      The Welsh FA have already inspected the planned 320-room hotel, which is primed to offer magnificent views of the Doha skyline, and the training ground at the Aspire academy to the south of the city.
      On the hotel’s online blurb it implores guests to “discover five-star restaurants and bars, including the speciality Spanish restaurant – Medios”.
      Bale spent nine years at the Bernabeu, winning five Champions League titles, but the free agent has agreed to join LAFC on an initial one-year deal when the MLS window reopens.
      The 32-year-old is desperate to be in peak condition for the finals and the golf nut will be interested to know the nearest course is ten miles from the hotel at the Education City golf club.

      “They are not quite finished. At the front of the hotel, there’s a lot of rubble which I don’t know what it is going to be.

      “They are building lots of the city around this World Cup finals and it shows how sport can benefit a place.
      “We’re happy with the hotel situation and the training ground.”
      Going from Wales’ hotel to training is expected to take 20 minutes while the route from the West Bay area to the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium – where the Dragons face USA, Iran and arch rivals England – is less than a 30-minute drive.
      Mooney has fears over the traffic but expects Fifa to solve the problem come November. 
      He added: “There was quite a lot of traffic in the centre and when there are hundreds and thousands of fans descending on Doha from all over the world, are they used to those sorts of numbers?
      “It’s not our problem. It’s up to Fifa and the city to organise that. 
      “It was something in my mind as we came out of the business hour traffic. It took us quite a long time to go from our hotel in the centre of the city to the training ground which was south of Doha.
      “They told us it was a 20-minute trip and it took about 45 minutes so that was interesting. I’m working on the assumption that Fifa and the city will have all that solved by the time we do get there in mid November.”
      Wales are due to meet up after the final Premier League fixtures before the World Cup on Sunday, November 13.

      Tuesday evening’s dismal display was England’s heaviest home defeat for 94 years.

      ENGLAND have been hammered by Hungary as they suffered their heaviest home defeat since 1928.Roland Sallai netted from a set piece in the first half and then doubled his tally on the counter-attack in the second.
      Adam Nagy then compounded England’s woes by firing into the top corner with ten minutes left.
      But the night was still to get worse for Gareth Southgate as John Stones was given a soft second yellow card and Daniel Gazdag dinked the ball over Aaron Ramsdale to net Hungary’s fourth.

      The Hungary boss revealed after his side’s historic victory at Molineux that he hoped to leave a legacy when his time in charge of the Magyars comes to an end – and he’s certainly going the right way about it.
      After their admirable showing in Euro 2020’s group of death, the 57-year-old Italian has now led the Hungarian team to the top of a Nations League group that includes Italy, Germany and England.

      The England manager admitted that the team selected, both tonight and in the away defeat to Hungary, had the wrong balance in order to get the better of their dogged League A opponents.

      Leaders Hungary at the Wolves
      Hungary’s thumping 4-0 win against England at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux stadium takes them to the top of League A, Group 3 in the Nations League.
      England, on the other hand, are rock bottom, and defeat in Italy when they next play in September would mean relegation from the top set of groups.
      Unsurprisingly, the Three Lions are no longer able to top the table.
      Elsewhere tonight, Germany leapt over the Italians after crushing them 5-2 in Monchengladbach.

      England captain Harry Kane admitted that it was a dismal night for the national team, but vowed that the Three Lions would come back stronger in time for November’s World Cup.
      It’s a disappointing night. I thought we created enough chances in the first half to score, but it’s been the story of our Nations League in this camp so far. We haven’t quite had the cutting edge, and the second half was unacceptable to concede in the way we did. We’ve not had a camp like it for a long, long time though.       England’s worst defeat since 1964 brings to an end a dreadful international window in which they lost to Hungary twice, and failed to win any of their four games.
      Two goals from Roland Sallai, and late strikes from Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag stunned the Three Lions, and left the Molineux crowd gunning – rightly or wrongly – for Gareth Southgate’s head.
      Oh well. At least the cricket was good.

      THE idea was for a few of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup wannabes to play their way into the squad.But over these four games in 11 days, most of them played their way OUT of the reckoning.

      What an absolute shambles. Barely any of this squad, senior stars or fringe players, can be truly pleased about their performances in this lethargic and uninspiring batch of Nations League games.
      Some of them will be downright ashamed. One or two might never return to play for their country.
      England were hopeless in the 1-0 loss to Hungary, Jack Grealish delivered a nice cameo in the 1-1 draw with Germany, and Declan Rice produced an assured display in the bore draw at home to Italy.
      But against Hungary, in another desperately poor performance, boss Southgate’s stars once again flopped.

      For all of these players, the beach could not come soon enough.
      And they were perhaps lucky that the crowd were taking their anger out on the manager just as much as the team.
      Here was a huge opportunity for Jarrod Bowen to take his terrific form with West Ham onto the international stage. He played in all four matches, starting two of them, but the fact he was replaced at half-time last night by Raheem Sterling said it all.
      Bowen had plenty of energy and enthusiasm throughout his total of 180 minutes on the pitch. Yet despite some encouraging flashes, he failed to truly hit the spot for Southgate.

      SCOTLAND knew the pressure was on in Yerevan.Despite a horror start against Armenia that would have made fears of a repeat of Saturday’s Dublin debacle very real, Steve Clarke’s men came roaring back.

