Piers Morgan defends pal Cristiano Ronaldo and reveals Man Utd star turned down £115m Saudi Arabia transfer last summer

Ronaldo, 37, has come under heavy criticism in recent months for trying to force through a transfer exit from Old Trafford.
But after staying put in Manchester, he put his future at the club into question again by refusing to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham – then leaving the stadium before full-time.
After being banned and fined, SunSport revealed he has no allies left at the club and may not play in a United shirt ever again.
The Red Devils could be open to allowing Ronaldo to leave in January.

However, one of the doubts has been whether they could find a buyer after he failed to secure a summer switch.
But SunSport columnist Morgan refuted those suggestions – claiming Ronaldo had an offer from the Middle East, but rejected it.
He tweeted: “More lies leaked by United management to damage him…
“@Cristiano received an offer of 130m euros to play for one season in Saudi but turned it down.

“Ten Hag trying to lecture Cristiano on standards and values when he’s deliberately humiliating him… what a joke.
“One is the greatest footballer of all time and a champion in 4 countries… the other was a c**p player and as a manager, has barely won a conker fight outside of Holland.”
Earlier this week, he wrote: “I think the collective disrespect towards Cristiano from his manager and many Utd fans after all he’s done for your club, not least last season, is shameful. There’s my opinion.”
Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus were among the Champions League sides who decided not to pursue a transfer.
Meanwhile, Saudi club Al-Hilal claimed their mega-money move for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner only fell through because of a transfer ban.

Chelsea are being linked with a renewed swoop for Ronaldo in January.
However, should United take Gary Neville’s advice and rip up the No7’s contract early to get him out of the club, it would cost them £10m. More

According to Inter Live, the North Londoners could make a €50million (£43m) offer for the centre-back during the January transfer window.

However, Spurs could face competition as the 23-year-old is also being monitored by both Manchester United and Manchester City.
The Italian could be keen on a reunion with Conte as he recently praised him for helping him take his game to the next level.

Bastoni said: “It is as if I have made a qualitative leap.
“He is a driving force, a real motivator who makes specific requests to his players, trying to transfer a winning mentality.
“Of course, bad moments also happen, but the important thing is to know how to get up. I owe him so much.”
Bastoni has also been linked with Chelsea and could thus be subject to quite a heated bidding war.

Premier League teams consider him an interesting prospect as he will have one year remaining on his deal in June.
The defender joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017 and was immediately shipped back to Bergamo on loan before joining Parma on a temporary basis a year later.
But he finally got his big break at the San Siro under Conte and currently counts a total of three goals and 10 assists in 130 appearances. More

But his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, leading to uncertainty surrounding his future.
And Ten Hag is not being drawn on what their plans are for De Gea – who is on a huge £375,000 a week.
Speaking after the draw with Chelsea, the United boss said: “We didn’t make a decision on him but what I can say is that I am really happy with David de Gea as a keeper.
“His first two performances of the season were not his best performances but after you see he brings us a lot for the defensive department, gives stability.

“And, as a person, I like him, I can really cooperate with him really well but first we go to the winter and then we will talk about how deal with such situations.
“In this moment we only think about perfoming, we have a lot of games to go, so I don’t want to get that interfered by talks.
“We have to focus on football and performances, not on negotiating. That’s what we have to do now.”
De Gea has started all 13 of Man Utd’s games so far this season.

And SunSport understands the Bees and Cherries were among ten clubs with scouts running the rule over £5million-rated Yates.
West Brom and Watford were also in attendance at Bloomfield Road to watch the forward, who has two years left on his contract.
Yates’ brace took him alongside Norwich’s Josh Sargent, Oscar Estupinan of Hull and Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz at the top of the scoring charts.
Blackpool lie 18th in the table and, with several suitors interested, the EFL goal machine could be the subject of a January transfer window scramble.

With his contract expiring in 2024 Blackpool would understandably not want to lose him for nothing, meaning a January switch could be the most profitable move for them.
Yates moved to Blackpool in 2020 from Rotherham.
His 20 goals in his first season with Blackpool helped fire the club to promotion back into the second tier from League One.
Last season Yates managed just eight goals from 39 games, but Blackpool were able to secure safety with a 16th-place finish.

He has broken through into the team this season following injuries to first-choice pairing Lucas Verissimo and Joao Victor.
And he has impressed at the very top level, including in a pair of 1-1 draws with PSG in the Champions League.

They were originally interested in him during the summer, but are now preparing to return for the teenager once more.

He has a 100 million euro release clause, so a bid of around £90m would need to be made to prize him away from Benfica.
And there is no option of waiting for his contract to run down as his existing deal is not up until 2027.
Real Madrid, Manchester City, Napoli and Valencia are also reportedly interested in the defender – along with Man Utd.
But they are all thought to be put off by the huge release clause.

However, he is making a late run to be included in Fernando Santos’ final squad for the World Cup next month.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are keen to bolster their options in central defence.
Raphael Varane was forced off in tears during Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea as he faces time on the sidelines.
Lisandro Martinez is set to continue in the starting line-up, but Harry Maguire’s form remains very poor and he is also recovering from an injury.

ESPN report that Liverpool are also keeping tabs on De Jong and the three clubs could be set for a battle if the player decides he wants to leave Barca.
Chelsea have supposedly received a boost that he could be willing to reconsider his future at the Nou Camp.
And the Blues reportedly have a good relationship with the central midfielder’s agency HCM Sports Management.
The Catalan giants appear happy to sell him but De Jong chose to stay this season and even took a wage cut over the summer.

Liverpool have reportedly held discussions with his representatives as they are in the market for a central midfielder.

Now City are taking a keen interest – and the Kvaratskhelia has an affection for them because of Kinkladze, who is a cult figure for his unforgettable spell there in the 1990s.
The Georgian international, who can play anywhere across the front three, was a key man in Napoli’s 4-1 Champions League thrashing of Liverpool.
Kvaratskhelia, 21, was star of the show with Rubin Kazan, but Russia’s invasion of Ukraine allowed foreign players to suspend their contracts.
He spent four months back in his homeland with Dinamo Batumi last season before moving to Serie A as a £10million snip.

Despite signing him on a five-year contract, Napoli are desperate to give him an improved deal, so they can insert a £65m buy-out clause.
But Kvaratskhelia, who has hit seven goals already, has so far been reluctant to agree and wants to weigh up his options.
And City hope that if they do choose to firm up their interest, Kinkladze’s links with them will put them in pole position.
Kinky, as he was dubbed by fans, still keeps in touch with his old club and believes his fellow countryman has what it takes to thrive in England.
