Eden Hazard ‘to miss Real Madrid’s LaLiga opener’ with ankle injury after ‘annoying’ club by jetting off on Belgium duty

EDEN HAZARD is set to sit out Real Madrid’s LaLiga opener after failing to recover from an ankle injury.
Going without their star winger for Sunday’s match at Real Sociedad will give Los Blancos further reason to be unhappy with him.

Reports of discontent at the Bernabeu have grown in recent weeks, following Hazard’s difficult first year in Spain.
A series of injuries and poor form restricted the former Chelsea ace to 14 league starts and a single goal after his £150million move.
According to Cadena Cope, Hazard’s latest setback means he will miss the weekend’s LaLiga opener.
Madrid have put the 29-year-old on a special training regime to fix the ankle injury holding him back.

It follows reports of angry Real bosses telling their forward to knuckle down after turning up for pre-season in poor shape.
Only last week, Spanish media detailed how he needed at least two more weeks to get match fit.
Despite his strict regime, Hazard jetted off to join Belgium’s Nations League camp.
He did not play in either win over Denmark and Iceland.

Eden Hazard steps up training after angering Real Madrid by returning from summer break overweight
Yet he reportedly attracted criticism from those within his club who prefer that he focus on his recovery in Madrid.
Real kick off their title defence in San Sebastian at 8pm on Sunday.
Martin Odegaard could make his first appearance for the club in five years if he overcomes a knee knock, with Gareth Bale also a doubt. More

Icelandic beauty had to check Phil Foden’s Instagram to remember England ace’s name and jokes he owes her £55 for hotel

THE Icelandic beauty who spent the night with Phil Foden revealed she had to keep checking his Instagram while with him to remember his name.
Foden and Mason Greenwood were sent home in disgrace last week after the pair evaded hotel security to meet up with Nadia Gunnarsdottir, 20, and Lara Clausen, 19, at England’s Reykjavik hotel – in a breach of strict Covid-19 protocols.

Lara Clausen and Nadia Gunnarsdottir recalled their night with the England pair in the hotel

Lara Clausen – who admitted the Manchester City star left the hotel room VERY happy – confessed she struggled to remember his name.
Speaking alongside her cousin Nadia Gunnarsdottir with Icelandic podcast host Solvi Tryggvason, Lara said: “I really never could pronounce and remember his name.
“I sometimes needed to go back on Instagram because I had forgotten his name.”
With the England stars unable to leave the team hotel, Greenwood asked Nadia to book herself into the £55-a-night Radisson Blu hotel England were staying in for the Nations League game and snuck up to the seventh floor to meet her along with Foden.

Gunnarsdottir’s cousin Lara joined her and the England pair at the hotel
They were later joined by Gunnarsdottir’s cousin Lara, who also paid for a room and even brought jelly babies for the England duo at their request.
Lara explained how Manchester City star Foden had left their late-night rendezvous “very happy” but has yet to pay her back for her room despite promising to do so.
Nadia said: “It was never planned that Mason would pay for my room.
“Phil wanted Lara to come after I showed him Lara’s Instagram profile.

“He immediately responded ‘I’m going to pay for the room, she must come!'”
Lara added: “I spent £55 on the hotel room and gasoline.
“I do not get paid a million (Icelandic Krona, £5,500) a month!”
At which point Nadia said: “God, they get paid a lot more than a million each month.”

Foden and Greenwood have both issued apologies for their actions
Foden, 20, and Greenwood, 18, both issued apologies for their actions and were fined £1,360 for breaching Iceland’s own coronavirus regulations.
Foden said: “Following the story which has emerged regarding my actions in Iceland, I want to make a full apology.
“I apologise to Gareth Southgate, to my England team-mates, to the staff, supporters, and also to my club and my family.
“On this occasion I made a poor decision and my behaviour didn’t meet the standards expected of me.
“I breached Covid-19 protocols put in place to protect myself and my England colleagues.
“I will learn a valuable lesson from this error in judgement and I wish Gareth and the team good luck this week.”
Last night Foden was accused of attempting to meet up with another girl while on international duty with England under-21s last year.
Man United forward Greenwood issued an apology through his club which read: “Having now had the chance to reflect on what’s happened, I can only apologise to everyone for the embarrassment I have caused.

