Man Utd legend Gary Neville responds after Jeff Stelling takes cheeky dig about Salford fans

GARY NEVILLE hit back at Jeff Stelling after the Soccer Saturday presenter slammed Salford City’s attendance.Hartlepool fan Stelling, 68, watched his side lose 2-0 to Salford on Tuesday evening – a club co-owned by Neville and his ex-Manchester United team-mates David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.

The result leaves Hartlepool three points adrift of safety in League Two with three games remaining.
Meanwhile, Salford occupy the final spot in the play-offs, sitting above Mansfield on goal difference having played a game more.
But Stelling was quick to focus on the size of the crowd for the fixture.
The Peninsula Stadium welcomed 2,139 fans in for the game – several hundred of which were the away contingent.

And the Soccer Saturday host was quick to hit out at Salford for their attendance figure, citing Bradford’s regular 20,000 fans as a total that dwarfs the Greater Manchester-based club.
Speaking on Twitter, he said: “Did someone forget to tell fans of@SalfordCityFC there was a game? 2,139 – 500 of those from @Official_HUFC [Hartlepool United]!
“Some may say they are an artificially created club. After all@officialbantams [Bradford City] get 20000.
“And yes I know we will probably get relegated, but support your team ffs!”

Neville swiftly leapt to the defence of his club as he responded to Stelling.
He replied: “We’re quite proud to have got to a crowd of 2,139 from an average of 120 and 40 season ticket holders 7/8 years ago in the Evo-Stik North!
“Hope the head isn’t too woolly when you get up 🍺🍷😂.”
When one user suggested Hartlepool’s attendance isn’t much higher than Salford’s, Neville added: “Founded in 1908 and have crowds of 3,500.”
Another follower then intimated it will be awkward when Stelling sees Neville in the Sky offices.
To which the former Man Utd man said: “Thankfully I don’t 😂.”
Salford secured four promotions in five seasons between 2015 and 2019.
The 2022/23 campaign is their fourth successive term in League Two, with 11th, 8th and 10th-place finishes to date.
But they are now into the play-off places as they seek a spot in the third tier.

Amir explained that some of the proceeds would be donated to addressing gun and knife crime in the UK.
As well as his thanks to the cops, he praised the British media for raising awareness about his case.
In the social media clip, Amir was filmed holding the watch and saying: “I’m going to give this to charity now.

“I’m going to auction it. I’m going to give it to the Amir Khan Foundation…to help needy people.”
The former world champ previously revealed that he feared his kids would “grow up without a dad” after he was targeted by gun-toting thugs in April last year.
He told Snaresbrook Crown Court that he was terrified as he stared down the barrel of a handgun while his wife, Faryal, sobbed beside him.
He said: “I remember the gun – a foot from my face. I remember looking right into the barrel there, looking into the gun barrel.”

CCTV showed two robbers exit a silver Mercedes, with one raising a gun towards Amir outside the Sahara Grill in Leyton, East London.
Gunman Dante Campbell, 20, and crony Ahmed Bana, 25, have admitted conspiracy to rob and possessing an imitation firearm.
Alleged spotters Nurul Amin, 25, and Ismail Mohamed, 24, were cleared of conspiracy to rob on Friday after a two-week trial.
Amir is now based in Dubai but returns to the UK for one week each month for charity and TV work.
Discussing the reasons for the move, he said: “The UK isn’t a safe place any more.
“It’s like living in Mexico. I don’t feel comfortable. I love England. I won a medal for the country but I stay in Dubai now because it’s the only place I feel safe. I’ve had my career, won my fights, got money. I just want to be safe.”
He also blasted London mayor Sadiq Khan, saying: “Since he has been in power, London has got so dangerous. He needs to pull his finger out and do something about it.”

Hilarious moment French football fans drop their pants to MOON rival penalty taker in bizarre attempt to put him off

ALL’S derrière in love and war… Ligue 1 fans dropped their pants to MOON at an opposition penalty taker in an attempt to put him off.
Angers fans didn’t bare to watch – they did it to try to unnerve Clermont’s second penalty-taker, Muhammed ChamCredit: AFP

Perhaps they thought he was a crack shot.
But the plan back-fired as Clermont tucked away their second spot-kick of the game – as they came from behind (of course) to beat Angers 2-1.
Defeat left the visitors still BOTTOM and surely doomed to relegation as they are 17 points adrift with six games left.
Yet things were looking up when Adrien Hunou put Angers in front on 28 minutes.
    MORE TOP FOOTBALL STORIES
Grejohn Kyei, however, soon levelled with a penalty.
And when Clermont were awarded another spot-kick in the 39th minute they chose Muhammed Cham to take it.
That’s when Angers followers decided the butt stops with them to rescue the strugglers.
Their heroes might lack creativity on the pitch but in the words of one Twitter user responding to the buttock-baring image: “The supporters of Angers do not lack imagination to destabilise the opposing team.”

