England 0-4 Hungary LIVE RESULT: Abject Three Lions suffer worst home defeat since 1928 as Hungarians run riot

ENGLAND have been hammered by Hungary as they suffered their heaviest home defeat since 1928.Roland Sallai netted from a set piece in the first half and then doubled his tally on the counter-attack in the second.
Adam Nagy then compounded England’s woes by firing into the top corner with ten minutes left.
But the night was still to get worse for Gareth Southgate as John Stones was given a soft second yellow card and Daniel Gazdag dinked the ball over Aaron Ramsdale to net Hungary’s fourth.
    Rossi wants to leave legacy
Where do you want your statue, Marco Rossi?
The Hungary boss revealed after his side’s historic victory at Molineux that he hoped to leave a legacy when his time in charge of the Magyars comes to an end – and he’s certainly going the right way about it.
After their admirable showing in Euro 2020’s group of death, the 57-year-old Italian has now led the Hungarian team to the top of a Nations League group that includes Italy, Germany and England.
Although he slightly tarnished his reputation in his post-match press conference by admitting that was stopping off in Budapest on the way home to watch the Red Hot Chilli Peppers at the Puskas Arena.
I said to the president and prime minister that I want to leave a sign of my presence here. Everybody will die – this is the one thing in the world that is really democratic – and when I die, I’m sure in Hungary there will be one minute of silence in the stadium.Marco Rossi

    Kane: Critics have short memories
Harry Kane has urged disappointed England fans not to forget how far the national side has come in recent years under Gareth Southgate.
The striker pointed to the Three Lions performances at the European Championships and World Cup, and insisted that the squad will give their all to make sure they’re ready by the time November’s tournament in Qatar comes round.
Let’s not forget where we have come from – our first final in 60 years, a semi-final in the World Cup – compared to where we have been in the last 50 years. We’ll keep working to try and have a successful World Cup.Harry KaneChannel 4

    Southgate takes responsibility for selection
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate took full responsibility on a humbling night for English football.
The England manager admitted that the team selected, both tonight and in the away defeat to Hungary, had the wrong balance in order to get the better of their dogged League A opponents.
We picked a young team with energy, but when the game started to go against them, it looked that way. That’s my responsibility. We needed to go for the game at half-time, and made changes that gave us more of an attacking impetus but then we were a little more open as well.
I’ve tried to balance looking at new players and resting players, but the team I’ve selected have not been strong enough to get results in the two Hungary games. I understand that tonight is a chastening experience. I now understand that we need to be at full strength.Gareth SouthgateChannel 4

    Leaders Hungary at the Wolves
Hungary’s thumping 4-0 win against England at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux stadium takes them to the top of League A, Group 3 in the Nations League.
England, on the other hand, are rock bottom, and defeat in Italy when they next play in September would mean relegation from the top set of groups.
Unsurprisingly, the Three Lions are no longer able to top the table.
Elsewhere tonight, Germany leapt over the Italians after crushing them 5-2 in Monchengladbach.

Kane: We will come back stronger
England captain Harry Kane admitted that it was a dismal night for the national team, but vowed that the Three Lions would come back stronger in time for November’s World Cup.
It’s a disappointing night. I thought we created enough chances in the first half to score, but it’s been the story of our Nations League in this camp so far. We haven’t quite had the cutting edge, and the second half was unacceptable to concede in the way we did. We’ve not had a camp like it for a long, long time though. It’s no time to panic, it’s time to keep our heads up, to look forward to a break and come back stronger.Harry KaneChannel 4

    The match stats from Molineux
Aaron Ramsdale faced five shots on target tonight – more than he had in his previous two internationals combined – and conceded four of them.

    Records tumble as Lions crumble
Not only have England lost a home match by four goals without reply for the first time in their history, it’s their biggest margin of defeat at home since losing 5-1 to Scotland 96 years ago.
Indeed, Hungary are the first nation to score four goals away to England since they themselves bagged six in that famous match at Wembley in 1953.

