FORMULA ONE teams have been hit by travel chaos days before the Chinese Grand Prix after technical issues in Melbourne.Several teams including McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams have been hit by the problem, leaving them without their cars for the second race of the season, according to F1 insider Kym Illman.Teams have been hit by travel chaos before the Chinese Grand PrixCredit: SplashTeams affected include Williams, McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull and Aston MartinCredit: AFPWith the quick turnaround between the Australian and Chinese Grand Prix, teams would have expected car parts to arrive on Monday evening or Tuesday morning after being shipped out on Sunday. However, technical issues have delayed the arrival of some car parts.Illman reports the teams were told their parts would arrive at 10am on Wednesday morning, but have now been told they will not receive them until 4 or 5pm.This means that teams have seen around 30 hours of their preparation time to get the cars ready for the first session of the weekend wiped out.READ MORE IN F1The freight transport issues have also hit the sport’s tyre supplier, Pirelli. The FIA released a statement ahead of the weekend – which will see the season’s first Sprint Race – providing a one-time-only concession on the curfew of the fitting schedule of cars.It said: “Due to the logistical challenges for the official tyre supplier resulting from delays in freight arrival, specially the requirement to revise the fitting schedule for Wednesday, the following concessions will be made.”On the Wednesday, and for this event only, the curfew period will be reduced by a period of five and a half (5.5) hours for a maximum of six (6) operational personnel for the sole purpose of tyre preparations post tyre fitting from the tyre supplier.”Most read in MotorsportJOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUSIllman reports that members of the crew have been waiting around in hotels away from the track, effectively with the days off, as they wait for the parts to arrive.Delays in car parts arriving are not uncommon in F1 but, with a tight schedule to fit into, time is of the essence if the issue is not to impact heavily on the likes of Lando Norris or Max Verstappen.Behind the scenes in Australia GP paddock including F1 star Lewis Hamilton’s new Ferrari baseLewis Hamilton’s Ferrari team were not mentioned in the report but could have still seen parts delayed. Hamilton was set for a meeting with his engineer this week to better understand each other after the Brit had an X-rated blast down his radio following a Ferrari strategy blunder.Free Practice 1 for the race weekend will commence at 3:30am UK time on Friday.Sprint qualifying will then start at 7:30am.Saturday will see the Sprint Race start at 3am before qualifying for the feature race begins at 7am.The lights then go out for Sunday’s feature race at 7am.Norris took the chequered flag in Melbourne with Verstappen second and George Russell third as six cars crashed out of a chaotic wet race. Ismaila Sarr pays classy tribute to injured team-mate Jean-Philippe Mateta with goal celebration against Ipswich

THE EAGLES seemed more interested in a trip to ‘Marbs’ than a flight up the table as they made heavy work of breaching the Premier League’s third worst defence. With no competitive fixtures for three weeks, Oliver Glasner is taking his troops to Marbella on Monday for a warm weather training camp.Ismaila Sarr emulates Mateta’s celebration after grabbing the winnerCredit: ReutersThomas Tuchel watches on from the stands at Selhurst ParkCredit: GettyYet it looked like his in-form Palace players were already on the Spanish beaches as they struggled to get into gear against struggling Ipswich and find the Costa del Goal.Their blushes were only spared when Ismaila Sarr struck in the 82nd minute with his eighth goal in the League this season – paying tribute to injured team-mate Jean-Philippe Mateta in the process. This was meant to be the day that Eddie Nketiah stepped into the spotlight, with top scorer Mateta sidelined by the nasty facial injury he suffered against Millwall in the FA Cup.With Mateta linked by the French media with a £40million move to Manchester United in the summer, there was even more incentive for the 25-year-old to make his mark on his first Premier League start since November 2.READ MORE ON FOOTBALLManager Glasner is well aware that Nketiah has struggled since his £25million summer transfer from Arsenal, but he told his young striker not to feel any pressure, and that he had earned his chance. However, the tone was set from the second minute when Nketiah was released by a delicious pass from Adam Wharton. He delayed pulling the trigger and ended up seeing his shot blocked by goalkeeper Alex Palmer. The form book pointed to a win for Palace, who had won seven of their last nine games in all competitions and who were aiming to win four consecutive fixtures in all competitions for the first time since 2020.The omens were not great for third from bottom Ipswich, as The Eagles had not lost any of their last 18 Premier League home games against sides starting the day in the relegation zone for eight years. Most read in SportThis was a match in which Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys were desperate to close the gap on 17th-placed Wolves, but in the end, they couldn’t capitalise on a sluggish Palace performance and secure their first Premier League win in 2025.The Palace winner was