Newcastle have been priced out of moves for a number of targets meaning they are considering switching their attention to former player Toney.
Toney, 26, enjoyed a productive season with Brentford in the Premier League last term, with 12 goals and five assists to help the Bees secure survival in their first season in the top flight.
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch is looking to add another striker to his ranks at Elland Road with the American a fan of playing two strikers in his preferred formation and he sees Toney as someone who could work as a perfect partner for Patrick Bamford.

Toney was at Newcastle between 2015 and 2018 but only made two appearances for the club during his entire time there.
He spent most of his time loaned out to lower-league clubs, including Scunthorpe and Wigan.
It was only after the striker left for Peterborough permanently in 2018 did he really make his name, hitting 40 goals in 76 appearances.
He has bettered that record in his two years at Brentford with 43 goals in 78 appearances.