“It was irresponsible of me to break the Covid-19 protocols which are in place to protect players, staff and the public.
“In particular, I want to apologise to Gareth Southgate, for letting him down, when he had shown great trust in me.
“Playing for England was one of the proudest moments in my life and I only have myself to blame for this huge mistake.
“I promise my family, the fans, Manchester United and England that this is a lesson I will learn from.”

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand defends Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood and says axed England duo need help not punishment

RIO FERDINAND says Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood need help not punishment for their England shame.
Foden and Greenwood were sent home in disgrace after breaking strict Covid-19 rules by organising a secret hotel rendezvous with two Icelandic women while on international duty.

    3

Rio Ferdinand believes Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood need guidance and support rather than punishment

Boss Gareth Southgate will speak to the pair about their behaviour amid calls for him to axe the duo from his next squad as a way of making them pay for their crime.
But Ferdinand, himself dropped from an England squad as a teenager after drink-driving, claims the teenage pair need guidance and support rather than hauling over the coals.
He said: “You can’t sit here and cane them and hammer them and say they’re out of order and should be banned for five squads. Help them, help them understand.
“All these people that are on social media, pundits or people in the media saying that they should be punished and this and that – no, help them, help educate them.”

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand added: “If I look at myself as a young kid when I came into the game, 17 or 18-years-old in and around the first team, understanding your responsibilities is very difficult so I can really sympathise with the likes of Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood.
“I made many mistakes growing up and you don’t understand you’re in the spotlight, and you’re sitting there looking across the table sometimes at your mates and thinking ‘they’re the same age as me, they’re doing worse than me’.

    3

    3

She was joined by her cousin Lara Clausen in sneaking into England’s Icelandic base
“But understand when you go with England, when you’re in these big teams the spotlight is on you and you have got to get that realisation ‘actually, I can’t do things like other players or other people at my age who aren’t in the spotlight or at my level’.
“What 18-year-old isn’t going to make a mistake, it’s just they are in the spotlight.

“That’s why I took up a mentoring role. Helping these young players, prepare them for this situation because I’ve been through that, I’ve seen it, I’ve made mistakes.
“I got banned from playing a game for making a mistake, also I was in a situation where I got into an argument and fracas with a security guard when I was on duty with England and it gets into the paper and into the public domain.
“Everyone is going ‘how, where, why etc?’ and you do feel like the world’s caving in on you and you are think ‘oh my God, everything’s on top of me’.
“It’s about learning from them mistakes.
“It’s not as serious as everyone is making out, or is making you feel. But importantly now, acknowledge the mistake you have made, hold your hands up yes, and now it’s about moving on and moving forward.

“And actually really understanding the responsibilities you have, whether you like it or not, you have bigger responsibilities than other 18-year-olds.
“Let’s not forget they are two of our most talented young kids coming through so, give them the support.
“We want the best players coming through, yes they’ve made mistakes so pick them up, dust them down and let’s go again.
“They’ve been put in the spotlight, they are on the front pages now as well as the back pages, early in their career. It’s important they have got the right people around them.”

Southgate says he would have sent Foden and Greenwood home from England duty in disgrace regardless of Covid-19 breaches More

Top 10 international goal scorers of all time with Cristiano Ronaldo just eight off top spot

CRISTIANO RONALDO reached 101 international goals last night which puts the Portuguese icon just eight off all-time top scorer Ali Daei.
The global superstar scored twice in Portugal’s 2-0 Nations League win over Sweden.

    4

The most prolific international goalscorers of all time
And he needs just nine more to become the highest international goalscorer of all time.
Iranian forward Daei bagged 109 in 149 games his country while Ronaldo has taken 164 games to reach his milestone.
And here SunSport reveals the top ten international goalscorers of all time.
    ALI DAEI – IRAN
    Goals: 109. Caps: 149.

The striker was most successful on the international stage but also played for Bayern Munich.
Scored his goals for Iran between 1993 and 2006.

    4

Ali Daei is the highest international goalscorer of all time

    CRISTIANO RONALDO – PORTUGAL
    Goals: 101. Caps: 165.
One of the greatest players of all time and looks set to surpass Daei’s record with ease.

If he does, the record is likely to stand for years given the lack of modern day stars anywhere near him in the list.

