Ryan Garcia reveals he felt ‘BETRAYED’ after boxing legend and mentor Canelo Alvarez’s criticism of him

RYAN GARCIA has revealed that he was left feeling “betrayed” after boxing legend Canelo Alvarez gave an interview criticising him.Mexican superstar Canelo has publicly criticised Garcia’s training habits, after acting as a mentor to the 23-year-old while the pair trained at the same gym.

Speaking to SI.Com Garcia said: “I didn’t quite understand why he would say something like that, especially to the media, because he could have definitely taken me somewhere else and told me personally.
“So I was kind of confused on that. I kind of took it as disloyal because I would never do that to him.
“I would never speak on him in the gym on what I think he should be doing, or whatnot.
“We’re a team, we shouldn’t even speak any ill towards each other. I know I’ve never done that and I never will.”
Garcia, who is currently unbeaten in 21 fights with 18 knock-outs, was “shocked” by Canelo’s behaviour.
Garcia added: “He’s a great fighter, a great human being and I hope the best for him.
“But when he said that I felt betrayed like, ‘Really?’ like, O.K. And to be honest, I don’t think he really … he didn’t really want to show me the love I did.
“I don’t think so. Just based on other things. But it’s all good, man. I have a good heart, good intentions and I never wish bad on him.”

Since bursting onto the scene back in 2016, Garcia has gained massive attention from young fans
But no one is certain what prompted Canelo to blast his former protege, on more than one occasion.
Speaking to Complex Canelo said: “To me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 per cent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal.”
Garcia left Canelo’s gym back in February in order to “build his own brand and make it bigger” ahead of his boxing return.
Speaking to BoxingScene Garcia’s dad and co-trainer Henry said: “Ryan decided that it was time for him to have his own gym, where he’s not confined to a certain schedule and a certain day.”

Canelo is set to challenge Russian fighter Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light-heavyweight title on May 7 in Las Vegas.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn remains confident the fight will go ahead, despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As for Garcia he will fight Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9 in San Antonio, Texes.
Tagoe is a former IBO lightweight champion who, after losing his first fight back in 2004, won 32 fights in a row.

The 33-year-old has drafted in several big names to help him get ready for Whyte on his training camp.
Jarod Anderson and David Adeleye are both being used for sparring sessions with the 6ft 9in champ.
And he has also turned to Bakole, who is good friends with fierce rival Joshua.
Now a photo of the pair inside the ring and with gloves on has been shared from inside his Morecambe base.
Heavyweight contender Bakole has previously sparred both AJ and Oleksandr Usyk.
The Congolese powerhouse, 28, has tasted victory 17 times from his 18 pro bouts, 13 by knockout.
The only blotch on his record came against Michael Hunter in October 2018.
Bakole has been used by Joshua on several times with the pair even becoming good friends.

But it did not stop him from joining Usyk’s camp to help mimic AJ ahead of the Ukrainian’s victory of AJ last September.
Now Fury will be hoping that the fighter, who is of similar build to Whyte, can help him topple his fellow Englishman.
He was last in action a week prior to Usyk’s victory at Tottenham when he defeated Haruna Osumanu via first round KO. More

Tyson Fury doubles down on claim he will retire after Whyte and reveals dream to star in Netflix documentary and movie

Some have wondered whether the undefeated heavyweight is merely trying to drum up interest in the all-British bout.
But in an interview with BT Sport Fury has stuck to his guns, claiming he’ll have made all the cash that he could possibly need.
He told Carl Frampton: “The only thing I can gain is money.
“So after this fight I’ll have earned over £100million. If I can spend that, I don’t deserve any more, do I?

He then added that he’d like to do a film – with a star-studded cast.
Fury said: “I have been offered Hollywood movies plenty of times. But they will 100 per cent do a movie about me one day.
“The Rock plays me in the movie, my brother The Rock. It could either be me or The Rock who plays me in the movie.
“I want to retire on top, unbeaten heavyweight champion of the world. I want to do a Netflix documentary, a Hollywood movie, and be a good husband, father and son.
“Most of all I just want to be happy, and that’s probably the hardest thing.”
Should he call it quits, Fury will turn his back on a potential title unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk, as well as a battle with old foe Anthony Joshua.
As for his TV dreams, Fury has already starred in a behind the scenes ITV docu-series.
The 2020 production followed his comeback journey, with viewers getting an exclusive look at his victory over Tom Schwartz and controversial draw with Deontay Wilder.

TYSON FURY is hoping a record British crowd of over 100,000 people cram into Wembley to see him fight Dillian Whyte. The Gypsy King defends his WBC heavyweight title against his fellow Englishman at the home of football on Saturday 23 April.