Full time – England 0-4 Hungary
They think it’s all over – and thank heavens it is.
England’s worst defeat since 1964 brings to an end a dreadful international window in which they lost to Hungary twice, and failed to win any of their four games.
Two goals from Roland Sallai, and late strikes from Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag stunned the Three Lions, and left the Molineux crowd gunning – rightly or wrongly – for Gareth Southgate’s head.
Oh well. At least the cricket was good.

    England 0-4 Hungary
    90. Is there anything to be said for turning it off and restarting the game?
I suppose it could be a big marketing campaign for Channel 4’s coverage.
Thankfully, there will only be one minute of stoppage time played.
    England 0-4 Hungary
    89. What kind of thing is happening here?!
In the final minute, Hungary add a fourth and England are staring one of their worst ever results in the face.
It’s all so simple too. Adam Nagy slips a ball through the middle for fellow substitute Daniel Gazdag to shake off the last defender, and nonchalantly dink over Aaron Ramsdale.
The Hungary players can’t believe it. The Hungary fans can’t believe it. And Gareth Southgate certainly can’t believe it.

    England 0-3 Hungary
    87. The travelling Hungary fans are ole-ing every pass.
Which is certainly an improvement on them booing England’s black players.
England 0-3 Hungary – England substitution
    84. Booooooooooooooooooooo.
The home fans can’t believe what they’re seeing now.
At 3-0 down at home to Hungary, Gareth Southgate is introducing Harry Maguire for Bukayo Saka.
I believe this is what they call trolling from the England boss.

England 0-3 Hungary – John Stones red card!
    82. As bad as England have been tonight, the worst performance has arguably been from referee Clement Turpin.
The feeble French official has just sent John Stones off for a second bookable offence, penalising him for being run into by Daniel Gazdag.
His first caution was a joke too.

    England 0-3 Hungary
    81. Chants of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ echo around Molineux from those England fans that remain in the stadium.

    England 0-3 Hungary
    80. Oh dear.
Hungary have a third, and England are in complete disarray.
A quick counter down the right sees a cross stepped up for Loig Nego, whose header is blocked.
However, Martin Adam lays the loose ball back to the advancing Zsolt Nagy, who slams home brilliantly from 20 yards.
    Wow!

    England 0-2 Hungary
    77. Header from Kane! Off the crossbar!
The England captain is unfortunate not to halve the deficit with a brilliantly executed header from Mount’s cross, and then chances his arm by flinging himself in front of a defender with the aim of winning a penalty.
    Well, it worked in Germany
    England 0-2 Hungary
    75. Some intent from Foden but it’s too little, too late.
The substitute cuts inside from the right, and pulls a shot wide of the post from 20 yards.
In any case, Dibusz had it covered.
    England 0-2 Hungary
    74. England huff and puff inside a packed penalty area.
Sterling struggles to dig out a cross, Saka struggles to head back across goal, and eventually the flag goes up for offside.
    England 0-2 Hungary
    72. According to our friends at Squawka, this is the first time in 60 years that Hungary have scored twice in a game against England.
And it’s also how long watching this has felt.
    England 0-2 Hungary
    70. He’s done it again!
Roland Sallai doubles his tally and Hungary’s lead, and the boos ring around Molineux.
Martin Adam is in the thick of things straight away, shrugging off the indecisive Kalvin Phillips, and then feeding Sallai in space.
Under pressure from Kyle Walker, the Hungarian has to take the shot on first time, and does so expertly by smashing the ball through Aaron Ramsdale’s legs with the outside of his foot.
What a shock! What a shocker!

England 0-1 Hungary – Hungary substitution
    68. And now a change for the visitors.
Martin Adam looks more Soccer Aid celebrity than international striker, but – trust me – this guy knows where the goal is.
    He replaces captain Adam Szalai.
England 0-1 Hungary – England substitution
    67. And here is Foden!
The Manchester City forward is on in place of Jude Bellingham.