    4

Ronaldo scored twice vs Sweden to reach 101 international goals
FERENC PUSKAS – HUNGARY & SPAIN
    Goals: 84. Caps: 89.
Real Madrid icon was unstoppable for Hungary in the 1950s scoring 84 goals in 85 games.
He went on to play four times for Spain after gaining Spanish citizenship but failed to score.
    KUNISHIGE KAMAMOTO – JAPAN
    Goals: 80. Caps: 84.
Kamamoto played for Samurai Blue for 13 years between 1964 and 1977 and scored a staggering 80 goals in 84 games for his country in that time.
    GODFREY CHITALU – ZAMBIA
    Goals: 79. Caps: 108.
Chitalu is the most prolific African of all time scoring 79 from 108 games.
He tragically died along with his international team-mates during the 1993 Zambia air disaster.

    HUSSEIN SAEED – IRAQ
    Goals: 78. Caps: 137.
Nobody has scored more goals for Iraq than Saeed.
The one club man only turned out for Al-Talaba but featured for his country at the Mexico ’86 World Cup as well as the 1980, 84, and 88 Olympics.
    PELE – BRAZIL
    Goals: 77. Caps: 92.
Perhaps the best player ever to play football.
But although impressive, his 77 goals from 92 Brazil caps seems low.
However, far less internationals were played in Pele’s day which explains it.

    4

Pele is widely considered the greatest player of all time
    SANDOR KOCSIS – HUNGARY
    Goals: 75. Caps: 68.
Only player on the list with more goals than caps.
The ex-Barcelona man played alongside Puskas for Hungary in the 50s and scored his 75 goals in just eight years.
    BASHAR ABDULLAH – KUWAIT
    Goals: 75. Caps: 133.
The star striker burst onto the scene in the late 90s.
Spent his entire club career in the middle east and featured at three Asia Cups and the 2000 Sydney Olympics for his country.

    SUNIL CHHETRI – INDIA
    Goals: 72. Caps: 115.
No player has scored or played more for India in their football history.
Chhetri, 36, still plays for the Indian Super League side Bengaluru.

Cristiano Ronaldo says playing without fans like ‘going to the circus and not seeing clowns’ in bizarre analogy

CRISTIANO RONALDO claims “playing without fans is like going to the circus and not seeing clowns” – but it was no red woes day for the icon.
The Juventus frontman approached a world record by reaching 101 goals with a double for Portugal – then went from Swedes to flowers with another spectacular comparison.

    2

    2

And this is how Cristiano Ronaldo went to 101 as he slotted Portugal’s clincher in their Nations League clash in SwedenCredit: AFP or licensors
Having seen off ten-man Sweden 2-0, Ronaldo suggested games behind closed doors were “like going to the garden and not seeing flowers”.
Near-empty stadiums, meaning no adulation and feedback, are clearly no joke for the former Real Madrid and Manchester United superstar.
And apart from his flowery analogies, Ron reached an even higher gear of bizarreness when he revealed one of the things he most misses about crowds.

I like to be whistled because it gives me bites.

The 35-year-old said: “There is no need to regret… I like to be whistled because it gives me bites.

“But health comes first, if the WHO says that there are no conditions, that’s it. The most important thing is the human being.”
Ronaldo curled home a delicious free-kick and fired a fine second for Portugal as he closed on the highest-ever international tally of goals, 109 by Iran’s Ali Daei from 1993-2006.

He then posted on Instagram: “Huge pride…When I am told I can reach 100, I say it is not enough…”
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, Ron’s only serious rival for the title of world’s best player, is only staying at Barcelona reluctantly.

So with Ronaldo already being the quickest player to 50 Serie A goals, he could be set for the last laugh on the Argentinian at club level too.

Darren Fletcher says Cristiano Ronaldo became the player he is thanks to former Man Utd No2 Walter Smith More

    GREALISH SPEAKS

Grealish also made his debut this evening and shared his thoughts on his first game for English.

The Aston Villa forward said: “I was emotional coming on. Every child in England dreams of playing for England and I feel so privileged coming on, it’s a shame we couldn’t get the win but I want to thank Gareth for giving me the opportunity- I just hope it’s the first of many.

“It’s a brilliant moment for myself and my family, certainly one of the best days in my career so far.”

When pushed on his effort inside the box, as soon as he came on, Grealish added: “I’m a bit gutted to be honest, when I went on that little run during my first involvement I should have pulled the trigger.

