Fans joke The Simpsons predicted England and USA’s woeful 0-0 World Cup 2022 draw years ago

FANS have taken to Twitter to joke that The Simpsons predicted England’s drab draw with the USA years ago.The Three Lions were outclassed by their American counterparts in a dull stalemate in their second World Cup Group B match.

Fans are convinced that The Simpsons predicted the dull draw back in 1997

Even the Wags were yawning during the game as the toothless Three Lions failed to mount any serious threat to the Americans.
That result left England still top of the group on four points, one ahead of second-placed Iran.
The USA, who take on Iran on Tuesday, are third on two points after consecutive draws.
And Wales, who England face in their final Group B match, are bottom on one point.

That means the Three Lions will qualify for the knockouts if they avoid a 4-0 defeat to the Welsh.
However, virtually guaranteeing a place in the knockouts failed to stop fans from blasting the performance in the bore draw.
Now many are convinced the hit American TV The Simpsons has actually spookily predicted the future again.
In a March 2014 episode titled “You Don’t Have To Live Like A Referee,” The Simpsons accurately foretold that it would be Germany lifting the World Cup that summer.

That followed on from a number of other predictions that eventually came true – including Donald Trump becoming US president.
And now many believe that the 1997 episode “The Cartridge Family” may have set the stage for tonight’s England stalemate.
Homer Simpson, wife Marge and kids Bart and Lisa watched a TV ad for a match that will determine “which is the greatest nation on Earth” – but just seconds into the action the former is heard screaming “boring”.
And that clip quickly resurfaced after full-time tonight in Qatar, with one tweeting: “The Simpsons predicted this.”
Another tweeted: “I was literally thinking about this as I was watching.”

A fellow fan commented: “England and USA literally mimicked the Simpsons episode where they made fun of soccer. Hyped up to max, and delivering a boring game.”
While another wrote: “Holy s***, The Simpsons predicted England vs USA.” More

In a clip posted to his Twitter page, Lycett threw two large bundles of £5 notes into a woodchipper, leaving a shredded bundle of money on the floor before walking away.
Openly pansexual Lycett gave England legend Beckham, 47, an ultimatum last Sunday, telling the star, who he called a “gay icon”: “Qatar was voted one of the worst places in the world to be gay.
“If you end your relationship with Qatar, I’ll donate this £10,000 of my own money.
“However if you do not, at midday next Sunday I will throw this money into a shredder, just before the opening ceremony of the World Cup.”

Beckham made his first public appearance at the controversial tournament on Saturday ahead of yesterday’s opening ceremony and first match.
On Saturday FIFA chief Gianni Infantino defended Qatar’s human rights record in a bizarre rant, with the Swiss accusing Western nations of “hypocrisy” and “racism”.
Some online slammed the comedian – and said he should have donated the money to charity.
Former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said: “Shredding £10k will earn Joe Lycett far more than it will cost him and is in effect a paid-for publicity stunt which has worked.”

One former fan said the stunt had changed his view of the comic, saying on Twitter: “I liked Joe Lycett but he’s just shown what a privileged life he lives that he can afford to shred £10,000.”
But actor Chris Addison defended the comic, labelling Lycett: “A force for good”.

England World Cup stars to be shielded from trolls at World Cup by cutting-edge tech that blocks abuse from their phones

ENGLAND’S World Cup stars will be shielded from racist trolls at the competition by cutting-edge tech that blocks abuse from their phones.Football stars Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were left in tears when they were bombarded with hate after missing penalties at the Euro 2020 Final defeat against Italy.

But FIFA world football bosses have confirmed players will be protected by an incredible new “Threat Matrix” troll-blocking system at Qatar 2022.
Boffins have perfected an artificial intelligence programme which scans millions of online messages and identifies abusive words and emojis.
Offensive messages will remain visible on favoured troll haunts like Twitter and Instagram and will not be erased from the web.
But the incredible technology will act as a filter built into players phones – making sick jibes invisible to stars before they turn on the mobiles after games.

The matrix system is also designed to flag up the IP addresses used by trolls to enable police to track them down and take action if the law if broken.
Unveiling the groundbreaking cyber shield, a FIFA report said: “Our game-changing technology protects players and athletes from vile online racist and discriminatory abuse.
“Our focus is on moving the current reactive reporting process  -requiring a player to receive and report abuse – to a proactive response with earlier interventions to protect players.
“Threat Matrix provides real-time monitoring and analysis of millions of open source social media posts across multiple platforms.

“With a lead focus on Twitter and Instagram – historically the most problematic platforms for online abuse – the service has developed capabilities that include recognition of images, emojis, as well as keywords, phrases and a long list of abusive words, terms and profanities.
“The service flags the vilest social media posts and provides evidence for removal to social platforms, building compelling evidential cases to take to relevant authorities.”
Police arrested 11 people over the barrage of bigotry online after England’s penalties heartbreak at Wembley in July last year – with two receiving jail terms.
Saka, 19, had not long been on the pitch when the game went to a penalty shootout with the score at 1-1.
Within minutes of his shot being saved the England winger’s Instagram account was flooded with monkey emojis.
Other Three Lions fans rallied to support the teenager, promising to get the offensive comments reported and removed.
MPs and the FA blasted Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for failing to crack down on the culprits.
But little has been done to drive haters off platforms since.
    Read More on The Sun
The FA said at the time it was “appalled by the online racism” aimed at some players on social media.
A spokesman added: “Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse.” More

Prince William reveals who he is supporting during the World Cup – and it’s dividing opinion

PRINCE William has revealed who he is supporting during the World Cup – and it is already proving to be controversial.William has been President of the English FA since 2006 but Prince of Wales since September.