Back-ups flop in shambolic run as Jarrod Bowen and Co play themselves out of World Cup reckoning

THE idea was for a few of Gareth Southgate’s World Cup wannabes to play their way into the squad. But over these four games in 11 days, most of them played their way OUT of the reckoning.

What an absolute shambles. Barely any of this squad, senior stars or fringe players, can be truly pleased about their performances in this lethargic and uninspiring batch of Nations League games.
Some of them will be downright ashamed. One or two might never return to play for their country.
England were hopeless in the 1-0 loss to Hungary, Jack Grealish delivered a nice cameo in the 1-1 draw with Germany, and Declan Rice produced an assured display in the bore draw at home to Italy.
But against Hungary, in another desperately poor performance, boss Southgate’s stars once again flopped.

For all of these players, the beach could not come soon enough.
And they were perhaps lucky that the crowd were taking their anger out on the manager just as much as the team.
Here was a huge opportunity for Jarrod Bowen to take his terrific form with West Ham onto the international stage. He played in all four matches, starting two of them, but the fact he was replaced at half-time last night by Raheem Sterling said it all.
Bowen had plenty of energy and enthusiasm throughout his total of 180 minutes on the pitch. Yet despite some encouraging flashes, he failed to truly hit the spot for Southgate.

The only real winners from his performances were Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, who will both believe they can force their way back into the squad.
With Bowen not exactly blowing them out of the water, the door is still open if they get off to a good start under new boss Erik ten Hag with Manchester United.
Conor Gallagher was handed his fourth cap and a second start.
Despite a really bright start, when he won some decent tackles and carried the ball forward well enough, he did not really do enough and was replaced by Mason Mount in the 56th minute.
After such a good season on loan at Crystal Palace, Gallagher will fly with Chelsea to the United States for their pre-season on July 8.
If he impresses Thomas Tuchel then he could remain at Stamford Bridge for the whole season.
The problem will be that cameo appearances off the bench will not be enough to keep him in the England squad.
So if Gallagher is to remain in with a shout of featuring in Qatar, he will have to return on loan either back to Palace — or move to somewhere like Everton, with Frank Lampard keen.
Marc Guehi did OK even if his first touch was not great.
Southgate is a clear fan but you would still have the currently injured Ben White ahead of him in the pecking order.
James Ward-Prowse is a player who Southgate absolutely loves but he failed to do enough in his 90 minutes against Italy.
Jordan Henderson was able to skip these four matches — lucky him — and he will definitely return to the squad for the final two Nations League matches against Italy and Germany in September.
The smart money would be on Ward-Prowse, despite his great free-kick stats, missing out.
And we are unlikely to see James Justin again. With England suffering a crisis in the left-back position, the versatile Leicester full-back was handed a debut — only for him to struggle against Hungary in Budapest despite getting injured.

‘don’t know what you’re doing’ to Southgate after bizarre Maguire sub
Against Italy, Tammy Abraham — having scored 27 times for Roma last season — was handed the chance to cement his place as Harry Kane’s deputy up front.
He also failed to impress and it was telling that Southgate decided against giving him a second chance against Hungary.
Fikayo Tomori bagged his third cap against Italy and, after a dodgy start, looked pretty decent and is now ahead of Tyrone Mings.
But despite being axed from the squad, Mings will have been sat at home watching this embarrassment — and probably feeling glad he was not anywhere near it. More

Holland 3 Wales 2: Memphis Depay steals victory after Dragons fight back from 2-0 with Gareth Bale 90th minute equaliser

IT WAS deja vu for Wales against Holland as Louis van Gaal’s side clinched another injury-time Nations League winner.Robert Page’s men suffered agony in Cardiff last Wednesday when Wout Weghorst grabbed a late victory deep in stoppage time for the Dutch just two minutes after the Dragons equalised.

