CRISTIANO RONALDO has lost his blue tick after controversial Twitter owner Elon Musk’s outrageous purge, which has seen him “personally” pay for some celebrity’s verification badge. The social media platform erased all checkmarks from verified accounts on Thursday, which led to worldwide fear of misinformation being spread and impersonation.

Users who have refused to sign up to Musk’s unpopular subscription service, which charges $8 per month, have been stripped of their blue tick amid the businessman’s chaotic takeover.
Football superstar Ronaldo didn’t avoid the cull as he was stripped of his verification badge despite his 108.3million followers.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the highest earner in the history of sport as he bags a staggering £173million per year at Al-Nassr.
But that didn’t help his case as the Manchester United legend has become unverified alongside a number of other celebrities as well as journalists, academics and politicians.

However, some celebs managed to hold on to their ticks as Musk decided to pay for their subscriptions himself.
Among them is NBA legend and LA Lakers superstar LeBron James, whose profile remained intact.
The American entrepreneur took to Twitter to back a post from T(w)itter Daily News claiming that some famous people have been offered a “complimentary Twitter Blue subscription”.
The 51-year-old appeared to confirm that he has indeed covered those expenses.

Musk tweeted: “I’m paying for a few personally.”
However, the world’s richest person has a history of tongue-in-cheek tweets ever since purchasing the platform for $44billion (£35.5bn) in October.
Such as when he created a poll in December asking users to vote whether he should step down as head of Twitter.
Musk lost the vote by 57.5 per cent but still remains in charge even though he promised to abide by the result. More

Mount will keep other social channels open
In the post he revealed his reasoning behind the move, before telling fans how they can continue to support him and posting a heartfelt message to them.
He said: “Over the years I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with you all on Twitter. Sadly, the platform is changing so I have decided to delete my account.
“You all can still connect with me on my other social media platforms. Here: http://masonmount.Komi.io
    “Take care, Mason ✌🏻.”

Mount has struggled with injuries and form this season – and there is much speculation over his future.
The playmaker’s issues have only served to exacerbate Chelsea’s increasingly lame season.
Despite an outlay of £600million on transfers and a huge fee to bring in ex-boss Graham Potter, Chelsea find themselves down in 11th in the Premier League.
Indeed, so profound is their situation that Chelsea sit closer to the relegation zone than they do the top four, with a tough season run-in under interim boss Frank Lampard to go along with this.

Comments under Mount’s post were switched off. But quote tweets remained on to allow fans to share their thoughts.
One user said: “No matter what Mason thank you 💙.”
    A second typed: “Mase 💔.”
“Goodbye my king,” added a third.
However, some users believe Mount’s decision stems from abuse he has received from so-called fans online.
One user speculated: “Disappointing that it’s come to this, but I understand why he would. A real shame our own fanbase probably is a factor in this decision.”
Another said: “This is actually sad man you lot have abused him so much. He deserves better.”
While a third added: “Bullying your own player off Twitter is wild.”
Mount has 1.8million followers on his Twitter page and 5.6million on Instagram. More

Man Utd fans spot surprising detail on Mason Greenwood’s social media profiles as his career hangs in balance

MASON Greenwood’s social media profiles still say he is a Nike athlete – despite him being dropped by the global sports brand more than two months ago. Manchester United fans spotted the mistake on the footballer’s Twitter and Instagram accounts, which he hasn’t posted on since January 2022.
Charges against Mason Greenwood, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service

The forward, 21, stopped playing for the Red Devils last year when he was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.
Greenwood was cleared of any wrongdoing last month when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges, but his future with the club remains uncertain.
Nike also terminated its multimillion-pound boot deal with the sportsman, who cannot play but is getting his £75,000-a-week wage.
He was officially let go when he was first charged, but a spokesperson suggested Greenwood’s deal will not be renewed.

They said: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.”
However, he continues to publicly affiliate himself with the sportswear giant.
His Instagram, where he has 2.7 million followers, links to the official Nike football page, while he describes himself as a “Nike athlete” on Twitter, where he has 1.3 million.
Footie fans are demanding he “immediately” remove any mention of the brand.
    Most read in Football
One said: “Greenwood needs to take off ‘Nike athlete’ from his Twitter bio or I’ll stop using anything.”
Another wrote: “I see Greenwood still has Nike on his Twitter. Please remove immediately.”
The Sun has contacted Nike for comment.
Greenwood, who has a contract at Old Trafford until 2025, remains suspended, meaning he cannot train or play.
He had his first face-to-face meeting with Man Utd chiefs since his suspension on February 16, sparking rumours he may be gearing up to return.
The summit was his chance to give his account to the club of the circumstances around social media posts by a woman which led to his arrest last year.
A source said: “Only when the club has the full picture can they start to move things forward.”
His teammates are said to be hesitant about welcoming him back.
An insider said: “The players are open to him returning to the team but the scrutiny could be massively distracting.
“The dressing room is the happiest it has been for ages and no one wants to rock the boat.”
It could mean he seeks a career abroad, with some suggesting he is eyeing a move to China while others say AC Milan is making inquiries.
If Greenwood does leave United, his shirt number will be up for grabs – and one player is primed to take it.
The Express reports that Brazilian star Antony is in the running to inherit number 11.

Before his arrest, Greenwood was valued at around £50million and regarded as one of the hottest young talents in European football.
As well as being dropped by Nike, EA Sports removed Greenwood from its iconic FIFA video game.