Over 90,000 tickets have already been sold for the fight on April 23Credit: Rex
The fight will be Fury’s first in England since 2018 and the 6ft 9in star was buzzing when it was announced there was not a single seat left in the 90,000-seat arena after frantic buying on Wednesday.
An additional 5,000 went on sale yesterday and were quickly snapped up also.
Anthony Joshua’s 2017 win over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley was in front of 90,000 people, but Fury vs Whyte seems set to smash that figure.
Now Fury hopes that a few more will be squeezed in and that he can be part of history in his first bout on these shores for four years.
He told talkSPORT: “We had those great nights in Las Vegas, a lot of fans turned out for that.
“It’s down to me to come home and put on a big fight in the UK and give all the fans that travelled abroad, and ones who couldn’t travel, come and see me in the flesh and see the fight.

Evander Holyfield tells Tyson Fury he should ‘duck’ Oleksandr Usyk and makes prediction for Dillian Whyte fight

EVANDER HOLYFIELD has told Tyson Fury he should ‘duck’ Oleksandr Usyk after beating Dillian Whyte. The WBC heavyweight champion will defend his titles against the Body Snatcher at Wembley Stadium on April 23.

That is a fight that the former world title holder Holyfield expects Fury to win.
The Brit has announced that he plans to retire after his battle under the arch, but many believe he could still go after unifying the division against fellow champ Usyk, whose rematch with Anthony Joshua is now in doubt after Russia invaded Ukraine.
However, Holyfield thinks Fury should avoid battling the smaller Usyk.
Speaking exclusively to Sun Sport, Real Deal explained: “Well, this is what I know: Most little guys are always better than the big guys. A lot quicker and you’re very good with moving.
“What made me the fighter that I was is I was a lot smaller than most, so it was very easy for me to hit them and I was a lot quicker.
“I can see Usyk giving him problems. So, I think the smart thing to do is eliminate this ‘I’m bigger than him so this and the other’ because everybody knows that small guys fight better, more skillful and faster than big guys.

“Big guy’s got the power! If they catch you they can hurt you! But can Tyson Fury hurt him?
“And the thing is Tyson Fury is an OK puncher but he’s not a big puncher, and so him not being a big puncher he’s not going to be quicker than Usyk anyway.”
Holyfield continued: “The guy with faster hands will throw more punches.
“That is a guy to duck by saying ‘Oh I’m a bigger guy I’m not going to fight him.’
“You’re the biggest guy and you fight a guy that is quicker but smaller, but most small guys are a lot better fighters too than big guys.”
When pressed for a prediction for Fury’s showdown with Whyte, Holyfield had no doubts that it will be the unbeaten Gypsy King that gets his hand raised.
He said: “It should be a very entertaining fight. Both really want to fight, I think – Dillian Whyte really wants to fight. I think it’s going to be a great fight.
“I think Dillian’s got the energy to give him problems, but I think Tyson Fury is clever. He is just a clever fighter and I don’t think Whyte can beat him.
“What Whyte does have is he’s similar age, and anytime people take chances you can’t really rule your chance of winning.
“Even though Tyson Fury is a clever boxer and proved to do the right things, all the years that I fought I realised that who is willing to do anything stands a chance. So, that would make this fight different.
“You can say, ‘Tyson Fury is a better boxer’ but when you have a guy that is self-motivated and takes chances then anytime a person takes chances the person has just as great chances to win than who thinks the guy is just going to let them win.” More

Dillian Whyte still fears Tyson Fury fight won’t go ahead… and is REFUSING to show for Wembley press conference today

DILLIAN WHYTE won’t attend today’s last-minute ticket launch press conference with WBC champ Tyson Fury – claiming he did not receive a proper invite. The 33-year-old interim champ will not break from his gruelling Portugal training camp to visit Wembley, where the April 23 showdown will take place.

And his lawyer has claimed his big-fight silence is in response to his treatment from rival promoter Frank Warren who won the £30million purse bid and right to hold the fight.
Lawyer and business adviser, Jeffrey Benz told SunSport: “Dillian Whyte would have been more than happy to attend the ticket launch event but was not able to reach agreement with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions on even his very basic requirements which are normal in the sport of boxing.
“But they didn’t even given us notice of where and when this one-sided shindig will occur. It really is incredible.
“We are dealing with dinosaurs here. They bid $41m for a fight but are all over the place. They haven’t even met Dillian’s basic requirements which are entirely usual and nothing out of the ordinary.”
Team Whyte advisor Benz laid out the list of alleged reasons their Sky Sports PPV star will not pose for photos or play ball.
The Los Angeles-based 53-year-old claimed: “Dillian has been given no guarantee or escrow that he will actually get paid for fighting.