Gareth Bale thought he’d earned Wales a draw with a 92nd-minute penaltyCredit: PA
And, six days on in the reverse fixture at the De Kuip Stadium, lightning struck twice for the Welsh as Memphis Depay slammed home in the 93rd minute, 60 seconds following Gareth Bale’s penalty which looked set to hand the visitors an unlikely point after Connor Roberts was fouled by Tyrell Malacia.
But Depay struck to hand Wales a third Nations League defeat in four matches and cap a crazy end to an entertaining contest in the Netherlands.
Brennan Johnson scored his second goal in as many games in the 26th minute to turn this into a contest as Van Gaal’s coasting Dutch side surged into an early two-goal lead thanks to strikes by Noa Lang and Cody Gakpo.
Continue this form and the Nottingham Forest attacker, hailed as the ‘future of Welsh football’, will be knocking on the door for a starting place at November’s World Cup in Qatar.

Wales boss Page handed Johnson a start with main duo Bale and Aaron Ramsey starting on the bench while Joe Allen was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
There was a carnival atmosphere inside Feyenoord’s home ground and Holland took advantage of slack play from the visitors for Lang’s 17th minute opener.
Ipswich’s Wes Burns got dispossessed by Jordan Teze on the touchline and the defender found Vincent Janssen.
The ex-Tottenham striker fed Lang on the edge of the penalty area and he twisted and turned away from Chris Mepham and Joe Rodon before firing past Wayne Hennessey.

This was Wales’ fifth game in 14 days and Page’s weary side suffered another second blow just six minutes later.
Gakpo saw his initial shot hit Rodon and deflect off defensive partner Mepham back into the striker’s path.
And the PSV Eindhoven forward made no mistake with a low finish from just inside the area.
The signs were ominous for Wales but they were back in the match through rising star Johnson just three minutes later.
Dan James nicked the ball off Teze, Harry Wilson’s through ball saw Johnson calmly allowed the ball to run across his body before shooting through the legs of Matthijs de Ligt into the far corner.
Wales almost gifted a third for the Dutch when a poor pass from keeper Hennessey was too short for James but Janssen fired inches wide.
Holland continued to look a threat early in the second half when Gakpo tested Hennessey.
Johnson produced another flash of his talent with a burst of pace and shot which was well handled by Cillessen.

Armenia 1 Scotland 4: Stuart Armstrong inspires thumping Nations League win as pressure eases on Steve Clarke

SCOTLAND knew the pressure was on in Yerevan.Despite a horror start against Armenia that would have made fears of a repeat of Saturday’s Dublin debacle very real, Steve Clarke’s men came roaring back.
Armstrong was the difference maker in YervanCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
A thumping 4-1 come from behind victory eased the pressure on the head coach, who after two years of what sometimes felt like non-stop positivity, was beginning to feel the heat.
McGinn added the third early in the secondCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
Some big names were missing – skipper Andy Robertson didn’t make the trip to Yerevan through injury, and neither did Scott McKenna or John Souttar who are also carrying knocks.
Four changes were made from the dismal Dublin dismantling, with Billy Gilmour, Stuart Armstrong, Greg Taylor and Nathan Patterson all coming in. Anthony Ralston and Ryan Christie the players, along with Robertson and McKenna, to drop out.
In the build-up to the game, Clarke insisted his future wasn’t up for discussion, while Callum McGregor had called on the nation to keep the faith with the team.
That faith was tested to the max just six minutes into the match in Yerevan.
The Armenians, who showed they were no pushovers by defeating the Republic of Ireland the weekend before last, breezed into an early lead.
It was a defensive shambles for Scotland.
Tigran Barseghyan went head-to-head with Grant Hanley in a duel down the right hand side. The Armenia number 11 brushed the big defender aside with all too much ease and burst away with a clear pathway to the box.

