The boxer, 41, took to X to confirm the news.
He wrote: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for everyone for all those warm wishes I am receiving all day on my election as NOC Kazakhstan President.
“I am more than happy to represent my country in the global Olympic Movement.”

His last fight was a defeat at the end of his trilogy with Canelo Alvarez.
Triple G looked a shadow of his former self on the night.
In a further indication that he will leave boxing behind for good, he was ordered to defend his IBF middleweight title in February last year against Esquiva Falcao but opted to vacate his title rather than defend it.
The same thing happened when the WBA ordered him to defend his title against Erislandy Lara one month later.

That led to heavy speculation that the Kazaskhstani would announce his retirement soon.
But Eddie Hearn, who has promoted several Golovkin fights, insisted the boxer is not done yet though.
Epic Street-Fighter themed promo video for Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou released
Hearn told Boxing Scene: “I haven’t talked to him in much depth about his career. But the impression that I get is that he definitely wants to continue fighting.
“I think at 168, he was 160 for a long time. I think part of Gennady Golovkin is like ‘look, I don’t want to fight [Esquiva] Falcao, I don’t want to fight [Erislandy] Lara, so I don’t need the belts. My name carries enough value.'”
Golovkin also insisted prior to his defeat to Canelo that he would not retire regardless of the result.
The new Kazakhstan Olympic President said: “I would love to have a fight in my home country of Kazakhstan. You’ll see me in the ring (again), most likely I’ll continue.” More

Horror as Premier League star is threatened by troll who vowed to come to his house and kill him & his family

A PREMIER League star has revealed he was threatened by a troll who vowed to come to his house and kill him and his family.Neal Maupay, 27, scored a last-minute winner for Brighton & Hove Albion against Arsenal in June 2020.

The Frenchman, who is now on-loan at Brentford from Everton, also unintentionally injured goalkeeper Bernd Leno during the game.
He then received a tidal wave of threats on social media, the BBC reported.
“I got home and got a phone call from the club saying, listen, there’s a lot of stuff going on online,” he told the BBC Radio 4 podcast, Why Do You Hate Me?.
“We advise you to switch off your social media and deactivate your accounts if you want to.”

The striker got a message from an anonymous account which warned that his “loved ones would go through suffering”.
It also threatened to harm him and said: “Your family will be attacked later in the day just watch.”
Maupay recalled: “It was very disturbing. I called the club and I said, we need to do something, because what if that guy is really coming to my house?”
He blocked the account, but the person created another profile.

The next message read: “You think by reporting my account you’re safe? I will kill you and your family.”
Tim Cooper, who leads the Premier League troll-busting unit, said: “We don’t often see repeat infringers – the same person sending the same messages.
“We often see it as one outburst, rather than a real spiral of abuse aimed at one particular individual.
“So it’s quite a unique case with Maupay where it was one user and then a follow up.”
Maupay was one of the first players to refer abuse to Cooper’s team.
“I had to do it because I wanted to make sure we were reporting these people and trying to get them punished for it,” he said.
“I think it’s my responsibility as a person and as a football player to report it and try to change it. I think to ignore it is not the solution.”
Cooper’s team were able to trace the comments to a 19-year-old based in Singapore, Derek Ng De Ren.
Ng was an Arsenal fan and blamed his team’s loss on Maupay injuring Leno.
The teenager was eventually handed a nine-month probation order.

A LEAGUE of Ireland club has deleted and apologised for a controversial social media post of a player holding a stop sign featuring the song Murder On The Dancefloor. It had been pointed out the man had been convicted of killing a dad-of-two in a car crash.
Galway United’s Instagram post image was accompanied by the Sophie Ellis-Bextor hit Murder On The Dancefloor

Tragic Andrezej Obalek died in the crash
The Instagram post by Galway United to promote a Premier Division clash against St Patrick’s Athletic tomorrow showed Ed McCarthy, 22, holding up the traffic sign.
The image was accompanied by the Sophie Ellis-Bextor hit Murder On The Dancefloor and a golf club that is used to tee off and hit a ball long distances, which is known as a driver.
The Moyross, Co Limerick native was 19 when he was given a two-year suspended sentence and a seven-year driving ban in November 2020 after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Andrezej Obalek, 55.
McCarthy was driving home from a training session with Cork City on February 18 that year at Ballybeg, Buttevant, Co Cork on the main Cork-Limerick road at around 10.40pm and was speeding through bends.

He lost control of his car and crossed over the divide to the wrong side of the road, hitting the Polish national’s car and causing him to hit a ditch and die instantly.
McCarthy also hit another car that was following behind Mr Obalek’s vehicle and that driver suffered minor injuries.
He told a court he “never meant harm to anyone” and “never set out to do anything like that to anyone”.
During the trial, Judge Sean O’Donnabhain at Cork Circuit Criminal Court read a victim impact statement by Obalek’s sister, Urszula Obalek-Owstrowska.

It said: “Andrezej’s death caused a great gap in my life that I cannot fill with anything. I am still waiting for his calls, text messages, full of optimism.
“You robbed me of this forever. I believe that the greatest punishment for you will be living with the knowledge that you have killed a great man.”
The judge then addressed the court saying: “I hope the victim impact statement by Mr Obalek’s sister is burned into his brain and he never forgets it.
“It is a belief that she has expressed to bring out the hurt that she has felt over the loss of her brother.”
After it was posted, social media users were quick to point out the problems surrounding the image.
In a post about the picture on Reddit, one user said: “Wow, not a good look at all.”
Another added: “That golf club is a driver as well. Just jaw-droppingly offensive.”
On X, one user said: “What would possess someone to think that was a good idea?”
    ‘Tasteless’
Another described it as “horrible” and “tasteless, from both club and player”.
The post on Instagram has since been deleted.
Today, Galway United said it had meant no offence and wanted to “unreservedly apologise”.
A statement on the club’s website read: “Galway United wish to advise that there was no offence intended by a recent social media post issued by the club and would like to unreservedly apologise for any hurt or distress that the post may have caused.”
    New contract
Right-sided defender or midfielder McCarthy signed for Galway United in February 2022.
McCarthy, who previously played for Cork City, Treaty United and Regional United, signed a new contract at Galway United last month.
He had been named in the 2023 Professional Footballers Association Ireland First Division Team of the Year.