“Queensberry haven’t offered him a complimentary ticket allocation as is standard – not even a single ticket for his mother – or any opportunity to buy any for his family, friends or extended team
“They won’t advise on whether and to what extent Fury is subject to anti-doping testing by UKAD or other bodies in the same way that Dillian is regularly tested by both UKAD and VADA.
“They have so far failed to commence enhanced VADA testing as Dillian requested in the signed contract over a week ago.
“They used artwork with a photo of Dillian and didn’t seek his consent or even feature him accurately with his WBC world championship belt.
“And, bizarrely, they won’t even tell him the size of the ring that he will be competing in.”
Queensbury Promotions have denied a number of the claims made by Whyte’s representative.
The promotion is missing out on the huge boost Whyte would bring in view of his track record in big-fight build-ups.
The Brixton ace dragged Anthony Joshua into a thrilling 2015 battle with expert mind games and kept ice cool when Derek Chisora launched a table at his head.
Benz said the silent Body Snatcher even fears Fury will pull out of the fight, he said: “Dillian is chomping at the bit to fight Fury, even though he feels Fury doesn’t want to fight him and fears that he will pull out late in the day with a lame excuse like a broken fingernail or a nettle sting in view of his track record.

“Dillian is keen to fight in spite of the unlawfully low split afforded to him in the purse bid by the WBC, which he is appealing and which will ultimately be subject to a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the leading global arbitration body for sports related disputes based in Switzerland.
“Ask yourself, why is he going to interrupt his camp, and risk covid and travel complications, when he has been the number one challenger since 2017 and waited longer than anyone in the history of the sport for his full world title fight?
“With seven-and-a-half weeks to go, the fight is not a long way off now, so there is no need for Dillian to interrupt his camp for one or two days for a ticket launch event, especially when they have the self-proclaimed best heavyweight of all time Tyson Fury pushing the event.
“No doubt it sells out in seconds and that must be why they can’t even spare a single ticket for Dillian’s mum.
“But everything is becoming an obstacle, everything is a diversion tactic or a stumbling block, even the most basic things. There is so little trust and faith over so many matters, they are nickle-and-diming us on everything.
“Fans need to ask why they have put up this big purse but then are scrimping on making the ticket launch event a big success.
“Dillian is disappointed but he has not been dealt with professionally and people should be more concerned with the promoters taking this fight seriously and delivering a fan experience that the fee paying fans deserve.”
He added: “It is naiive of the promoters not to make real efforts to involve Dillian fully in the build-up.
“Dillian is obviously disappointed and will focus his energies on fight night.
“But if the promotion flops, I don’t want to hear any whinging from the Fury and Warren camps as they are over 21 and have been warned that you can only make so much noise clapping with just one hand.” More

Dillian Whyte in bitter row with Tyson Fury’s ‘dinosaur’ promoter Frank Warren as he refuses to attend fight launch

DILLIAN WHYTE is in a bitter row with Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren over today’s ticket launch press conference – with the challenger claiming he did not receive a proper invite.Whyte, 33, will not break from his gruelling Portugal training camp to be at today’s event at Wembley, where the April 23 showdown will take place.

He claims he has not received a proper invite to promote ticket sales for his fight with Tyson Fury
And his lawyer has claimed his big-fight silence is in response to his treatment from rival promoter Warren, who won the £30million purse bid and right to hold the fight.
But veteran promoter Warren has now hit back at the claims and insists Whyte was told about the event last week – and even offered a private jet to get there.
A statemement from his Queensberry Promotions read: “Tyson Fury will be at Wembley today, Dillian Whyte will not, despite being notified of the date last week and before the official announcement was made on Friday.
“Dillian has contractual obligations that include co-operation in respect of the promotion of the fight.
Wembley Stadium is set to host the heavyweight showdown on April 23Credit: PA:Empics Sport
“Dillian seems to have a raft of excuses for not turning up today, none of which hold water in circumstances where the parties have their rights and obligations defined by the contract Dillan has signed.
“For the record, Queensberry offered to fly Dillian and his team by private jet to London today so he could make the press conference, an offer they refused and that we were not obliged to make.
“We also offered to meet with his advisor to discuss matters including ticket requests, but it seems they’re more interested in influencing public opinion than fulfilling what we say are contractual obligations and giving fans the chance to see him and Tyson face off today.”
Whyte’s team deny this claim that they were offered the chance for talks – and say the offer was revoked at the last minute.
Team Whyte advisor Benz had earlier laid out the list of alleged reasons their Sky Sports PPV star will not pose for photos or play ball.

Queensbury Promotions are now missing out on the huge boost Whyte would bring in view of his track record in big-fight build-ups.
The Brixton ace dragged Anthony Joshua into a thrilling 2015 battle with expert mind games and kept ice cool when Derek Chisora launched a table at his head.
Benz said the silent Body Snatcher even fears Fury will pull out of the fight.
He added: “Dillian is chomping at the bit to fight Fury, even though he feels Fury doesn’t want to fight him and fears that he will pull out late in the day with a lame excuse like a broken fingernail or a nettle sting in view of his track record.
