Watch Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati become Spain’s youngest-ever scorer with stunning Ukraine strike

BARCELONA wonderkid Ansu Fati broke a 95-year record to become Spain’s youngest goalscorer in a 4-0 win against Ukraine.
The 17-year-old – also the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history – fired a stunning strike from outside the box into the far bottom corner.

The forward, who came on for his senior Spain debut during the 1-1 draw with Germany this week, caused havoc on his first start.
Fati, who became the youngest player to start a Nations League match, won a penalty within two minutes that Sergio Ramos duly converted.
The Real Madrid captain added a second with a towering header to bag his tenth goal in his last 15 caps.
But the pick of the bunch came from Fati minutes later after firing in off the post, having gone close with an overhead kick and another effort earlier on.

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, 19, later made his debut as a second-half substitute.
And his new teammate Ferran Torres, 20, struck on the volley in the 84th minute to get his first goal for his country and round off victory for Spain.
Catalan prodigy Fati meanwhile became Spain’s youngest scorer at the age of 17 years and 311 days.
Juan Errazquin was the previous record holder, notching against Switzerland in 1925 at the age of 18 years and 344 days.

Fati was born in Guinea-Bissau but moved to Seville aged six with his family and is the latest graduate from Barcelona’s fabled academy.
Spain’s comfortable victory over Ukraine has sent them to the top of League A Group 4 with four points from two games.
Elsewhere, Germany were held to a 1-1 draw against Switzerland after Silvan Widmer’s strike cancelled out Ilkay Gundogan’s opener.

Wales 1 Bulgaria 0: Neco Williams shows Gareth Southgate what he’s missing with 95th-minute Nations League winner

NECO WILLIAMS opened his Wales account with a stoppage-time header to earn Ryan Giggs’ side a big win over Bulgaria.
The Wrexham-born teenager only made his international debut in the week but chalked up the Dragons’ fourth win in a row with a stunning late goal.

Not since March 2003 have Wales won four competitive games in a row and they now sit comfortably atop their Nations League group.
A quiet game saw the visitors to Cardiff City Stadium fire off only two shots, with little to worry about down the other end until late on.
David Brooks rattled the woodwork with 15 minutes to go before Williams popped up to bag the winner.
Jonny Williams’ cross floated over Gareth Bale and was met by the right-back’s accurate header.

The Liverpool youngster could hardly express his disbelief afterwards, telling Sky Sports: “To be honest I can’t sum it up.
“I thought before the goal we made about 25 passes so the build-up was the main thing.

When you’re a kid you dream of playing for your country. To get the opportunity and do what I’m doing is surreal.
    Neco Williams

“To get my first goal for my country is a proud moment for me and my family and something I will remember for the rest of my life.”
The goal comes less than 24 hours after it was revealed England made a cheeky bid to bring the defender into Gareth Southgate’s reckoning.

But Williams has stuck with Wales to form part of Giggs’ incredibly youthful squad – and admitted it was a “surreal” feeling to score his first goal.
He continued: “It’s happened so quick. When you’re a kid you dream of playing for your country.
“To get the opportunity and do what I’m doing is surreal. If I can keep getting my chances I can hopefully get some more goals.
“Being part of this team is like a family. All the boys are really close and the senior lads help us young lads.

“The talent we have is unbelievable.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic brands Swedish football a ‘f***ing joke’ in Twitter attack after 1-0 Nations League defeat to France

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC has ripped into Sweden boss Janne Andersson for benching Dejan Kulusevski in the 1-0 defeat to France on Saturday.
The AC Milan striker took to Twitter where he expressed his anger after Les Bleus emerged victorious in the Nations League clash.

Juventus midfielder Kulusevski came on for the last 20 minutes against the world champions, with the player stating he was shocked to not be in the starting XI.
His comments then drew a surprised reaction from Andersson, which led Ibrahimovic to quote tweet an article from Swedish news outlet Aftonbladet.
The 38-year-old raged: “What a f****** joke. Further proof.
“Incompetent people in the wrong positions smothering Swedish football.”