He got to the byline before sending a low ball into the box.
Scott McTominay didn’t get close enough, allowing Vahan Bichakhchyan to find a bit of space. He blasted in past the helpless Craig Gordon from five yards out.
An absolutely calamitous start for Clarke’s men, who knew the had to respond.
Much to the relief of all concerned, that’s exactly what happened.
Behind for just eight minutes, the Scots came firing back in the form of Stuart Armstrong.
Jack Hendry sent a well-weighted ball into Che Adams. The Southampton front man took a nice touch, setting himself up for an overhead kick.
The execution was all wrong from the striker, but his miscued effort bounced towards his club teammate Armstrong, who slotted a superb low drive into the bottom corner for his first Scotland goal since 2019.
“And that is the response. Exactly what Scotland and Steve Clarke needed!” 🗣️A cool finish from Stuart Armstrong and the Tartan Army celebrate getting back on level terms already 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿#ARMSCO | @ScotlandNT pic.twitter.com/iTC2IjP6gQ— Premier Sports (@PremierSportsTV) June 14, 2022

The Scots kept on flirting with danger, however, and Armenia had the ball in the net again moments later.
A ball over the top saw Khorem Bayramyan get in behind the back three. Scott McTominay got back to block, but the midfielder finished at the second attempt.
The assistant referee’s flag offered a reprieve however, with offside the verdict. VAR Kevin Blom (yes, that Kevin Blom of Jan Rezek/Czech Republic/Hampden infamy) thankfully agreed.
Adams fired just wide as Scotland looked to go ahead, while Nathan Patterson totally fluffed his lines when a good opening fell his way.
Armstrong showed some clever footwork down the left hand side before finding the Everton defender near the penalty spot – his effort, however, went in the completely wrong direction.
A huge turning point in the final minute of normal time went in Scotland’s favour. It came in the form of a moment – or rather, two moments – of madness.
Armenia defender Arman Hovhannisyan went flying into a reckless challenge on Patterson.
A MASSIVE break for Scotland just before half time! 😮Hovhannisyan is booked twice in a matter of seconds and Armenia are reduced to 10 men 🟥 pic.twitter.com/f87qq4B1eN— Premier Sports (@PremierSportsTV) June 14, 2022

As the referee was running over with yellow card in hand, the Armenia defender inexplicably thrust his head into John McGinn’s face.
It was a crazy thing to do and the yellow card very quickly became a red one and the hosts were down to ten men.
Scotland were quick to take advantage and turn the game right around, and in absolutely sublime style.
McGinn, who has struggled to find his best form during this international window, produced a sensational back heeled flick to find Armstrong in the box.
The former Celtic and Dundee United man showed wonderful control once again to set up the shot.
Despite being off balance, Armstrong brilliantly fired into the far corner to give Scotland the half-time lead.

Scotland were in no mood to hang around in the second half either, bagging goal number three just five minutes into the second 45.
Greg Taylor got to the byline and sent in an excellent ball to the back post.
There waiting was Patterson, who controlled the ball well and pushed it into McGinn’s path.
The stand-in skipper showed a brilliant touch, before chesting the ball down, swivelling and blasting in from close range.
No sooner was it 3-1 and it was 4-1 – and game over.
The fourth came at the end of an emphatic counter attacking move.
Armstrong, having one of his finest Scotland performances, was at the very heart of it again. He charged forward in possession, before beautifully finding Adams who had got himself clear down the left hand side.
The striker took the ball into the box, cut inside and fired a lovely curling finish into the net. Two goals in three minutes, and three points all but secured.

Armstrong, whose two goals so far had doubled his tally of international goals to four, was in the mood and he was very close to a hat trick.
Another counter attack saw the 29-year old bear down on the box. He pinged a lovely curling effort towards the far corner, but it curled just wide of the post.
The pressure was absolutely relentless, and for the first time in a while, Scotland looked like they were enjoying their football.
Adams was next to go close again, his point blank effort well parried away by David Yurchenko in the peppered Armenia goal.
That was just about that. The rest of the game petered out with a slew of substitutions, and it was Armenia who created a couple of late chances.
There was an international debut to come.
Luton star Allan Campbell, called up to the squad as a replacement for the injured Ryan Jack, came on for the last five minutes to finish-off a superb season for himself personally with his first Scotland cap.
Armenia’s second half ended in similar fashion to the way the first ended – a man named Hovhannisyan losing his head and being sent off.
This time it was skipper Kamo Hovhannisyan who lunged into a disgraceful, high challenge on Lewis Ferguson that caught the Aberdeen man on his shin. It was an absolute shocker.
Thankfully, the Scotland midfielder was okay.
The ref was quickly over and brandishing his red card to the Armenia number 13. They finished with nine men.
The final whistle went, and this time, no reason for any boos from the travelling Tartan Army support.
After an international break full of disappointment and uncertainties, the Nations League campaign is just about back on track.