rough luck on Palmer, who had dealt with whatever Palace could throw at him, but he was finally beaten when Sarr pounced on a loose ball and dinked it over the goalkeeper’s diving body and into the net.Palace were always going to miss Mateta, who has scored 12 times for Palace in 27 Premier League appearances this term – leading to Palace boss Oliver Glasner dubbing him the “best finisher” he’s worked with.Max Fosh tries SHREDDING yellow card after being booked by ex-Premier League ref in Sidemen vs YouTube All Stars clashMateta will at least be joining his team-mates on Monday for their visit to Spain, although he will train alone.Nketiah – on a run of two goals in his last two matches – was one of four changes to the Palace side, as Adam Wharton, Dean Henderson and Tyrick Mitchell returned.Ipswich came into the game with a stack of injuries and made three changes, with Luke Woolfenden, Kalvin Phillips and Julio Enciso all starting. It was a lively opening as after Nketiah’s miss, Ipswich broke down the left and when Leif Davis crossed it needed a good save from Dean Henderson to keep out Jaden Philogene’s effort at the far post. This was the first top-flight meeting between the sides at Selhurst Park since Palace’s 3-0 win in November 1994, and as the game settled, the hosts took control.Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts wipes out Jean-Philippe Mateta in the FA Cup last weekendCredit: ReutersJefferson Lerma fired just wide from 20 yards after 14 minutes, then Eberechi Eze saw a free kick well defended by the wall.Eze was denied again soon after when Jacob Greaves, who picked up an early booking for pulling back Sarr, made a vital lunge to block his shot from eight yards.Eze was guilty of trying to dribble the ball out of defence and when he lost out to Julio Enciso, Henderson again produced an important save.It was that man Eze in the thick of the action soon after the break, when his shot from the edge of the box took a deflection to loop beyond Palmer before bouncing off the post.Ipswich have scored only 26 goals in the top flight this season but they had their chances. As the hour mark came, Enciso’s tame shot from distance was followed with a goalmouth scramble that needed Sarr to hook the ball off the line.It was end to end, and Palmer made an acrobatic save to turn away another deflected Eze shot, before Daniel Munoz produced a poor finish by shooting at the goalkeeper’s legs rather than lifting the ball towards goal.READ MORE SUN STORIESBen Johnson headed over the bar for Ipswich when he might have taken more time and trouble, but it was not going to be Ipswich’s day.Just when you thought the visitors might snatch a point from their trip to South London, Sarr showed his team-mates who it should be done, keeping a calm head to finish beyond the advancing goalkeeper to give the home fans a mixture of joy and relief at finally getting over the line. The Tractor Boys are now five points from safetyCredit: Reuters More

Why Man Utd were forced into nightmare journey back from Fulham with miserable stars arriving in Manchester at 1.30am

Without his support for Dalot, Fulham may have created a goal down United’s right-hand side.Harry Maguire – 9A superb defensive display from the England star who has been one of United’s best players since Amorim took charge.Pulled off a brilliant header at the back post to deny Rodrigo Muniz a certain goal.Lisandro Martinez – 8Superb last-ditch tackle to prevent Emile Smith Rowe from shooting as he burst through on goal. His goal had a big slice of luck as it was deflected past Bernd Leno but credit to him for having the audacity to shoot.Noussair Mazraoui – 7Solid at the back and tried to get forward when he could. United looked more balance with him on the left and Dalot on the right, although the pair swapped at half-time.Manuel Ugarte – 6Showed some nice touches and was a bit of a menace in the middle – in a positive and negative sense. Kept a close eye on Smith Rowe and allowed him no time on the ball.Booked for a foul on Adama Traore and was taken off shortly afterwards with an injury.Bruno Fernandes – 5Not at his best. Barely saw the ball in the first half and was not very effective when he did get it.Amad Diallo – 6Looked bright on the ball and United’s only real outlet going forward. He worked tirelessly and pressed really well – his hard work paid off when he found the back of the net in stoppage time but his effort was chalked off.Alejandro Garnacho – 3Was cautious on the ball and ran into blind alleys too often. Final ball let him down on the rare occasion he did manage to beat a defender.Rasmus Hojlund – 4His hold up play is nowhere near good enough for this system or for a club like United. He was too gung-ho at times and his erratic nature meant linking up with Amad and Garnacho proved difficult.Hauled off before the hour mark which says it all about his performance.Subs:Leny Yoro (for De Ligt, 58mins) – 6A more assured display given his shaky start to life in the Premier League.Joshua Zirkzee (for Hojlund, 58mins) – 5Like Hojlund he had a difficult time holding the ball up but United improved with him on the pitch.Toby Collyer (for Ugarte, 76mins ) – 6Solid display again from the youngster who was often in the right position to clear, including one on the line to stop a Joachim Andersen header from going in.Kobbie Mainoo (for Garnacho, 80mins) – 6Provided energy in midfield and shored things up alongside Collyer.A brilliant one-two with Amad set up the winger to score before VAR ruled Amad offside.Tyrell Malacia (for Mazraoui, 80mins) – 6Brought on in an unfamiliar right wing-back role but did what was needed to see out the clean sheet. Gutted Everton fan spent 17 years saving for 10,000 mile trip for Merseyside derby before Storm Darragh KO’d match