Actor Michael Sheen has hit out at Wills, saying it was ‘inappropriate’ for the prince to back England while holding the title of Prince of WalesCredit: PA
He has joked he is supporting both England and Wales in their World Cup 2022 campaigns.
Not everyone is happy with his decision to back England, with Welsh actor Michael Sheen calling the Prince of Wales’s support for England in the Qatar World Cup as “entirely inappropriate”.
Sheen said his backing showed a complete lack of sensitivity after he gave Cymru’s World Cup rivals a special send-off before the tournament.
Prince William told the Three Lions squad: “The rest of the country is behind you, we are all rooting for you. Enjoy it.”

Both sides play each other in the group stages on November 29.
And while his backing, as President of the FA in England, may be understandable to some, it has caused anger in Wales.
Sheen said that the heir to the throne should be embarrassed for backing England at the same time as holding the title of Prince of Wales.
Sheen tweeted: “He (Prince William) can, of course, support whoever he likes and as President of the FA his role makes visit understandable – but surely he sees holding the title Prince of Wales at the same time is entirely inappropriate? Not a shred of embarrassment? Or sensitivity to the problem here?”
    Most read in Football
Many supporters were in total agreement with Sheen’s comments.
One tweeted: “He’s English, he can support England. In fact, he can support whoever he wants. But that title is objectionable – it implies national subjugation, it must end. He’s ‘Prince of Wales’ by dint of his dad giving him the title. It means literally nothing else, end it.”
A second said: “William is English and should proudly support England. No problem or bitterness with it. I don’t need him supporting Wales out of duty. Let’s drop the farce and pretence of title of Prince of Wales and allow William to be himself.”
While another added: “I have to say I agree. I’m a fan of his but he can’t be tone-deaf in his new role. If he is Prince of Wales he can’t be parading around supporting a rival at world stage competition. It’s embarrassing.”
    Not everyone agreed, however.
    CONTROVERSIAL DECISION
One fan said: “He is the president of the English FA, of course he is going to support England. His title as Prince of Wales has nothing to do with it.”
William addressed criticism of his support for England’s football team as Prince of Wales on his first visit to the Senedd in Cardiff, today.
The future King tackled the subject head on during a light-hearted chat with the Llywydd Elin Jones during a tour of the Siambr.
The Presiding Officer showed the Prince her Wales football bucket hat, which she had on her seat inside the chamber and said: “They play each other in a few weeks time. I won’t ask you!”
    ‘I’M SUPPORTING BOTH’
But he replied: “No, it’s ok, I’m telling everyone I’m supporting both, definitely. I can’t lose.
“I’ve supported England since I’ve been quite small. But I support Welsh rugby and that’s my way of doing it.
“I happily support Wales over England in the rugby so I’ve got to be able to play carefully with my affiliations.
“I worry otherwise if I suddenly drop England to support Wales then that doesn’t look right for the sport either. So I can’t do that.”
He added: “An England v Wales World Cup final would be the best, that would be pretty good.”
He went on: “I’m making sure I’m out there supporting Wales through all the process because I know it’s a big deal for Wales. When I was growing up, Wales weren’t getting through to the tournaments, so I had to make a choice.”
The Llywydd told William: “I’m much older than you and when I was growing up Wales weren’t getting through to the tournaments. There had been some horrible results.”
An England v Wales World Cup final would be the best, that would be pretty goodPrince William
Wills asked: “1958, I believe was the last one? So it’s a big deal.”
“It’s a huge deal,” she replied.
Ms Jones, a football fan, said she would not be going because the World Cup is taking place in Qatar, adding: “It’s tragic that it is in Qatar, but the First Minister is going out and that’s going to be absolutely fine for him to go out, in my view.
“But it’s confused.. we have this great huge happiness about it but then it’s a shame it’s in Qatar and a lot more people could enjoy it.
“The Euros in 2016, they were glorious. I was there at the game when Wales beat Belgium 3-1 and that was absolutely fabulous.
“But we will have the Rugby World Cup in France next year, that will be a big deal,” said William.”

Lewis Hamilton slams ‘toxic’ social media and claims everyone should come off it for sake of their mental health

LEWIS HAMILTON has slammed “toxic” social media and urged people to come off it. The seven-times World Champion has never been afraid to give his view on things outside the track.

And while he continues to search for his first race win of the season after a frustrating tactical error left him high and dry in Mexico, Hamilton had an important message for his fans.
He urged people to put their mental health above social media and criticised “hurtful” comments that people leave.
He said: “Social media is getting more and more toxic as the years go on and I think we should all come off it ultimately.
“Mental health is such a prominent thing right now. So many people are reading the comments and the stuff people say, and it is hurtful.

“Fortunately, I don’t read the stuff but the media platforms need to do more to protect people, particularly young kids and women, but at the moment they are not doing that so I think this will just continue.”
His observation comes just days after he had his own social media run-in with former teammate Fernando Alonso.
The outspoken Spaniard suggested that Hamilton’s titles were of less value than Verstappens’ as the Brit only had to “fight [his] teammate.”
In response, Hamilton posted a picture on Twitter of himself on the top step of the US Grand Prix podium in 2007 looking down on his then-McLaren teammate Alonso.

F1 also finds itself at a particularly divisive time as old rows rear their heads and drivers being booed becoming an increasingly common sight.