Unfortunately for those fans, however, Austria midfielder Cham stayed focused to tuck the kick home.
Credit to him, he then turned the other cheek rather than taunt Angers’ supporters.
Back out in the middle, Clermont amazingly finished their victory with only nine men.
Brazilian left-back Neto Borges picked up a straight red in first-half stoppage time.
And in the 96th minute Ghana central defender Alidu Seidu was dismissed for his second yellow card.
Luckily for the suffering Angers fans, their painful season is approaching the back end – albeit with a drop even more traumatic than the one they produced on Sunday. More

One said: “That’s not a handball on Pulisic? He smacked the ball.”
A second typed: “Blatant handball by Pulisic inside the Chelsea box.”

Fortunately for Brighton, it made little difference as they came from behind to win 2-1 thanks to goals from super subs Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso.

It came following a mistake by VAR when they decided not to award a penalty when Karou Mitoma was brought down in the area by Pierre Emile Hojbjerg. More

Fans hail Man Utd supporter as picture of food in stands goes viral

FOOTBALL supporters have praised a Manchester United fan after he was spotted eating his dinner in the stands at Old Trafford. The image of a supporter enjoying his meal on a plate during what is understood to have been the Red Devils’ Europa League clash with Sevilla went viral on social media.

He appeared to be eating some chicken and chips, with a couple of pots of additional grub thrown in for good measure.
And those online showed their appreciation for the fan’s antics.
One said: “Incredible effort — this behaviour must be applauded.👏🏽”
Another jovially joked: “Good effort that. Managed to keep that plate in tact all the way from London.”

And a fourth responded: “Chicken dippers and mum’s homemade chips. F*****g love to see it 💥.”
While the Man Utd fan was supposedly tucking into his food, Erik ten Hag’s side raced into a two-goal lead after 21 minutes in their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla.
But things began to unravel for the Premier League giants at half-time when Raphael Varane was removed due to an injury.

Tyrell Malacia then turned into his own goal with six minutes remaining as the visitors reduced the deficit.
And Ten Hag lost his other centre-back moments later when Lisandro Martinez went down unchallenged with a metatarsal problem that has subsequently seen him ruled out for the rest of the season.
But as Man Utd had made their five changes, they were forced to play the end of the game with 10 men.
And Sevilla’s pressure told in stoppage-time when Youssef En-Nesyri’s header cannoned off Harry Maguire and into the back of the net.
Man Utd will now need to beat Sevilla in Spain next week to secure a spot in the Europa League semi-finals. More

‘Why is it the same colour as the bun?’ – Scottish Premiership club’s burger ranked ‘WORST scran’ in British football

WITH over half a million followers on Twitter, the Footy Scran account has become football fans’ go to to check out the best grub in the game and have their say.But it’s not all good and it turns out a Scottish Premiership club have the worst-ranked item to have been voted on by fans on the platform.
    A non-league English club’s burger is a Footy Scran favouriteCredit: TWITTER/FOOTY SCRAN
Footy Scran, which launched in 2020, does what it says on the tin – it posts pictures of food items from football matches across the UK and beyond.
Whether’s it English Premier League, Scottish Premiership, the National League or non-league, it’s all fair game.
Below the picture of item, fans are invited to deliver their verdict on it by picking ‘scran’ or ‘no scran.’
Researchers at BetVictor have done some digging, delving into EVERY ‘scran’ or ‘no scran’ poll that’s been done.

The most popular item to ever appear on the page is a double bacon cheeseburger at English non-league outfit Ashton Town, which received a whopping 96.71 per-cent ‘scran’ vote.
Katsu chicken and chips at Hull City and Beverley Town’s double smash cheeseburger with bacon also got over 95 per-cent positive votes.
Unfortunately for one Scottish Premiership side, the numbers don’t make quite so good reading.
It’s a burger from Aberdeen, coming in at a cost of £5, that has received the highest ‘no scran’ vote to date.

A huge 93.57 per-cent of voters weren’t at all impressed with the Dons’ offering when it was posted back in July last year.
Just 6.43 per-cent of fans voting said they’d eat the burger.
Fans can also comment on the items – and as West Ham found out when their chicken burger was branded “grim” – it isn’t always good reading.
The burger at Pittodrie didn’t escape fans’ ire either.
One commented: “Was it left over from last season? Should be ashamed for charging a fiver.”
A second blasted: “They could pay me that and I still wouldn’t eat it.”
A third said: “Has that been cooked on a radiator?”
While a fourth questioned: “Why is it the same colour as the bun?”
A burger at Doncaster Rovers and what is apparently a sausage roll at West Brom made up the top three ‘no scrans.’
The Footy Scran account also goes global – and a Hungarian team’s £2.60 meal deal was previously hailed as the “best deal in football” by impressed supporters.
Vasas FC’s chicken burger and pint of beer combo left fans drooling.

One fan summed it up by saying: “A pint alone for £2.60 is incredible as it is but food with it? Massive W.”
