Russell had been battling to overtake McLaren’s Lando Norris who was in second but pushed things too far on turn 10, clipping the wall before finding himself in the track’s barriers.
An exasperated Russell was heard shouting over the team radio after he ended up in the wall, saying: “Aaaah! No! No!”
Russell’s crash meant it was the second time in his last three races that he has failed to score a point.
The non-finish allowed team-mate Lewis Hamilton to scoop up third place instead.

There had been some controversy between the two during the race, with Hamilton forced off the track on the first corner after he said he “Got pushed wide by George”.
Later in the race Hamilton urged his team-mate to hurry up as he believed he had a pace advantage on the leading three drivers.
One fan on Twitter said: “If you ever needed evidence that Mercedes will take points off each other in a WDC fight… Hamilton wins that if Russell had let him go, he had so much more pace.”

The British driver clearly felt that he had enough to gain the lead from Carlos Sainz on the last laps and just pushed the car beyond its limits.
He said: “Yeah, no words to be honest. Such a long race, a physical race. Difficult to keep concentration. I think we were half a car’s length from winning the race had I got past Lando when I had the opportunity and I think we would have been able to get past Carlos.
“And then that last lap, a millimetre lapse in concentration and then game over. So just so sorry to the whole team and yeah.”
Fans reacted to the emotional interview on Twitter with one saying: “You can immediately see the sadness in his face he didnt deserve that crash.”
Another wrote: “How heartbreaking this is to hear from him.”
A third wrote: “I can tell he was crying just before this interview.”

Sancho and his manager have been in a war of words since the England star claimed he was being used as a scapegoat after ten Hag left him out of the matchday squad for United’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal.
According to The Athletic, Sancho was asked to apologise to ten Hag, but has refused to do so.
The refusal has led to the Manchester club taking disciplinary action after they released a statement saying he would be training away from the main group.
The short statement released by the club read: “Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue.”

Sancho had claimed ten Hag was using him as a scapegoat when the Dutch manager said the reason he was not picked for the Emirates Stadium clash was down to his performances in training.
The 23-year-old took to social media to have his say on the matter.
He wrote: “I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!

“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge.
“I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what.”
Sancho has since deleted the post from his social accounts but it would appear he is still upset over the situation and is refusing to apologise.
The tricky winger joined United in 2021 for an eye-watering £73m from Borussia Dortmund, but has failed to live up to his price tag.
The Red Devils were even said to open to selling Sancho to Saudi Arabia this summer before the transfer window closed.
But it is reported that he didn’t engage in talks and instead took a trip to New York for a break.

And some of the responses Neville received while controlling Scott’s phone were harrowing as they demonstrated the sexism on Twitter.

Another replied: “You should probably concentrate on the girl’s league.”
A third added: “You finally agreed to marry me?”

Yet another troll said: “Seems like your brain’s gone missing. Better leave football to the boys then luv.”
While another response read: “Save your opinions for what to make for dinner.”
Meanwhile, Scott, using Neville’s phone, got a reply saying: “The most objective opinion I’ve seen from you.”
Reacting to the experiment, Neville said: “The heated debates and rivalries are what makes football so exhilarating. But when negativity is linked to gender, this goes too far, especially from behind a screen.

“By putting myself in Jill’s shoes and seeing the reaction, I have seen first-hand the uglier side of this sport that I love and want to make it clear that football is for everyone.
“On the pitch and online, we should treat each other with respect no matter our gender, race, sexuality or what colour shirt we’re wearing.”
And Scott added: “Attitudes have definitely changed, but there’s no doubt that female fans, pundits and players still get a lot more online negativity than men due to gender bias. You develop a thick skin – but we shouldn’t have to.
“Some people have probably been left a little red-faced by this experiment but hopefully it’s reminded everyone of the need to kick gender bias out of the game for good.
“Anyone can be a fan of sport, regardless of gender and it’s time to remember this.” More

Gary Lineker reveals he apologised to England star Kyle Walker after ‘upsetting’ him on Twitter

He has gone on to become a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side, racking up 260 appearances across seven seasons.
In that time, he has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League.
Yet Lineker, 62, was not sold on the right-back when he was first signed by Man City six years ago – a stance he now regrets.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “I kind of upset him, I think, a little bit.

“I was a bit of a Spurs man [and] he left Spurs – can you remember what his price was now? 50, 60 million? I think it was £50m.
“Occasionally I get myself in trouble with tweets… and I tweeted something along the lines of ‘What a player, imagine how much they’d have had to pay if he could cross the ball’.
“I shouldn’t have done it really and I think it upset him a little bit.
“I hosted an event for Vincent Kompany’s charity and I went up to Kyle and said ‘I just want to say two things. One, you’re one hell of a player. And two, I shouldn’t have said that, I was out of order.”

When Micah Richards – who left Lineker stunned with his own story during the podcast – joked the ex-England striker had panicked and backed down, Lineker hilariously added: “I just felt I was wrong. I wasn’t scared… he couldn’t catch me anyway, could he?”
As well as his superb club form, Walker is also continuing to impress in an England shirt despite approaching his mid-30s.
He started the Three Lions’ games against Ukraine and Scotland during the international break, netting a first goal for his country in the 1-1 draw with Ukraine and assisting in the 3-1 win over the Scots.
He has now racked up 78 caps, the second-most of any English right-back in the country’s history behind Gary Neville – who made 85 appearances.
That is despite healthy competition for the spot, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Reece James all vying for the position in recent years. More