AN Aussie Everton fan was left gutted after Storm Darragh ruined his “bucket list” dream of watching his favourite team. The Toffees were scheduled to host Liverpool for Saturday’s early kick-off at Goodison Park, but the extreme weather conditions led to a postponement.Everton fan Nathan Hamlin flew all the way from Australia to watch the Merseyside DerbyCredit: Sky NewsThe Merseyside Derby was postponed because of Storm DarraghCredit: AFPNathan Hamlin and his mum flew all the way from Perth for the 30-hour trip to Liverpool, which required a total of four stops, but found out two hours before the game that it was all for nought. Storm Darragh has caused disruption throughout the entire country as its 90mph winds caused power cuts, trees to be uprooted and events as well as travel to be cancelled. The game was postponed due to health and safety concern and Everton confirmed all tickets purchased for the original fixture will remain valid for the rearranged fixture. However, that may be of no help for Hamlin, 32, who waited at least 17 years to watch his favourite team in action up close and in person.Read More on FootballThis unfortunate development means he may have missed his last chance of ever seeing a Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park as the club moves to Bramley Moore Dock for next season.Hamlin told Sky News: “It’s very upsetting due to the fact my mother and I have flown about 30 hours in total.”Perth-Singapore, Singapore-London, London-Dublin, then Dublin all the way over to here.”It’s been a bucket list item that I’ve always wanted to cross off, and the fact that it’s the last opportunity that we’re going to get to have a Merseyside Derby at Goodison, that was the clinching reason why I came. Most read in FootballAsked if he’s ever watched Everton play in person before, Hamlin responded: “No, I’ve spent probably the last 17 plus years – I’m 32 now – as an Everton fan watching online, watching over [the] product in Australia.”To actually get to go to Goodison, to get to see a game in person was exactly why I came and it’s been very unfortunate.93mph Storm Darragh: Travel chaos, thousands without power and Merseyside Derby called off”I understand the weather – I totally get it. I’m a health and safety advisor, so I totally get the reason as to why you called it off.”It’s just upsetting to be coming this far and only finding out a couple of hours before that you can’t go to the game.”This comes after Everton captain Seamus Coleman made a touching gesture to another Aussie fan who blew “all his savings” on a flight to attend the last Goodison Merseyside derby.Mackenzie Kinsella, 15, had made the 10,000-mile 24-hour trip from Sydney to watch his beloved Blues face Liverpool. It was his “dream” to watch his Liverpool-born mum’s Toffees play against their red neighbours at the historic old ground before the switch to Bramley Moore Dock. However, after Storm Darragh forced safety officials to postpone the game, he will miss out unless it can be re-arranged to take place within the next week before he jets back Down Under.Coleman tries to make it upAfter news of his heartbreak spread following the postponement, Coleman attempted to make it up to Mackenzie by inviting him to be a VIP guest at their Finch Farm training ground. In a video message to the youngster, who is staying with an aunt in England, the Irish ace said: “Hi Mackenzie, it’s Seamus Coleman here. I just wanted to send you a video message today to say I know you’ll be so disappointed today.“I know how hard you saved up to travel from Australia for the Merseyside derby. I know you were looking forward to the experience of being at the last Merseyside derby at Goodison.“So I’m sure you’ll be very disappointed today. We all are, we were all looking forward to the game. But we’d love to see you down here at the training ground on Monday if that’s OK with you?“Hopefully you can see some of the lads and that will make up for the disappointment on Saturday. We can have a bit of a chat then. All the very best Mackenzie and take care.”Mackenzie’s mum Rita, an Everton diehard, admitted that she thought he had “no chance” of earning and saving enough cash to pay for the trip.Fan spent all his savingsBut he proved them wrong and after spending £1,400 he landed at John Lennon Airport in time to see his team thrash Wolves, who his father happens to support, 4-0 on Wednesday.Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside about her initial response to his derby dream just after Easter, Rita said: “You’ve got no chance mate. We’ve just come back from England and there’s no way I can save that money in the time we’ve got.“When we came back [after Easter], he said it was his dream to go to an Everton vs Liverpool game at Goodison Park.”READ MORE SUN STORIESMackenzie’s nan Jo had previously explained that the person who sits next to her son Michael had to work today, which resulted in his ticket being available.Rita added: “He saved up the money, used all his savings and said two weeks ago ‘I’d really like to go mum – will you let me go?’ I said, ‘I can’t stop you if you’ve got the money’. We’re very proud of him.”Everton captain Seamus Coleman invited another Aussie fan to trainingCredit: Getty More
