It allowed his side to hold on to a vital 1-0 win, sparking jubilant scenes among players and fans alike at Old Trafford.
Argentine winger Garnacho later took to X, formerly Twitter, and posted a snap of the players celebrating with Onana following the penalty heroics – captioned with two gorilla emojis.
He swiftly edited and then deleted the post, but the FA has been alerted and are liaising with the 19-year-old as part of a probe into the matter.
There’s no suggestion of racism behind the message, but he may face a suspension if the FA adopt the same approach they have in the past.

However, Onana has now taken to his own social media to defend the teenager.
Over two Instagram stories, he said: “People cannot choose what I should be offended by.
“I know exactly what @garnacho7 meant: power and strength. This matter should go no further.”
The comments were shared by Garnacho on his own Instagram account.

But the FA is understood to have sought Garnacho’s observations on the original post.
Speaking about the post today, United manager Erik Ten Hag said: “We are talking with the FA. I can confirm that and want to emphasise we are together.
“We are United and you see that in the post of Andre Onana.”
It comes after Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani was suspended for three games for writing “Gracias Negrito” to a friend while playing for United in 2020 – after the footballing body found it a racial term.
Cavani asserted the message “was intended as an affectionate greeting to a friend” following an apology.
But he was slapped with a £100,000 fine and made to complete face-to-face education.
A year earlier, Manchester City’s Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva was handed a one-match ban and £50,000 fine after he posted an image of the popular Conguitos chocolate bar, which has long been accused of racist undertones.
The Sun has approached Manchester United for comment.

And the young Argentine posted a snap of himself and other United players celebrating Onana’s heroics on Twitter – including two gorilla emojis.
Despite swiftly editing then deleting the post, the FA were alerted to it and have since liaised with the 19-year-old winger to investigate the matter.
And while there is no suggestion of racism behind the message, it is likely the athlete will be hit with a suspension if the Football Association adopt the same approach they have in the past.
Previously, the FA has punished footballers over other controversial social media postings that were viewed as offensive – even if the meaning was unintended.

But Onana has since taken to social media to defend his young teammate.
Over two Instagram stories, he wrote: “People cannot choose what I should be offended by.
“I know exactly what @garnacho7 meant: power and strength.
“This matter should go no further.”

Garnacho has also shared Onana’s defence of him on his own Instagram.
In 2020, then-United striker Edinson Cavani was suspended for three games for writing “Gracias Negrito” to a friend – with an FA commission finding it a racial term.
The Uruguay striker asserted that the message “was intended as an affectionate greeting to a friend” following an apology.

The previous year, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva picked up a one-match ban and £50,000 fine for posting the image of the popular Conguitos chocolate bar, which has long been accused of racist undertones.
And while the swiftness of the post’s deletion and Garnacho’s youth will be factors taken into account, he may yet be made to pay for a moment’s unintentional foolishness.

The FA are aware of the post in question and have sought Garnacho’s observations on it.

Laura had taken to her page on X, formerly known as Twitter, following coverage of Premier League team Manchester United’s latest footballing clash.
As part of her on-screen duties for TNT Sports, Laura interviewed the Old Trafford side’s boss Erik Ten Hag after his side’s 1-0 victory over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.
Yet in a surprise turn of the events, the Red Devils’ gaffer grabbed the microphone and chatted to her instead.
As Laura tried to wrap up the chat Laura attempted to shake his hand – yet found he turned around to her co-hosts Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand instead, leaving her hand flapping in the air.

She remarked to the duo: “How weird was that? I didn’t know what to do with my hands with no microphone.”
After the clip was posted to X, one troll remarked: “I’ll give you something to do with your hands,” presumably referring to a sexual act.
Ex TalkRadio anchor Laura – who has long been subject to sexist comments – re-posted the sordid remark and swiped: “And will you provide the microscope too?”
The remark is thought to be a catty reference to the size of the troll’s manhood, and left her fans in hysterics.

Meanwhile, off-screen, Laura’s love life is blossoming.
Love Island star Adam and Laura were first linked to each other back in September when The Sun revealed that they had enjoyed a string of dates.
Recently, Adam spoke exclusively to The Sun on how he wooed Laura – even branding her “the one.”
Geordie lad Adam has now revealed how he wooed Laura through a series of flirty social media exchanges, before wining and dining her on an “undercover date”.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Adam said: “The first time we met – I’ll hold my hands up – I did DM her first and got a reply but then nothing ever happened.
“Then she called us out for basically leaving her on read.
“It’s hard to meet people, isn’t it? I’m from Newcastle and eventually we met up, and then went on a very undercover date, and obviously what comes out in the press, comes out in the press, but it’s not always the full story.”
He then told us at The Best Heroes Awards: “I would never get in a relationship with someone at least at one point [unless] I thought they were The One.”

Karim Benzema slammed by French politician for ‘spreading Hamas propaganda’ after blasting ‘unjust’ Israeli airstrikes

Benzema wrote: “All our prayers for the habitants of Gaza, once again victims of these unjust bombings that spare neither women nor children.”
But the 35-year-old, who is a devout Muslim from an Arab background, came under attack from French politicians on Tuesday night.
French MEP Nadine Morano was quick to criticise Benzema’s tweet, claiming that it exposed him as an enemy of Israel.
Speaking to CNews, Morano said: “Just by writing that, he is an agent of Hamas propaganda because Hamas has a strategy to physically destroy Israel, but also to destroy Israel through international public opinion.”

Morano is herself notorious in France for being a far-Right polemicist who regularly attacks Islam.
In 2016, former president Nicolas Sarkozy removed her from the party’s list for regional elections after she was openly Islamophobic on television.
She told French TV: “France is a Judeo-Christian country of white race, which is attracting foreigners.
“I want France to remain France. I don’t want France to become Muslim.”

Benzema made the transfer to Saudi Arabia over the summer.
When asked why, he said: “Because I’m Muslim and this is a Muslim country, and I have always wanted to live here.
“It’s different, it’s different to Europe. I’ve already been to Saudi Arabia and I feel good about it. Most importantly, it’s a Muslim country, it’s beloved and it’s beautiful.”
This comes as than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, the majority gunned down by Hamas militants who crossed from Gaza and attacked border communities.
Around 3,000 people are thought to have been killed in Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip since the war erupted on October 7.
500 are estimated to have been killed in an airstrike on a Gaza hospital yesterday.
Ghassan Abu Sittah, a doctor with the medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said: “Hospitals are not a target. This bloodshed must stop. Enough is enough.”
A spokesman for the Hamas-run health ministry said: “Hundreds of victims are still under the rubble. The hospital was housing hundreds of sick and wounded, and people forcibly displaced from their homes.”
The Sun has contacted for Benzema for comment.