Jordan Pickford may well return for England after Aaron Ramsdale was given a chance between the sticks against Italy.
After an excellent season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, Conor Gallagher is likely to get a chance in midfield.

    Au revoir from Saint-Denis
Goodnight from France – but not a good night for France.
Defeat to Croatia in front of their own fans at the Stade de France meant that Les Bleus ended this bumper international window without a win.
It means that Didier Deschamps’ men will be unable to successfully defend their Nations League title, but the bigger concern will be whether they can successfully defend their World Cup come November.
Until then, there is plenty of French food for fought – they’re just lucky it tastes good.
Thanks for joining us, and goodnight.
French rooted to foot of group
Defeat this evening has ensured that France will be unable to successfully defend their Nations League title.
Didier Deschamps team at bottom of the pile in League A, Group 1, and in serious danger of relegation.
Croatia, meanwhile, are up to second following victory, behind leaders Denmark, who beat Austria by two goals in Copenhagen.

Match stats from Stade de France
France racked up 17 attempts on goal, but barely tested Croatia goalkeeper Ivica Ivusic on what was a well-drilled and well-deserved win for the visitors.

Full time – France 0-1 Croatia
It’s all over! A famous win for Croatia, and another game without success for the French.
Just as they did a week ago, Didier Deschamps’ team paid the penalty, conceding from the spot – this time to Luka Modric in the fifth minute.
It means Les Bleus are winless from their four games in this international break, and exposes their coach to a summer of speculation regarding his future.

