the business model of boxing versus MMA where there’s more of a tradition of the fighters taking home the lion’s share of the money.”

Woodley is champing at the bit to get his hands on Paul and has vowed to viciously KO the 24-year-old.

“Sometimes you talk yourself into a situation that you can’t back yourself out of … my mom used to say, ‘Your mouth wrote a check that your ass can’t cash.’ That’s exactly what happened.

He said: “Tyron’s a seasoned striker who has fought the best MMA fighters in the world but will be dropped by a Disney teen star in 2 rounds.”

As a result, it has seen him publicly feuding with UFC president White.
The promoter hit out at Paul and his choice of opponents while speaking to social media stars Nelk boys.
    White said: “He’s calling out Conor. Conor’s a 145-pound champion and a 155-pound champion.
“You’re f***ing way bigger than Conor.”
Asked about Paul’s chances of winning against McGregor, White said: “Zero.”
Paul, 24, is 3-0 as a boxer, all by knockout, since his professional debut in 2020 but has so far faced limited opposition.

He has beaten online rival ‘AnEsonGib’ and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 37, and most recently retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37.
Paul faces his biggest step up on August 29 against Tyron Woodley, 39, a former UFC champion.
But still White is yet to be convinced by the polarising celebrity, who has not yet fought a seasoned boxer.
He said: “The media is not really following as much as they did in the beginning.

“The stick is getting old, you know what I mean? I think for him to get the media back he’s gonna have to really fight somebody.

Jake Paul says bitter rival Conor McGregor is ‘most underpaid fighter in history’ despite UFC legend raking in millions

JAKE PAUL has sensationally claimed that his bitter rival Conor McGregor is the most UNDERPAID fighter UFC history. The YouTube star thinks that the Irishman’s pay-packet doesn’t reflect the value that he brings to the sport, his skills, or to the TV channels that broadcast the UFC fights.

The Mirror reported that Paul, who’s been baiting McGregor to get in the ring with him over the past year, made his thoughts known in a Twitter rant.
Paul tweeted: “[Conor] McGregor is the most underpaid fighter in history [for] what he gets paid to fight versus the value he has brought to UFC, ESPN and MMA.”
Paul’s crusade for fair fighter pay is what he says led him to start his own promotion company Most Valuable Promotions with ESPN’s rival, Showtime Boxing.
He added: “I partnered with Stephen Espinoza [the head of Showtime Boxing.
“Because he created the biggest PPVs in history & made sure fighters got majority of the revenue, not 10% like UFC does.”
