Dier BANS mum from stadium as he fears fan abuse is getting worse two years after charging into stands to confront troll

ERIC DIER has banned his mum from going to games because he fears abuse is getting worse. The defender, included in the England squad for the Nations League games against Italy and Germany, revealed friends and other family members were abused during Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea last month.

Dier, 28, was banned for four matches and fined £40,000 for jumping into the crowd to confront a fan who abused his brother in March 2020.
Quizzed about fan behaviour, Dier said: “It’s definitely got worse. It is a huge, huge problem. There are some things I find very strange. It is not nice.
“My mum has not been to an away game. She would love to but I would be worried about it — and that’s crazy, isn’t it? All of our families go through it.
“Every player’s parents have been watching them since they were kids and have gone through that kind of stuff.”

Although mum Louise was not at Stamford Bridge on August 14, other members of Dier’s family were.
He added: “I had some family and friends at the Chelsea away game and they had problems and stuff. Not nice ones either. It was verbal not physical but, like, bad stuff.
“One incident was in the Tottenham away end. I am saying it is football fans in general — but I also want to emphasise that it was both sets of fans.”
Dier, who hopes to win his 46th cap against Italy in Milan on Friday, is clearly annoyed over his FA ban in 2020.

He claimed he had left the pitch and clambered over rows of seats in an attempt to protect his brother Patrick, who was involved in an argument.
Dier said: “I don’t know what I can say about it because I don’t know if I’ll get banned or fined again or whatever.
“But I don’t regret it at all and I’d do it again. For my family, team-mates, anyone, a friend of mine. I consider myself to be extremely loyal.”
Meanwhile, Dier is desperate to finally get on the St George’s Park wall of fame.
The Tottenham defender has been rewarded after his strong performances at the back for Antonio Conte by being included in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad.
Dier last played in a 4-0 win over Iceland in November 2020. He was called up by Southgate for three matches in March 2021 but was not picked.

And now he is hoping to feature on the wall in the Hilton Hotel at SGP, which started in April 2019 and includes every England representative from the men’s seniors to the futsal team who have earned 50 and 100 caps.
Asked what it would mean to reach the half-century, Dier said: “Yes, it would mean a lot. It’s something that when I wasn’t in the squad it was playing on my mind that I was so close to it. That did annoy me.
“I would love to be able to get to that kind of milestone. I’ve seen they’ve got a board up now in the reception of the hotel, of all the people who have made 50 and 100. It’s a dream to be able to reach that.
“I know I don’t seem happy but I’m very happy to be back. I’m very proud of making it back, I just don’t like dramatising it too much.
“I’ve reached my best level in my career, not just this season but last season as well. I think I’m getting better — and I think I can get better.”
Dier, one of the stars of England’s World Cup campaign in Russia in 2018, struggled under Jose Mourinho in the 2020-21 season and was heartbroken to miss out on Euro 2020 last summer.
Yet he is in his element under Conte, who has helped Spurs to be much stronger at the back.
Dier said: “It was my most difficult season when I did miss out on the Euros. I think there were many reasons for the light to be shone the way it was.
“It was not as bad as some people like to make out in terms of my performances. It was good for me, in some ways. I learned a lot from it.
“I don’t want to sound like a teacher’s pet but he (Conte) has done a lot for me. I have learnt so much, different things tactically. He is the godfather of that system.

“He gave me my belief back a little bit as well.”
On England’s fixtures, he added: “They couldn’t be better, to play Italy away, Germany at home. I’m just very excited. These are the games I want to play.” More

England could face horror Euro 2024 qualifying draw if they fail to beat Italy AND Germany in Nations League

ENGLAND must pull off a Nations League rescue job over the next week to stay in the top tier for next month’s Euro 2024 qualifying draw.Uefa confirmed the 53 remaining nations – Germany qualify as hosts while Russia have been banned – will be placed in two groups of either five or six teams, with the top two qualifying automatically.
Pressure is on Southgate to beat Italy and GermanyCredit: Getty
But the seeding groups will be determined by the final standings in the Nations League, with Gareth Southgate’s side facing relegation after two draws and two defeats in June.
It means the Three Lions probably have to beat both Italy and Germany to get into the top 10 in the standings and stay as first seeds, although the penalty for being a second seed is not likely to be too severe.
So unless England do pull off two huge wins, they could end up in Pot B for the Euro 2024 qualifying draw.
And that may lead to a horror qualifying group potentially featuring Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Northern Ireland.
However, two teams will qualify from each group meaning Harry Kane and co will be confident of progressing to the tournament no matter who they are drawn against.

First the Three Lions take on Euro 2020 champions Italy in Milan on Friday.
England suffered penalty shootout heartbreak against the Italians in the final last summer.
And then on Monday the Germans travel to Wembley for another crucial Nations League clash.
As it stands, Southgate’s men are bottom of League A Group 3, they have no wins and two draws from four games.