France 0-1 Croatia – Croatian substitution
90+1. Zlatko Dalic eats up a few more seconds with a final substitution.
Mateo Kovacic takes his leave – very slowly – and on comes Luka Sucic.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    90. The fourth official signals that there will be four minutes of added time played at the Stade de France.
Are Croatia on the verge of a famous victory on French soil?
    France 0-1 Croatia
    89. As far as this game goes, the French have run out of ideas, and are quickly running out of time.
As far as his job goes, can the same be said of Didier Deschamps?
    France 0-1 Croatia
    87. West Ham’s Vlasic almost seals victory for Croatia with a few minutes remaining.
The visitors again break up some laboured French possession, and get forward in numbers.
Eventually, the ball is played into the path of substitute Vlasic, whose turn and shot is smothered by Maignan.
The French goalkeeper has certainly made more meaningful saves than his French counterpart this evening.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    84. A brilliant curling cross into the box from Coman is dealt with just as well by the head of Sutalo.
Benzema’s input tonight has been minimal. What happened to that guy who was sensational for Real Madrid in the Champions League?
    France 0-1 Croatia
    82. Inside the final ten minutes now, and are the French running out of ideas.
There’s plenty of le puff and le huff, but little in the way of creative threat.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    80. Didier Deschamps throws caution to the wind – as much as Didier Deschamps can throw caution to the wind.
He takes off his combative midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, and sends on Antoine Griezmann, who receives a hero’s reception from the home fans.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    78. Mbappe. Shot. Wide.
    Rinse and repeat.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    76. A French set-piece, delivered by Digne, causes momentary panic in the box before Ivusic leaps to claim the ball.
However, that’s not the end of the danger as far as Croatia are concerned – and that’s because a VAR check is in progress, supposedly for a handball in the area.
After a nervous 30 seconds or so, the word comes through to play on and the visitors breathe a sigh of relief.
France 0-1 Croatia – France substitution
    74. Didier Deschamps’ responds with a switch of his own.
He introduces Kingsley Coman in place of Christopher Nkunku.
France 0-1 Croatia – Croatia substitutions
    73. A double switch for the visitors.
Zlatko Dalic sends on both Andrej Kramaric and Nikola Vlasic for Ante Budimir and Josip Brekalo.
Kramaric bagged a goal against the French a week ago, can he make an impact again?
    France 0-1 Croatia
    72. Croatia substitute Majer almost doubles the visitors’ lead.
The midfielder – who plays his football in France with Rennes – took a delightful first touch to move the ball away from Kimpembe, and then unleashed a snapshot that Maignan did well to save.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    69. They may not have been awarded a spotkick, but the move in question was another indication that Digne is one of France’s most attacking threats.
In fact, Mbappe aside, the Villa man has been Les Bleus’ most dangerous attacking outlet this evening.
France 0-1 Croatia – Rabiot yellow card
    67. Now was that a penalty?!
Digne gets into the box and towards the byline ahead of Erlic, but then flings himself to the ground at the merest contact from the defender.
To make matters worse for the French, not only does referee Grinfeeld say no, he also books Rabiot for his protests.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    66. Mbappe is ready to reenter the fray.
He’s moving somewhat delicately, but there doesn’t appear to be any lasting damage.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    65. Ouch! Mbappe has gone down and looks in real discomfort.
The French star was certainly caught by Juranovic on the foot, but contact looked innocuous.
Having looked as though he was ready to run it off, Mbappe has now gone down again and requires treatment.
France 0-1 Croatia – Pavard yellow card
    63. Substitute Pavard has had an 18 minutes to forget so far.
Having nearly gifted Croatia a second, the right-back has now gone into the book for a clumsy foul on Brekalo.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    61. Mbappe! Denied again by Ivusic again!
Nkunku ouched a lovely pass in behind the Croatian defence for the PSG forward, who attempted to slide a measured effort beyond the onrushing goalkeeper without success.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    59. Now the French are turning up the heat, and the home fans are responding in kind.
Ivusic scampers across his goal to turn a speculative Mbappe shot away, and that encourages the France supporters even more.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    57. A poor defensive header from Pavard presents Juranovic to race into the box.
The Celtic man looks up and feeds Pasalic in the centre, who looks certain to score until Tchouameni dives in out of nowhere with a goal-saving tackle of the highest order.
    France 0-1 Croatia
    55. Mbappe goes for the spectacular and nearly digs the French out of a hole!
The PSG’s forward’s first time thumper from 30 yards flies just wide of Ivusic’s right-hand post.

Harry Kane hails ‘fantastic’ Gareth Southgate as England captain comes out swinging in defence of boss’ tactics

HARRY KANE has come out swinging in defence of Gareth Southgate following criticism of his tactics and selections.Southgate’s Three Lions are bottom of their Nations League group and must beat Hungary at Molineux on Tuesday night — or face the threat of relegation to the second tier for next year’s European Championship qualifying draw.
Harry Kane has defended Gareth Southgate following recent criticismCredit: Reuters
But skipper Kane said: “I can’t speak highly enough of Gareth. He’s a fantastic manager and a fantastic person and we are all looking forward to being with each other in another major tournament.”
England have just two draws and a Kane penalty to show for their efforts in the opening three Nations League fixtures.
But the Spurs striker is baffled at the stick dished out by the likes of TV pundit Gary Lineker.
He said: “We have been one of the most successful England teams in the past 50 years, so we’re definitely on the right track.

“If you look at where we were in 2016 compared to where we are now, we have made massive improvements and strides.
“We’ve knocked down a lot of hurdles in major tournaments by doing stuff no England team has done for a long time.
“Of course, we haven’t won anything yet so there is still room to improve  — and maybe criticism is part and parcel of things when England don’t win for a couple of games.
“But I’ve been with Gareth since the Under-21s and he really understands what the England team needs to be successful.