Speaking after the loss, Kulusevski was asked whether he was given enough time to impress, he said: “No, no, I don’t think so.
“I was shocked. It felt really, really good in training.
“But unfortunately, that’s how football is.”
Commenting on Kulusevski’s reaction, Andersson told reporters: “I haven’t spoken to him afterwards but if he has said it then that is clearly his opinion.

“We will see if there will be more playing time on Tuesday. He has great qualities and is a great player and will grow into this eventually.”

Griezmann misses THIRD straight penalty for France but Deschamps blames lack of training at Barcelona for spot-kick woes

FRANCE boss Didier Deschamps has blamed Barcelona for Antoine Griezmann missing his third straight penalty for the national team.
The 29-year-old blazed his spot-kick over the bar in injury time in the 1-0 win against Sweden in the Nations League on Saturday.

It was his third consecutive miss from 12 yards out for Les Blues having missed against Albania and Andorra last September.
And Deschamps has defended the 2018 World Cup winner, as he claimed Griezmann is struggling because he doesn’t take penalties for Barcelona.
Griezmann is yet to take a penalty for the Bluagrana, with his last spot-kick at club level coming in January 2019 during his time at Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to TF1 via GFFN, Deschamps said: “So long as he feels it and wants to take them, he will continue to take them.

“It is not because he has missed three, it would be another taker, but I am not going to say to you today that because he has missed three that he will no longer take them.
“The problem, is that he does not take them with his club so he does not train on this particular thing.
“We spoke about it at the beginning of this international break.
“Thankfully for France, when he has had to take them, important penalties, notably at the World Cup, his little foot did not tremble and he did what was needed.”

Griezmann’s future at the Nou Camp remains in question after Lionel Messi confirmed he will be staying at Barcelona.
It has been claimed that the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all keen on the ex-Real Sociedad star.
Spanish media even stated that Barca offered Griezmann back to Atletico in return for Joao Felix., but the proposal was swiftly rejected.

Roy Keane and Ian Wright clash as Man Utd icon calls out Ward-Prowse’s ‘cheating’ for scuffing penalty spot vs Iceland

ROY KEANE and Ian Wright clashed over James Ward-Prowse’s “cheating” to scuff up the penalty spot against Iceland.
The former Manchester United captain was unhappy with the England midfielder for his antics ahead of the last-minute penalty.

The Southampton midfielder was not booked for his antics as Birkir Bjarnason went overCredit: Sky Sports
TV cameras picked up the Southampton star dragging his studs over the spot in an attempt to rough up the turf.
And – whether because of Ward-Prowse’s sly intervention or not – Iceland missed the penalty as Birkir Bjarnason sent Iceland’s spot-kick over the bar as he tried to find the top corner.
It ensured Joe Gomez was let off the hook just seconds after Raheem Sterling had rolled in a penalty of his own at the other end to put the Three Lions in front in their Nations League opener.
But Keane and Wright had differing views on the antics during the ITV coverage, with the Irishman labelling Ward-Prowse a cheat.

Uncompromising as ever, Keane simply said: “It’s cheating Wrighty, it’s cheating.
“That’s cheating and I don’t like to see it. Talk about the spirit of the game. ”
Presenter Mark Pougatch highlighted the fact that if the referee spotted JWP’s gamesmanship, he would have booked him.
And Keane added: “It’s not allowed, it’s cheating.”

    3

Keane and Wright had differing views on the gamesmanship with the ex-Arsenal striker condoning it

But a laughing Wright said: “I don’t mind that from an England player, a little bit of housery.
“What I like about Ward-Prowse is that he’s got that about him, he’s got that little devilment about him.
“Maybe [it is cheating] but to see an England player do it… if that happens in a competition and we get something from it I’m not going to complain.
“It happens. Cheating or not, it’s happened and that gets us to the next round maybe.”

Eagled-eyed Keane felt there was another reason behind Bjarnason’s miss – the midfielder being far too relaxed.
Footage from the tunnel ahead of kick-off showed the former Aston Villa man leaning against the wall as he waited to walk out.
Keane said: “I never fancied him with the penalty. I understand players being relaxed sometimes, but he’s almost too relaxed.
“He looks like he’s just waiting to go to the toilet or for a taxi.”