And they suffered a 4-0 humiliation at Molineux against Hungary in their last game in the competition.
There was at least some positive news for Southgate, as Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was added to the squad.

Kieran Trippier forced to delay meeting up with England squad with Newcastle star given extra time for personal reasons

ENGLAND star Kieran Trippier is reportedly yet to link up with the squad due to personal reasons ahead of Friday’s clash against Italy. However it has been claimed that the 32-year-old hasn’t pulled out of the squad, and remains in contention to face the Azzurri in the crucial Nations League meeting.

According to BBC reporter Alex Howell, the Newcastle defender isn’t currently at St George’s Park with the rest of his Three Lions team-mates.
Boss Gareth Southgate has given him time off for personal reasons.
Though it has been said that the former Tottenham man is expected to be at England’s headquarters in Burton upon Trent later on Tuesday.
He remains available for selection in the upcoming clashes against Italy in Milan on Friday, and Germany at Wembley next week.
    READ MORE ENGLAND NEWS
Trippier has been ever-present for the Magpies this season having featured in all seven Premier League matches.
And he showed he is still capable of producing moments of magic as shown by his glorious free-kick in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City.
As well as Trippier, his Newcastle team-mate Nick Pope has also been called up by Southgate following his strong start to the campaign.
It is the first time that Newcastle have had two players in an England squad since Scott Parker and Alan Smith were selected in 2007.

One player that was at St George’s Park on Tuesday was Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson.
Despite missing the last three games with a hamstring injury, the former Sunderland ace was handed a late call-up after Kalvin Phillips was forced to pull out.

England confirmed the announcement in a statement earlier today, with Henderson now in contention to feature at the San Siro.
The decision was made to call-up Henderson after he came through a number of workout sessions over the weekend. More

How England could line up against Italy with Gareth Southgate facing goalkeeper dilemma after Jordan Pickford injury

GARETH SOUTHGATE is set to pick his penultimate England team before the World Cup when they face Italy in Milan on Friday. The Three Lions will take on the European champions in the Nations League, before hosting Germany on Monday.
How SunSport expects England to line up against Italy
The two matches offer Southgate a final opportunity to look at players before he selects his 26-man squad for Qatar in October.
And there are still a host of questions for the England boss to answer less than two months out from the start of the tournament.
The most pressing one for these upcoming Nations League fixtures is who will replace the injured Jordan Pickford in between the sticks.
Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale and Newcastle shot-stopper Nick Pope are both vying for the spot – with Dean Henderson expected to miss out.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
Then there is the debate as to whether Southgate goes with a back three or back four.
If it is a three then expect Tottenham man Eric Dier to return to the fold after two years out of the national side.
Harry Maguire and John Stones will likely form a trio either side of him, with Chelsea wingbacks Ben Chilwell and Reece James on the flanks.
Alternatively, he could opt to go with a four and try out the likes of Marc Guehi and Fikayo Tomori.

Another way Southgate could choose to line up against Italy
Kyle Walker could then come in as a more defensive right-back compared with James and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Kieran Trippier is also an option at left-back, especially given the poor form of Luke Shaw.
In midfield, Declan Rice is a certainty.

But the spot alongside him is up for grabs, particularly given Kalvin Phillips has been ruled out and replaced in the squad by Jordan Henderson.
The Liverpool man is an option, but you would imagine Jude Bellingham is the favourite to fill that spot ahead of Henderson and James Ward-Prowse.
Then up front, a 3-4-3 would allow Southgate to play his favoured front three – Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Mason Mount.
    Read More on The Sun
But a 4-2-3-1 could mean Mount takes up the No10 position either side of the wide men – any two of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish or Jarrod Bowen.
And there is also a chance Kane may make way for Ivan Toney – who has earned his first England call-up and will be hoping to make a late case for a spot on the plane. More

Tomorrow, the team is due to have a group photo at their Clairefontaine training base.
Other sponsorship activities will also take place ahead of November’s World Cup group stage opener against Australia.

ESPN claims the Paris Saint-Germain star, 23, does not want to endorse several brands – including betting and fast food outlets.
Instead, he hopes to have a say on future sponsors with French footballers.
And after refusing to take part in March’s activities, Mbappe insists he will continue to stay away from France’s latest photoshoots.
Mbappe said in a statement: “I have decided to not take part in the photoshoot after the French federation refusal to change the image rights agreement with the players.

French FA president Noel Le Graet is expected to meet players shortly to discuss the issues and Mbappe’s concerns.
He already met with the player’s mother, Fayza Lamari, in June to discuss potential changes.
And it’s claimed Mbappe was led to believe things would be different ahead of the World Cup.