      A thumping 4-1 come from behind victory eased the pressure on the head coach, who after two years of what sometimes felt like non-stop positivity, was beginning to feel the heat.

      Some big names were missing – skipper Andy Robertson didn’t make the trip to Yerevan through injury, and neither did Scott McKenna or John Souttar who are also carrying knocks.
      Four changes were made from the dismal Dublin dismantling, with Billy Gilmour, Stuart Armstrong, Greg Taylor and Nathan Patterson all coming in. Anthony Ralston and Ryan Christie the players, along with Robertson and McKenna, to drop out.
      In the build-up to the game, Clarke insisted his future wasn’t up for discussion, while Callum McGregor had called on the nation to keep the faith with the team.
      That faith was tested to the max just six minutes into the match in Yerevan.
      The Armenians, who showed they were no pushovers by defeating the Republic of Ireland the weekend before last, breezed into an early lead.
      It was a defensive shambles for Scotland.
      Tigran Barseghyan went head-to-head with Grant Hanley in a duel down the right hand side. The Armenia number 11 brushed the big defender aside with all too much ease and burst away with a clear pathway to the box.

      He got to the byline before sending a low ball into the box.
      Scott McTominay didn’t get close enough, allowing Vahan Bichakhchyan to find a bit of space. He blasted in past the helpless Craig Gordon from five yards out.
      An absolutely calamitous start for Clarke’s men, who knew the had to respond.
      Much to the relief of all concerned, that’s exactly what happened.
      Behind for just eight minutes, the Scots came firing back in the form of Stuart Armstrong.
      Jack Hendry sent a well-weighted ball into Che Adams. The Southampton front man took a nice touch, setting himself up for an overhead kick.
      The execution was all wrong from the striker, but his miscued effort bounced towards his club teammate Armstrong, who slotted a superb low drive into the bottom corner for his first Scotland goal since 2019.

      The Scots kept on flirting with danger, however, and Armenia had the ball in the net again moments later.
      A ball over the top saw Khorem Bayramyan get in behind the back three. Scott McTominay got back to block, but the midfielder finished at the second attempt.
      The assistant referee’s flag offered a reprieve however, with offside the verdict. VAR Kevin Blom (yes, that Kevin Blom of Jan Rezek/Czech Republic/Hampden infamy) thankfully agreed.
      Adams fired just wide as Scotland looked to go ahead, while Nathan Patterson totally fluffed his lines when a good opening fell his way.
      Armstrong showed some clever footwork down the left hand side before finding the Everton defender near the penalty spot – his effort, however, went in the completely wrong direction.
      A huge turning point in the final minute of normal time went in Scotland’s favour. It came in the form of a moment – or rather, two moments – of madness.

      As the referee was running over with yellow card in hand, the Armenia defender inexplicably thrust his head into John McGinn’s face.
      It was a crazy thing to do and the yellow card very quickly became a red one and the hosts were down to ten men.
      Scotland were quick to take advantage and turn the game right around, and in absolutely sublime style.
      McGinn, who has struggled to find his best form during this international window, produced a sensational back heeled flick to find Armstrong in the box.
      The former Celtic and Dundee United man showed wonderful control once again to set up the shot.
      Despite being off balance, Armstrong brilliantly fired into the far corner to give Scotland the half-time lead.

      Scotland were in no mood to hang around in the second half either, bagging goal number three just five minutes into the second 45.
      Greg Taylor got to the byline and sent in an excellent ball to the back post.
      There waiting was Patterson, who controlled the ball well and pushed it into McGinn’s path.
      The stand-in skipper showed a brilliant touch, before chesting the ball down, swivelling and blasting in from close range.
      No sooner was it 3-1 and it was 4-1 – and game over.
      The fourth came at the end of an emphatic counter attacking move.
      Armstrong, having one of his finest Scotland performances, was at the very heart of it again. He charged forward in possession, before beautifully finding Adams who had got himself clear down the left hand side.
      The striker took the ball into the box, cut inside and fired a lovely curling finish into the net. Two goals in three minutes, and three points all but secured.

      Armstrong, whose two goals so far had doubled his tally of international goals to four, was in the mood and he was very close to a hat trick.
      Another counter attack saw the 29-year old bear down on the box. He pinged a lovely curling effort towards the far corner, but it curled just wide of the post.
      The pressure was absolutely relentless, and for the first time in a while, Scotland looked like they were enjoying their football.
      Adams was next to go close again, his point blank effort well parried away by David Yurchenko in the peppered Armenia goal.
      That was just about that. The rest of the game petered out with a slew of substitutions, and it was Armenia who created a couple of late chances.
      There was an international debut to come.
      Luton star Allan Campbell, called up to the squad as a replacement for the injured Ryan Jack, came on for the last five minutes to finish-off a superb season for himself personally with his first Scotland cap.
      Armenia’s second half ended in similar fashion to the way the first ended – a man named Hovhannisyan losing his head and being sent off.
      This time it was skipper Kamo Hovhannisyan who lunged into a disgraceful, high challenge on Lewis Ferguson that caught the Aberdeen man on his shin. It was an absolute shocker.
      Thankfully, the Scotland midfielder was okay.
      The ref was quickly over and brandishing his red card to the Armenia number 13. They finished with nine men.
      The final whistle went, and this time, no reason for any boos from the travelling Tartan Army support.