Thiago Silva’s greatness can rub off on Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu, claims Wales boss Ryan Giggs

ETHAN AMPADU has been urged to stay at Chelsea and learn the art of defending from Thiago Silva.
Brazilian Thiago, 35, joined Frank Lampard’s side last month on a free from Paris Saint-Germain.

    4

Ryan Giggs hopes Thiago Silva can help the Welshman achieve success in West London
Teen star Ampadu is back at Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan in Germany with RB Leipzig.
And the Wales ace, who starred in the 1-0 Nations League victory over Finland on Thursday in his first international game at centre-back, has been tipped by national boss Ryan Giggs to develop under Thiago’s knowledge and experience.
Giggs’ side face Bulgaria in Cardiff on Sunday. And when asked if Ampadu can learn from his new club-mate, he said: “Oh yeah. He’s been a quality centre-back for the last 15 years.
“When you see a player like that in training and games, you can only learn from it.

“Ethan definitely will, along with the other talented players at Chelsea.”
Following his stint in the Bundesliga versatile Ampadu — who can also play in midfield — is willing to fight for his Chelsea place despite interest from numerous clubs to go out on loan again.
The 19-year-old has been plagued by a back injury, linked to growing pains, which meant he only played seven times for the Germans.
But the former Exeter man’s last appearance made an impression on Giggs.

I want all the players to be playing regularly but that sometimes isn’t the case.
    Ryan Giggson Ethan Ampadu

He lined up in a back three for Leipzig in February’s 1-0 Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Tottenham.
Giggs said: “I want all the players to be playing regularly but that sometimes isn’t the case.
“It’s that balance over whether they’re at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch.
“That’s a decision for Ethan. I’ve talked to him about it a lot. Last year was maybe a little bit different as he had injuries.
“You could see from the game against Tottenham he was outstanding.
“Nothing fazes him, he’s a quality player and he just needs to keep fit now and he will get minutes wherever he is.
“I wanted to try Ethan at centre-back because he does give you a different option with how comfortable he is on the ball.
“He has played more in midfield, which he can do as well. I was really impressed. He brings that calmness, he gets us up the pitch and he’s got composure on the ball.

Wayne Hennessey believes the former Manchester United star is the ideal coach for AmpaduCredit: Reuters
“I haven’t really pigeonholed a position for him — he can play in defence or midfield.”
Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey said: “With the style of play that Ryan has got us playing Ethan is fantastic to have at the back.
“He’s comfortable on the ball, a good talker and he leads well from the defence.
“He is the kind of player who you can give the ball to in any circumstance. He plays really well with the players around him.
“From a goalkeeper’s perspective he is fantastic to have around.”
Ampadu could be joined in Giggs’ side by David Brooks after the Bournemouth winger recovered from an ankle injury to link up with the Wales squad in Cardiff on Friday.
Giggs added: “It’s great news and a bonus.
“He had a slight injury last weekend training with Bournemouth so we were just monitoring him with the hope he would be able to join up.

“The scan came back clear and he’s fine.
“You could see in training in a small-sided game the way he glides past players, he’s a delight to work with.
“He gives us a different option and hopefully he can get back to the form where he was player of the season for us two years ago.”

ENGLAND have beaten Iceland to take all three points in their opening Nations League game – but not without a scare.
Raheem Sterling netted a late penalty after Kyle Walker had seen red for the visitors, before Birkir Bjarnason had the chance to level in the 93rd minute but skied his own spot-kick over the bar.
Final score:  Iceland 0-1 England (Sterling pen 90′)

    SOUTHGATE SUB
Gareth Southgate was left annoyed by Uefa’s decision not to introduce five substitutes in the Nations League.
The England boss admitting his side were lacking sharpness in attack during their 1-0 win.
After the game Southgate said: “We knew [the quick turnaround] was going to be a huge challenge and that’s part of the reason we thought five subs would be in for this.
“I didn’t quite understand that. They put them in for the Under-21s last night.
“For us the Nations League was the perfect opportunity to do it and when it was voted through I didn’t think for the league it would be appropriate but I felt [it would be] for the Nations League – especially for every country in this September camp, it was difficult for player fitness.
“That wasn’t the case so we’re going to have to work our way through that.”
