A Posh statement read: “Peterborough United’s Sky Bet League One fixture with Port Vale has been postponed following a pitch inspection by match referee Adam Herczeg.
“After persistent unpredicted heavy rain throughout the afternoon and into the evening, the Weston Homes pitch has been deemed unplayable.
“The forecast for the evening does not show any sign of let up in terms of the rain. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.”
The postponement means new Port Vale boss Darren Moore will have to wait to take charge of his first game, which will now be away at Cheltenham on February 17.

EFL club bizarrely sign player TWICE in same window as fans say ‘my head is spinning’
Earlier today Port Vale, who are 21st in League One, announced the appointment of Moore, 49, on a five-and-a-half-year contract.
On his appointment, the former West Brom and Huddersfield boss said: “When speaking to Carol, Dave and the club’s board, it’s clear that Port Vale FC and I are perfectly aligned with our long-term aspirations both on and off the pitch.
“Our immediate aim is securing the club’s League One status between now and the end of this season whilst putting the foundations in place to create a clear footballing identity.
“The contract is a long-term commitment from both myself and Port Vale FC; it’s a testament to the long-term vision of the club and a vision that we as a collective from myself, the supporters, the club staff and the players are all striving towards.
“I am absolutely delighted to be here and I am thoroughly excited to get going.” More