Man Utd legend Gary Neville responds after Jeff Stelling takes cheeky dig about Salford fans

GARY NEVILLE hit back at Jeff Stelling after the Soccer Saturday presenter slammed Salford City’s attendance.Hartlepool fan Stelling, 68, watched his side lose 2-0 to Salford on Tuesday evening – a club co-owned by Neville and his ex-Manchester United team-mates David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.

The result leaves Hartlepool three points adrift of safety in League Two with three games remaining.
Meanwhile, Salford occupy the final spot in the play-offs, sitting above Mansfield on goal difference having played a game more.
But Stelling was quick to focus on the size of the crowd for the fixture.
The Peninsula Stadium welcomed 2,139 fans in for the game – several hundred of which were the away contingent.

And the Soccer Saturday host was quick to hit out at Salford for their attendance figure, citing Bradford’s regular 20,000 fans as a total that dwarfs the Greater Manchester-based club.
Speaking on Twitter, he said: “Did someone forget to tell fans of@SalfordCityFC there was a game? 2,139 – 500 of those from @Official_HUFC [Hartlepool United]!
“Some may say they are an artificially created club. After all@officialbantams [Bradford City] get 20000.
“And yes I know we will probably get relegated, but support your team ffs!”

Neville swiftly leapt to the defence of his club as he responded to Stelling.
He replied: “We’re quite proud to have got to a crowd of 2,139 from an average of 120 and 40 season ticket holders 7/8 years ago in the Evo-Stik North!
“Hope the head isn’t too woolly when you get up 🍺🍷😂.”
When one user suggested Hartlepool’s attendance isn’t much higher than Salford’s, Neville added: “Founded in 1908 and have crowds of 3,500.”
Another follower then intimated it will be awkward when Stelling sees Neville in the Sky offices.
To which the former Man Utd man said: “Thankfully I don’t 😂.”
Salford secured four promotions in five seasons between 2015 and 2019.
The 2022/23 campaign is their fourth successive term in League Two, with 11th, 8th and 10th-place finishes to date.
But they are now into the play-off places as they seek a spot in the third tier.

He also revealed his plans to auction the watch off to “raise funds for the less fortunate”.
Amir explained that some of the proceeds would be donated to addressing gun and knife crime in the UK.
As well as his thanks to the cops, he praised the British media for raising awareness about his case.
In the social media clip, Amir was filmed holding the watch and saying: “I’m going to give this to charity now.

“I’m going to auction it. I’m going to give it to the Amir Khan Foundation…to help needy people.”
The former world champ previously revealed that he feared his kids would “grow up without a dad” after he was targeted by gun-toting thugs in April last year.
He told Snaresbrook Crown Court that he was terrified as he stared down the barrel of a handgun while his wife, Faryal, sobbed beside him.
He said: “I remember the gun – a foot from my face. I remember looking right into the barrel there, looking into the gun barrel.”

CCTV showed two robbers exit a silver Mercedes, with one raising a gun towards Amir outside the Sahara Grill in Leyton, East London.
Gunman Dante Campbell, 20, and crony Ahmed Bana, 25, have admitted conspiracy to rob and possessing an imitation firearm.
Alleged spotters Nurul Amin, 25, and Ismail Mohamed, 24, were cleared of conspiracy to rob on Friday after a two-week trial.
Amir is now based in Dubai but returns to the UK for one week each month for charity and TV work.
Discussing the reasons for the move, he said: “The UK isn’t a safe place any more.
“It’s like living in Mexico. I don’t feel comfortable. I love England. I won a medal for the country but I stay in Dubai now because it’s the only place I feel safe. I’ve had my career, won my fights, got money. I just want to be safe.”
He also blasted London mayor Sadiq Khan, saying: “Since he has been in power, London has got so dangerous. He needs to pull his finger out and do something about it.”

Hilarious moment French football fans drop their pants to MOON rival penalty taker in bizarre attempt to put him off

ALL’S derrière in love and war… Ligue 1 fans dropped their pants to MOON at an opposition penalty taker in an attempt to put him off.
Angers fans didn’t bare to watch – they did it to try to unnerve Clermont’s second penalty-taker, Muhammed ChamCredit: AFP
It’s the Full Clermonty! The home side celebrate sealing their comeback victoryCredit: AFP
Perhaps they thought he was a crack shot.
But the plan back-fired as Clermont tucked away their second spot-kick of the game – as they came from behind (of course) to beat Angers 2-1.
Defeat left the visitors still BOTTOM and surely doomed to relegation as they are 17 points adrift with six games left.
Yet things were looking up when Adrien Hunou put Angers in front on 28 minutes.
    MORE TOP FOOTBALL STORIES
Grejohn Kyei, however, soon levelled with a penalty.
And when Clermont were awarded another spot-kick in the 39th minute they chose Muhammed Cham to take it.
That’s when Angers followers decided the butt stops with them to rescue the strugglers.
Their heroes might lack creativity on the pitch but in the words of one Twitter user responding to the buttock-baring image: “The supporters of Angers do not lack imagination to destabilise the opposing team.”

Unfortunately for those fans, however, Austria midfielder Cham stayed focused to tuck the kick home.
Credit to him, he then turned the other cheek rather than taunt Angers’ supporters.
Back out in the middle, Clermont amazingly finished their victory with only nine men.
Brazilian left-back Neto Borges picked up a straight red in first-half stoppage time.
And in the 96th minute Ghana central defender Alidu Seidu was dismissed for his second yellow card.
Luckily for the suffering Angers fans, their painful season is approaching the back end – albeit with a drop even more traumatic than the one they produced on Sunday. More