“It’s different to Villa, as maybe I have more chemistry with my team-mates as I play with them more regularly.

“I tried to cross it when I could have pulled the trigger, but I didn’t want to seem too selfish.”

Watch Cristiano Ronaldo score stunning double vs Sweden to surpass 100 Portugal goals as he closes in on world record

CRISTIANO RONALDO reached a century of international goals in sensational style as Portugal beat Sweden in the Nations League.
The Portuguese superstar struck a stunning double to notch his 100th and 101st strikes for his country… and move within eight of a world record.

1⃣0⃣0⃣ UP! 🔥He’s been stuck on 99 since November, but finally Cristiano Ronaldo reaches a century of international goals – and in typically brilliant style! 🎖Watch #SWEPOR live on Sky Sports Football via the red button now! 🔴 pic.twitter.com/rz2BGp8Lfj
    — Sky Sports Football (@SkyFootball) September 8, 2020

Ronaldo, 35, was left stranded on 99 for an agonising ten months during football’s Covid-19 shutdown.
And it looked like he would have to wait even longer before reaching the landmark due to injury when he was ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Croatia.
The Juventus hitman was absent from training on Thursday with a toe injury and was subsequently left out of that 4-1 win.
That left him in a race against time to make tonight’s away trip to Sweden.

But the ex-Manchester United forward was passed fit and he ensured he marked the occasion by becoming a centurion.
And he did it in his usual stunning fashion.
After Swede Gustav Svensson was dismissed for a second yellow card on the stroke of half-time, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner strode up to slam a right-footed effort from the free-kick straight into the top corner.

And it got even better for the star on 72 minutes as he pulled the trigger again with an even more impressive strike from outside the box to double his team’s advantage and seal the 2-0 win.
Ronaldo’s first goal for his country came way back at Euro 2004 during a 2-1 group stage loss to eventual winners Greece.
And with his strike tonight being his first for Portugal in 2020, he has now scored an international goal in SEVENTEEN successive calendar years.

    🇵🇹 Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 100th international goal – has now scored for Portugal in 17 successive calendar years2004 72005 22006 62007 52008 12009 12010 32011 72012 52013 102014 52015 32016 132017 112018 62019 142020 1 pic.twitter.com/cbOpo3mGdM

He is now only the second man ever to achieve the feat of 100 goals for his country.
But he is still nine short of becoming the all-time top scorer at international level.
Iran’s legendary Ali Daei holds that accolade with an incredible 109 goals in 149 caps.

Darren Fletcher says Cristiano Ronaldo became the player he is thanks to former Man Utd No2 Walter Smith More

Kieran Trippier shows horror black eye vs Denmark after sickening clash of heads with England team-mate Danny Ings

POOR Kieran Trippier was patched up and out of position as England took a pasting on social media for toiling against Denmark.
The right-footed Atletico Madrid star was fielded at left-wing back despite a horrible black eye from a training-ground collision with squad-mate Danny Ings.

    — Darz 🇻🇨 (@_Darz94) September 8, 2020

And as the Three Lions struggled to impress in Copenhagen, many armchair fans focused on Trippier’s wince-inducing injury.
One said: “Tripper with the dirtiest black eye” – followed by three crying-with-laughter emojis.
But it was the ex-Spurs defender playing on the left of three centre-backs that stunned supporters even more.

This post typified such frustration: “@England being played off the park by Denmark ffs. What even is this lineup, entirely relying on TAA and Trippier for the creativity. I thought England had finally found some ball playing midfielders.”

Ings, who was again on the subs’ bench, had collided with Trippier on Monday in what should have been a simple speed-off-the-mark practice routine.
Instead they were both pole-axed, neither moving until receiving treatment.

I’m not even watching this England game. Tells you everything! Not enough hours in the day for me to hear Martin Tyler, trippier at left back and 3 at the back against Denmark! No thanks 👋

And judging by the reaction to a goalless first period against the Danes, many supporters at home were similarly motionless – falling asleep as the Three Lions plodded along with little flair.
But one fan revealed admitted he had taken preventive action.

He posted: “I’m not even watching this England game. Tells you everything! Not enough hours in the day for me to hear Martin Tyler, trippier at left back and 3 at the back against Denmark! No thanks.” More
